Day Two: Sunday, July 12 - Arrival in Rennes and transfer to Saint Malo
Morning: Arrivals at the Rennes airport and transfer to the program hotel in Dinard. This transfer is approximately 50 miles and will take about an hour.

Afternoon: Check in at your hotel and take the afternoon to unpack and to relax before orientation. We will gather in our private meeting room at 6:00 PM where the Group Leader will greet you with a warm welcome and introduce everyone. We will review the up-to-date daily schedule and any changes, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer any questions you may have. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Day Three: Monday, July 13 - Dinard and Dinan
Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Enjoy a morning walking tour of sT Malo led by your Study Leader.The town was originally built as a walled citadel guarding the mouth of the Rance river and was the home of pirates for centuries. With your expert guide visit the ramparts and the old town of Saint Malo, including Saint Vincent Cathedral, the burial place of Jacques Cartier. During an on-site lecture, learn about famous characters from Saint Malo: Surcouf, the Corsair; Jacques Cartier, who discovered Canada; and Chateaubriand, the French writer.

Lunch: On your own to explore local cuisine.

Afternoon: Depart by coach for a guided visit through the medieval town of Dinan. Later on, enjoy apple tasting at the Musée du Cidre in Pleudihen sur Rance.

Dinner: At a local restaurant.

Day Four: Tuesday, July 14 - Saint Malo
Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: This morning you will visit "Maison du Corsaire" (the privateer's house) where you will discover the hidden staircases, the stately panelled salons, the cellars used as a prison during the French Revolution, and the collection of weapons, chests, documents and coins from the early 18th century. Later, enjoy a performance of traditional Celtic music and dance.

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Enjoy some leisure time in Saint Malo .

Day Five: Wednesday, July 15 - Mont Saint Michel and Cancale
Note: At Mont Saint Michel, there is a walk of 0.56 mile from the bus car park to the shuttle (each way) and many flights of steep steps to climb, as well as dark and narrow passages in the Abbey. Bring a small flashlight and if needed, a collapsible, rubber-tipped walking stick or cane.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: The coach will depart for a field trip to Mont Saint Michel. Discover the Benedictine Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel, one of the most remarkable examples of medieval religious and military architecture. It was one of Christianity's most important pilgrimage sites from the 8th to the 18th century and is now a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. During an on-site lecture, learn about the unique character of Mont Saint-Michel's abbey and surrounding bay in an onsite lecture.

Lunch: At a local farm house inn featuring typical local Normandy specialties.

Afternoon: Visit Cancale, a typical fishing harbor, and then visit a marine farm. Discover the “savoir-faire” and maritime history of the region. On-Site Lecture: Learn about oyster breeding and the local tradition and taste them fresh from the sea. Afterwards, return to St Malo.

Day Six: Thursday, July 16 - Departure to Caen via Dol-de-Bretagne and Bayeux
Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Departure by coach to Dol-de-Bretagne and enjoy a lecture about Obelix and Asterix.

Lunch: At a creperie in Bayeux to learn about Breton tradition.

Afternoon: We will take a field trip to examine the Bayeux Tapestry, a lively description of the Middle Ages that describes the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The tapestry is nearly 230 feet long and depicts the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England concerning William, Duke of Normandy and Harold, Earl of Wessex, later King of England, culminating in the Battle of Hastings. The actual origins of the tapestry remain a mystery, but legend has it that William's wife Mathilda and her ladies-in-waiting embroidered it. Visit the museum using personal audio guide, and watch a film in English about the making of the Tapestry. Afterwards, board your coach and arrive in Caen, your home for the next three nights.

Day Seven: Friday, July 17 - Caen and WWII Landing Beaches
Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We will depart by coach to explore the landing sites of WWII in a very unique way using period vehicles. We will begin at Point du Hoc to learn about the preparation to D-Day and the bombing leading up to the troop arrivals. We will continue with a visit the landing beach at Omaha and through a lecture learn about how the beach head was taken with great sacrifice of U.S. troops. We will see and discuss many of the remaining gun positions that survive still today. We will leave Omaha Beach and pay our respects to the fallen soldiers at the U.S. WWII war cemetery where we will have a brief ceremony. The morning will end in Arromomanche to see the remnants of the artificial harbor built by the troops to unload the equipment that won the war for the allies.

Lunch: At Omaha Beach.

Afternoon: We will go on an excursion to sample the region's renowned apple brandy at the Château d'Englesqueville, where the first U.S. monument honoring WWII soldiers was built. The children will have apple juice to drink. Later this afternoon, the coach will depart to Caen.

Dinner: Dinner at a local restaurant

Day Eight: Saturday, July 18 - Caen and the Caen Memorial
Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Enjoy a journey on-board a little train for an overview of Caen.

Lunch: In Caen. You will receive money for lunch. Your challenge will be to read the menu and order in French. Try not to use your French dictionary or guidebook unless absolutely necessary. When the group reconvenes you will be able to brag about your proficiency and perhaps chuckle over some of your unavoidable blunders!

Afternoon: Depart by coach to the Caen Memorial. We will watch a movie on D-Day. An on-site lecture will discuss World War II and the American allies. Adults will go through the memorial with audioguides.

Dinner: On your own to sample local cuisine.

Day Nine: Sunday, July 19 - Rouen / Giverny / Paris
Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We will check out of the hotel and depart by coach to Rouen. We will take a field trip on foot in the city of Rouen, the historic capital of Normandy. Here you will visit Notre Dame de Rouen Cathedral (painted by Monet), the flamboyant gothic church of Saint Maclou, the old market square where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake, and the charming cobbled streets of the Middle Ages.

Lunch: On your own to explore local cuisine.

Afternoon: Continue on by coach to Giverny. Field Trip: visit Claude Monet's house and gardens. The house is pink stucco, just like when Claude Monet lived there (1883-1926). The gardens are a rectangular “Clos Normand” offering, from spring to autumn, a palette of varying colors of the painter-gardener who was ecstatic about flowers. Walk through a tunnel to the site of the Water Lilies, a water garden with the famous Japanese bridge, wisteria, azaleas and pond which inspired the pictorial universe of the water lilies. On Site Lecture: Learn about Monet and the Impressionists and then test your knowledge with a quiz on Monet for the grandchildren. Board your coach for the short drive to Paris, your home for the next three nights.

Dinner: At a local restaurant.

Evening: Embark on a boat cruise on the river Seine and discover the many different bridges of Paris and their history.

Day Ten: Monday, July 20 - Iconic Paris: L'île de la Cité, Louvre Museum, an...
Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Explore L'île de la Cité, the medieval center of Paris. See the famous cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris and visit its archeological crypt.

Lunch: On your own to explore local cuisine.

Afternoon: Enjoy a unique discovery of the Louvre, one of the most important collections of art in the world. You will divide into teams and be given a list of masterpieces to find. This treasure hunt is both an adventure and an opportunity to learn about many different periods and styles of art. Afterward, walk through the Tuileries Garden which was created by Catherine de Medici in the 16th century. It became a public park after the French Revolution.

Day Eleven: Tuesday, July 21 - Versailles and Montmartre
Note: Use of the Paris Metro

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We will depart by coach for a field trip to the Château de Versailles. There will be an en route lecture titled, "The Truth About Life in the Court of Louis the XIV Versailles." Learn the realities of what life was like in the palace of Versailles at the time of Louis XIV. At the Château de Versailles, we will explore the state apartments of the royal palace and learn about the daily life in the time of the Sun King. We will also wander in the Versailles gardens designed by Le Notre.

Lunch: On your own in the château gardens.

Afternoon: In a guided walking tour, explore Montmartre, a place haunted by impressionist painters from the 19th century. Take the funicular to go up the hill and visit the Sacre Coeur Basilica, built from 1875 to 1919, and admire its stunning mosaic ceiling, marble sculptures, and stained-glass windows. Discover Montmartre while doing a treasure hunt. In order to find the “treasure," you will have to solve enigmas scattered in different places on the hill (small teams will be made out of the group). Return to your hotel on the Paris metro.

Dinner: Farewell dinner

Evening: Enjoy an evening illumination drive and a visit to the Eiffel Tower.
