Type: Resort

Description: The Jekyll Island Club Hotel is Jekyll Island's only 4-star resort and National Historic Landmark. Nestled amid live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, this Victorian landmark enjoys a setting of unspoiled natural beauty on Jekyll Island. The island is protected from extensive development by the state of Georgia and has miles of beaches and forest waiting to be explored. Here, millionaires wintered in scenic seclusion for decades, enjoying many amenities and privileges. The club was returned to its original elegance, highlighted by leaded art glass windows, ornate woodwork, and Rumford fireplaces. From its lofty tower to encircling verandas, Victorian charm still permeates the public areas and rooms once occupied by America’s wealthiest families. The Club's guest rooms and suites have been custom-decorated in a style befitting the elegance presumed by the original socialite owners. This historic hotel serves not only as lodging for the program’s participants; it is itself part of the course of study.

Day Two: Monday, December 22 - Gingerbread House Creations/ Holiday High Tea/ Hi...
Gingerbread House Creations/ Holiday High Tea/ Historic District Excursion/ Bagpiper performance

Breakfast: Wake up to a tasty and healthy “Good Morning” Breakfast in the Grand Dining Room with: seasonal fresh fruits, scrambled eggs, cold cereals, assorted flavors of yogurt, bacon, dried fruits, assorted juices, sausage, oatmeal, whole, 2% or skim milk, home fries, grits and a special daily breakfast entrée. Homemade Danish, muffins and biscuits come fresh from the Club Bakery. Your server will be happy to prepare you toast, bagel or English muffin. The Club Buffet includes freshly ground coffee or a selection of hot teas.

Morning: The hotel's famous pastry chefs have all the parts ready ahead of time for this Gingerbread House workshop. A place is set for each participant to put them together, ice, decorate, and make gingerbread trees and flowers. Your creations are perfect photo opportunities - so make sure to have the camera ready!

Lunch: Holiday High Tea at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. Enjoy tea sandwiches, savor warm scones and petite pastries all complimented by the perfect cup of tea.

Afternoon: A local historian will lead you through Jekyll History and the History of the Club. At the turn of the century, tycoons, politicians, and socialites flocked to Jekyll Island to revel in their own luxury and America's burgeoning wealth. Their exclusive club was described in the February 1904 issue of Munsey's Magazine as "the richest, the most exclusive, the most inaccessible club in the world." Its members included such luminaries as J.P. Morgan, William Rockefeller, Vincent Astor, Joseph Pulitzer and William K. Vanderbilt. Other names on the roster included Macy, Goodyear, and Gould.

Afternoon: Step into their past and experience the legends first-hand with our guided Passport to the Century excursion. In 1886, 53 prominent American tycoons founded the Jekyll Island Club, and members created an exclusive gilded era island retreat on Georgia’s coast for their family and friends. These empire builders shaped our nation and likewise laid the foundation for Jekyll Island’s rich future. The tram ride takes participants through the 240-acre National Historic Landmark District, and include entry into two restored cottages.

Afternoon: It's one of our favorite Yuletide traditions! A Scottish bagpiper heralds the season at the Club and then down by the Jekyll River. He begins near Crane and Cherokee Cottages, and as he advances the crowd grows a bit at each stop. You will have a private demonstration followed by questions and answers. Enjoy this special holiday treat each afternoon of Christmas week.

Dinner: A delicious dinner will be served in a banquet room.

Evening: The Jekyll Island Club Hotel is reported to have more than one ghost haunting the hotel. You will enjoy eerie ghost stories about the legends of our past. Rumor has it that some of our historic sites are haunted and might provide an experience you will never forget.

Explore Jekyll Island by trolley/ Holiday Chef demo/Christmas Eve dinner in the Grand Dining Room

Breakfast: In the Club’s Grand Dining Room.

Morning: Explore Jekyll Island by trolley. Jekyll is a state park where only 35% of the island was allowed to be developed and the balance of 65% is kept in conservation preservation. It is surrounded by 3 different ecosystems. Enjoy a brief beach walk. You will step off the trolley to walk on the pristine beach.

Lunch: Holiday Chef's demo and lunch. As the chef shows how to prepare two courses and the accompaniments, questions and comments are welcomed from the audience. The relaxed atmosphere gives guests an opportunity to learn how to prepare and present delicious fare and to exchange ideas with the chef and each other. The chef provides a very generous tasting of each course and printed, easy-to-follow recipes. “Come with an appetite!”

Afternoon: Enjoy a Bagpipper demo in our private classroom.

Afternoon: It's time for the Scottish bagpiper to heralds the season again!

Dinner: Christmas Eve Dinner will be in the Grand Dining Room. Beautifully restored in the Victorian mode, the Grand Dining Room features Ionic columns and gleaming white woodwork. Three handsome fireplaces add cheer on a Winter's day, while in Spring, the lawns and the river seen through expansive windows frame the first blossoms of crepe myrtle and magnolia trees. The glow of candlelight and piano music create an atmosphere of romance and anticipation of the meal to come. (Jackets or collared shirts, slacks requested for gentlemen.)

Evening: Christmas Caroling sing along.
