Check In and Campus Tour/Welcome Program/Music from Covered Bridge Country

Afternoon: Arrive at Mary O. Goodwin Guest House for check-in 2:00-4:00 PM. With a guide, take a bus/walking tour of the campuses of the College and the Sisters of Providence.

Dinner: Dinner in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Evening: Get acquainted session in Providence Center followed by "Music from Covered Bridge Country".

Day Two: Tuesday, October 07 - Understanding bridges and the people who love the...
Breakfast: Breakfast in the Guest House or Le Fer Hall.

Morning: Learn from a Parke County bridge builder and covered bridge restorer how a community came together to replace a beloved bridge lost to arson. Hear how other bridges starting to crumble are brought back to life.

Lunch: Lunch in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Afternoon: Enjoy a demonstration by local county parks department superintendant and expert wood craftsman on log hewing and shingles made by hand. Learn how timber was processed before the existence of saw mills see first hand how various woodcraft tools were used while your instructor spins a country yarn and cracks a few old time jokes.

Dinner: Dinner in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Evening: Parke County history teacher and President of the Parke County Historical Society will show his reel to reel movie of the Covered Bridge Festival in its early days. He will discuss how the Festival came to be, how it has evolved, his family's participation through the years, and the economical impact of the Festival on Parke County.

Day Three: Wednesday, October 08 - Covered Bridges in Indiana
Breakfast: Breakfast in the Guest House or Le Fer Hall.

Morning: This morning we'll join a Parke County tour guide and bridge expert, as we travel by bus to visit many of the 30 bridges in the county. At all bridge sites, participants will explore and examine the bridges, ask questions of the guide, take pictures, walk across and under the bridges, and enjoy the picturesque settings.

Lunch: Lunch at Turkey Run State Park. Turkey Run will offer their delicious fried chicken lunch buffet in the lodge.

Afternoon: After lunch we will board the bus to visit the Turkey Run Narrows Bridge; one of the most beautiful of all the Parke County bridges.

Dinner: Dinner in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Evening: Learn from local musicians and purveyors of the Native American flute the legends of the flute, how they are made and how to make music with them.

Breakfast: Breakfast in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Morning: Learn about the ecological mission of the Sisters of Providence at the White Violet Center and visit with the award-winning alpacas. www.spsmw.org.

Lunch: Lunch in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Afternoon: Program "Indiana Folklore and Music" Learn where the term "Hoosier" came from, the folk stories of the area, and the music from the hills of southern Indiana from a professor of Folklore at Indiana State University.

Dinner: Dinner in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Evening: Free Night. Enjoy dinner on campus or at a local restaurant. If you stay in, watch a movie provided for you in the Guest House.

Day Five: Friday, October 10 - Ernie Pyle Museum/Parke County Covered Bridge Fes...
Breakfast: Breakfast in the Guest House or Le Fer Hall.

Morning: Board the bus after breakfast. First stop is the Ernie Pyle State Historic Site in Dana, IN. After a guided visit, re-board the bus for the opening day of the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival. Our first festival stop will be the town square in Rockville, IN.

Lunch: Lunch on your own at the Festival.

Afternoon: After lunch, board the bus for Bridgeton, IN. Bridgeton is the site of one of the most beautiful bridge settings in Parke County. Visit the old grist mill and roam the quaint old town turned festival site.

Dinner: A catered closing banquet dinner in our private dining room with entertainment provided by a local trio playing folk favorites on mandolin, guitar and Irish tin whistle.

Evening: Program: Indiana Folk Humor. Get your giggles and grins as you experience the kind of humor that is clearly Hoosier.
