Description: Rocking Horse Ranch Resort is a truly unique place to vacation! It is on 500 acres nestled in the beautiful Shawangunk Mountains. The atmosphere is casual but the comforts are of a complete resort. It is surrounded by apple orchards, has a sparkling lake, and has the largest stable of saddle horses in the East. In addition to the Road Scholar Program, the ranch also offers a schedule of activities to partake in! Besides horseback riding there is fishing, paddleboating, nature trails, nearby golf, miniature golf, horseshoes, ping pong, handball, shuffleboard, bocci, fitness rooms, saunas, a whirlpool hot tub, indoor and outdoor pools. There is also a great food-choice menu, a huge breakfast buffet, a 24 hour coffee/cake, a nightclub with nightly entertainment, and a very friendly atmosphere.

Afternoon: Welcome to the wonderful Rocking Horse Ranch Resort!! The resort recently won near top recognition from the 2012 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Awards! As a family resort it ranked second in the United States and third in the world!

Check-in is between 4 and 5:30 p.m.

Dinner: Dinner will be served.

Evening: Following an orientation you may enjoy the facility, socialize in the lounge, or enjoy evening entertainment.

Day Two: Monday, September 15 - Field trip to Huguenot Street
Breakfast: Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m.

Morning: This morning we will travel to the beautiful Huguenot Street in New Paltz. The seven stone houses and several accompanying structures were built in the 18th century by Huguenot settlers fleeing discrimination and religious persecution in France and Belgium. There we will enjoy an onsite lecture from one of their experts. We are very fortunate to be visiting Huguenot Street at the time of completion of a major restoration of the interior of the Abraham Hasbrouck House, c. 1721. Lunch: After lunch we will be given a tour of Huguenot Street.

Dinner: Dinner at the ranch is served at 6 p.m. and followed by entertainment provided by the ranch. You may also enjoy the indoor pool, the beautiful grounds or socializing with others in the lounge rooms.

Day Three: Tuesday, September 16 - Field Trips to the Roosevelt home in Hyde Park an...
Breakfast: Following breakfast we will depart for a tour of Val-Kill and the Roosevelt's home, Springwood. We will be gone most of the day.

Morning: "All that is within me cries out to go back to my home on the Hudson River." -- (FDR)

After breakfast we'll depart for the Roosevelt's home, Springwood in Hyde Park before visiting Val-Kill, the only National Historic Site dedicated to a First Lady.

FDR encouraged Eleanor to develop Val-Kill as a place that she could develop some of her ideas for work with winter jobs for rural workers and women. Val-Kill, loosely translated as waterfall-stream.

Lunch: Lunch will be provided.

Afternoon: After lunch, we'll continue our exploration at Val-Kill before returning to the Rocking Horse in time for dinner.

Dinner: Dinner will be served at the ranch.

Evening: Enjoy the entertainment offered by the ranch following dinner!

Day Four: Wednesday, September 17 - Field Trip to Washington's Headquarters in Newbur...
Field Trip to Washington's Headquarters in Newburgh / Cruise on the beautiful Hudson River.

Breakfast: Breakfast will be served at the ranch.

Morning: After breakfast we'll stop at the Walkway over the Hudson and walk halfway across, weather permitting. We will then venture to the Hasbrouck House, which served as Washington's Headquarters during the last years of the Revolutionary War.

Lunch: We'll enjoy lunch at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh.

Afternoon: After lunch we'll embark on a cruise of the Hudson that will take us south of Newburgh and past West Point. The Hudson is a 315 mile watercourse that flows from north to south. The highest source is at Lake Tear of the Clouds in the Adirondack Mountains. It flows southward past the state capital at Albany and eventually forms the boundary between NYC and New Jersey.

Dinner: Dinner will be served at the ranch.

Day Five: Thursday, September 18 - Field Trip to the Maritime Museum / Rondout area,...
Breakfast: Breakfast will be served at the ranch.

Morning: After breakfast, we'll leave for Kingston, New York state's first capital. While there, we'll take a walking tour of the Rondount and visit the Maritime Museum to learn about the Hudson River - the river that flows both ways.

The Maritime Museum was founded in 1980 by steamboat and tugboat men, as well as local citizens who wanted to preserve the shipping history of the Hudson River. We will also take a walking tour of the Rondout area alongside the river.

Lunch: Lunch will be provided.

Afternoon: This afternoon will be a class on the History of the Hudson Valley.

Dinner: Dinner will be served at the ranch.

Evening: Following dinner enjoy the entertainment provided by the ranch!

Day Six: Friday, September 19 - Enjoy the amazing RHR Facility before you leave!
