Day One: Sunday, February 15 - Welcome to Stetson University's Kayaking and Cano...
Welcome to Stetson University's Kayaking and Canoeing program. We will have registration, get acquainted, dinner, and orientation.

Afternoon: WELCOME to Deerhaven Road Scholar. Registration and check-in from 3:30-5:00 PM in the Road Scholar Office. Each participant will receive and orientation folder and name tag.

Dinner: Served in dining area of main building

Evening: ORIENTATION: Information and schedules in the orientation packets will be discussed and all participants will be asked to share in a "get acquainted" activity.

Day Two: Monday, February 16 - Presentation and Hands-On: Florida's Springs and ...
Presentation and Hands-On: Florida's Springs and Streams; Kayak 101; Ocala National Forest Service.

Breakfast: Served in dining area of main building.

Morning: We start off with an introduction to birding because once we get on the water there will be numerous water birds and we want you to be aware of what to look for while you are going down the river.

Lunch: Picnic lunch at Deerhaven Confernce Center.

Afternoon: Travel to Blue Lake for a briefing by kayak instructor, on water practice and skill set assessment on three connecting lakes. Snacks in main building following practice.

Dinner: Served in dining area of main building.

Day Three: Tuesday, February 17 - Kayak/Canoe - Silver River to Silver Springs - 10...
Breakfast: Served in dining area of main building

Morning: Kayak/canoe down Silver Springs Run. Silver Springs is the site of one of the largest artesian spring formations in the world, producing nearly 550 million gallons of crystal-clear water daily. Silver Springs forms the headwaters of the Silver River, the largest tributary on the Ocklawaha River, a part of the St. Johns River system. The springs were designated a National Natural Landmark in 1971

Lunch: We will eat a picnic lunch on the shore of Silver Springs Run.

Afternoon: Kayaking/canoeing down the Silver Springs Run continues.

Dinner: Served in dining area of main building.

Evening: Evening Entertainment

Day Four: Wednesday, February 18 - Kayak/canoeing - Lake Norris
Breakfast: Served in dining area of main building.

Morning: Board bus to Lake Norris. Lake Norris is a spectacular dark water lake that supports an impressive number of ospreys and connects to Black Water Creek, a major tributary of the Wekiva River. The upland portion of the conservation area consists of improved pasture, scrub and a small amount of planted pine.

Lunch: We will eat a picnic lunch on the far shore of Lake Norris.

Afternoon: Lake Norris Run continued.

Dinner: Served in dining area of main building.

Evening: Evening entertainment

Day Five: Thursday, February 19 - Kayak/canoe - Ocklawaha River
Breakfast: Served in the dining area of main building

Morning: We will put in at Ocklawaha River, The river is a popular place to canoe, kayak and fish. The river forms the western boundary of the Ocala National Forest. Portions of the river remain mostly undisturbed by man. The natural landscapes and lush wildlife and growth of the outlying area are mostly hydric hammocks and flatwoods, with scrub pine ridges and sugar sandy soils. Wildlife is abundant, including wild turkey, white-tailed deer, and wading birds in this area.

Lunch: Lunch will be eaten on the bank about 3 miles down the stream.

Afternoon: Ocklawaha River Run continued.

Dinner: Served in dining area of main building.

Evening: Evening entertainment

Lodging: Deerhaven Retreat and Conference Center

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day Six: Friday, February 20 - Breakfast and farewell
