Day Three: Saturday, December 20 - Nairobi, Kenya
Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel dining room.

Morning: Visit to the Giraffe Center to learn about the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Kenya's work to protect and increase the numbers of the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. Later, visit an elephant orphanage where you will have the opportunity to feed these gentle giants and learn about conservation efforts.

Lunch: Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Free-time in the afternoon to enjoy the hotel's wonderful amenities.

Dinner: Explore local fare on your own.

Evening: Prepare your soft sided duffle-type bag for your journey to the Maasai Mara. Your bag cannot exceed 33 lbs (15 kg).

Description: Fig Tree Camp is located on the banks of the Talek River in the world famous Maasai Mara game reserve. The Camp is situated on the northern border of the game reserve and its central location makes all areas of the park accessible during game drives.

Room amenities: Standard safari tents are on permanent foundations with verandah, overlooking the Talek River and are equipped with two beds, mosquito netting and private bathroom with shower. No hairdryer, no TV, no iron, no safe box, no telephone, no Internet.

Day Four: Sunday, December 21 - Maasai Mara National Reserve
Note: The drive from Nairobi to the Maasai Mara will take at least 4 hours and part of the road is unpaved and will be dusty. Please bring a soft sided duffle-type bag to pack belongings you will require for your two night stay in the Maasai Mara. The safari vehicles that will transport you from Nairobi cannot accommodate hard suitcases. Your bag cannot exceed 33 lbs (15 kg). You will reunite with suitcases upon return to Nairobi for flight to Mombasa and embarkation.

Breakfast: Breakfast in hotel dining room.

Morning: Early morning departure through the heart of Kenya on the way to the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Lunch: Lunch upon arrival at the camp.

Afternoon: The Maasai Mara is known as one of Africa’s greatest wildlife reserves. As you approach the reserve, be on the look out for crocodiles and hippos in the Talek River. After settling in at the camp, enjoy a relaxing game drive.

Dinner: Welcome bush dinner by camp fire.

Day Five: Monday, December 22 - Maasai Mara National Reserve
Breakfast: Early morning game drive followed by breakfast.

Morning: After breakfast, head toward the river to observe some of the 450 species of birds that thrive in the Mara including crowned cranes, long-crested eagles, marabou storks and African pygmy falcons. Before lunch, join a local Maasai Moran on a nature walk through the edges of the Maasai Mara Park. Learn about the flora as well as the park's smallest residents: insects and lizards.

Lunch: Lunch at camp.

Afternoon: Game drive. Sightings may include a variety of animals: zebra, cheetah, hyena, gazelle, elephant, and topi, amongst others. After a brief rest, there will be a presentation with a focus on the culture and customs of the Maasai.

Dinner: Dinner at camp.

Morning: After breakfast, transfer to air strip for return flight to Nairobi. You will arrive at Nairobi's Wilson Airport, and transported to the Southern Sun Mayfair hotel to pick up your luggage before continuing on to Nairobi International Airport for your transfer to Mombasa.

Lunch: Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Flight to Mombasa where we will embark the Aegean Odyssey. Late afternoon Road Scholar orientation to the ship in the "Observation Lounge."

Dinner: Dinner on board.

Morning: A former center of the spice and slave trades, present-day Zanzibar is infused with African, Arab, European and Indian influences. During this morning's excursion, explore its Stone Town, recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the house of David Livingstone, the legendary Scot who was a pioneer medical missionary and an explorer of the sub-continent.

Morning: A jewel of an island, Sri Lanka offers a unique combination of scenery, culture and history. Galle is the largest city in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. Colonized by the Portuguese in the 16th century, the city is the finest example of a Portuguese-built fortified city in Southeast Asia. Visit Galle Fort, built in the 17th century by the Dutch. It is the best-preserved colonial fort throughout Asia and is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Morning: Although Colombo is a thriving modern city, it has not lost its Old World charm, spiritual heart and historical interest. This contrast will become apparent as you see the colorful Pettah Bazaar and visit the Asokaramaya Buddhist temple.

Afternoon: Free afternoon for indepdendent exploration of Colombo.

Dinner: Farewell dinner in the hotel dining room.

Evening: Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) for departures. Flights are scheduled for very early in the morning of January 9th.
