Day One: Wednesday, July 23 - Arrival and Check-In, introductions/overview, din...
Arrival and Check-In, introductions/overview, dinner at a local restaurant, optional band concert.

Afternoon: Check in at motel at 3:30 PM. Pick up Road Scholar folders and meet coordinator. Introductions at 4:00 PM followed by a Welcome to the Great River Shakespeare Festival session. Meet some of the key staff of the Great River Shakespeare Festival and gain an understanding of why Winona was chosen as the site for the Festival and the philosophy and story behind the creation of the Festival.

Dinner: Dinner at nearby restaurant.

Evening: Transportation will be provided for those who would like to attend an optional outdoor Community Band Concert at the bandshell in the park.

Day Two: Thursday, July 24 - Classes during the day and a performance tonight!
Breakfast: Breakfast at motel.

Morning: Class on The Playwright: His Life and Times

Lunch: Lunch at Winona State University

Afternoon: Following lunch there will be two classes. One will be an overview of one of the plays and the other will be an actors talk. Talk to actors who will be on stage. Hear about their backgrounds, how they were hired, what they do to prepare for a role, and an opportunity to ask any of those questions you always wished you could ask when you see a stage production. These talented professional actors will share their stories with you in a most enjoyable class session.

Dinner: Dinner at a local restaurant.

Evening: You will have excellent seats as we attend the first play of this Road Scholar program. As an added bonus there will be a "company conversation" following the play where you will be able to ask questions of the cast and give them feedback on your reactions to the production.

Day Three: Friday, July 25 - More interesting classes, field trip, and a play....
More interesting classes, field trip, and a play. It will be a busy day!

Breakfast: Breakfast at motel.

Morning: This morning we will have another Actor's Talk. Meet the actors of the Merry Wives of Windsor. Hear about their backgrounds, how they were hired, what they do to prepare for a role, and an opportunity to ask any of those questions you always wished you could ask when you see a stage production. These talented professional actors will share their stories with you in a most enjoyable class session.

Lunch: Lunch at Winona State University campus.

Afternoon: After lunch we will have a class on Direction and Design....meet the production director and technical staff who conceive how the play will look when it is presented. Learn how the stage is transformed into the setting visualized by the director. Receive special insights on effects to watch for when viewing the play. Following this class we will visit the Watkins Company headquarters, museum and store.

Dinner: Dinner at a local restaurant.

Evening: Enjoy the performance of the second play!

Day Four: Saturday, July 26 - Symposium and performance
Breakfast: Breakfast at motel.

Morning: Participate in an engaging conversation at the Great River Shakespeare Festival Front Porch Event with Dr Peter Saccio. This year, Dr. Saccio will talk on both Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead in a lecture entitled: “What Happened at Elsinore?”

Lunch: Lunch and class on play direction and design.

Afternoon: After lunch we will visit the Minnesota Marine Art Musueum.

Dinner: Dinner.

Evening: Enjoy the performance of the third play.

Day Five: Sunday, July 27 - Morning classes, lunch on your own, optional perf...
Breakfast: Breakfast at the motel.

Morning: First we will have a class on the GRSF Intern/Apprentice Project followed by a Q & A session with the Great River Shakespeare Festival actors at a local venue.

Lunch: Lunch is on your own today. Enjoy your lunch break at one of our many wonderful establishments.

Afternoon: We know some of you may want to get on the road early but we do hope you will consider staying for an optional performance by the Great River Shakespeare Festival Apprentice Project. Program officially ends after this performance.
