De Grazia Gallery/Master Class with pianist, Behzoud Abduraimov/ Dinner on your own

Note: Walking up to a mile over the course of the day and standing for up to 1/2 hour during gallery visit

Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel.

Morning: At 9:30 am, we'll board the bus and travel to Ted DeGrazia's art gallery.

In the 1940s, Arizona artist Ted DeGrazia had little success finding a gallery to represent him, so he decided to take matters into his own hands. First he built a studio at the corner of Prince Road and Campbell in Tucson, but as the city grew around him, he and his wife Marion bought 10 isolated acres n the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains to build a chapel, home, and a small adjoining gallery to exhibit his originals. The prolific artist soon needed more space to house his continuing output of originals. As his fame and finances flourished, he designed and built a larger adobe galley on the site and moved his growing collections out of what is now known as the Little Gallery at DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun. We'll depart for lunch destination at 11:30 AM

Lunch: Lunch today will be at El Charro Café from 12:00 - 1:30 PM.

Established in 1922,El Charro Café of Tucson is the nation’s oldest Mexican restaurant in continuous operation by the same family, featuring traditional Sonoran cultural style and innovative Tucson style Mexican food. They have several locations thoughout Tucson.

Afternoon: At 2:00 PM, bus departs for a master class with University of Arizona students, coached by Behzoud Abduraimov. Abduraimov, a 23-year-old native of Uzbekistan, is an amazing talent. "Rip-roaringly exciting" and "a gift from God" are among the breathless reviews he's elicited, as well as this from the International Record Review: "He has the neuro-motor responses of a jungle cat and the energy reserves of an Olympic athlete on peak form." After achieving a sensational victory in the 2009 London International Piano Competition, winning first prize with a thrilling performance of Prokofiev's Third Concerto, the young phenom toured with the Sydney Symphony under Vladimir Ashkenazy, a great pianist in his own right. While at this workshop, we will observe young and rising stars, including musicians like Langlang, Joseph Lin), some who have become world-famous, working with Abduraimov.

We were very pleased to be invited to this workshop by Arizona Friends of Chamber Music.

Bus returns to hotel at 5:00 PM.

Dinner: Dinner will be on our own tonight.

There are quite a few restaurants near the hotel on Campbell Avenue or, if you're tired, the hotel does serve dinner each evening. If available, the hotel van will take us there and pick us up; if it is not available, there are taxis that can take us wherever we choose to go. Just inquire in advance at the front desk for shuttle times.
