Day One: Wednesday, August 20 - Arrival/Orientation/Welcome Dinner
Note: 1.5 hour transfer to Bar Harbor

Afternoon: Please schedule your flights to arrive into Bangor Airport by no later than 3 pm. Bangor Airport is a limited service facility. Designated arrival transfers are scheduled twice during the arrival day. One will occur at mid-day for morning arrivals and the other will occur at 4pm. These transfer times are subject to change and will be confirmed in your preparatory materials. Transfer to Bar Harbor is 1.5 hours If you will be driving, parking for the duration of the program is available free of charge at the Holiday Inn Bangor. If requested in advance and indicated on your PIF the airport transfer will stop at the Holiday Inn Bangor to pick you up

Day Two: Thursday, August 21 - Exploring Bar Harbor and Acadian National Park
Note: Throughout the tour there will be up to 2-hour of moderate walking/standing including various paved and un-paved paths. Must be able to get on and off a motor coach.

Breakfast: at hotel

Morning: Full-day motor coach exploration of Acadia National Park's stunning juncture of sea-scoured shores, towering cliffs, and forested mountains. Among the most significant sites are Cadillac Mountain - highest point in the park, Thunder Hole inlet with its roaring waves, and the Sieur De Monts Springs area recalling the era of French colonial exploration.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch in Acadia National at a local restaurant that is known for their renowned hot popovers.

Afternoon: Continue exploration this afternoon of Mount Desert Islands - Bar Harbor by walking the village green, viewing the spectacular summer estates built for America’s most powerful families and wandering in the galleries of some of Maine's most unique artists.

Day Three: Friday, August 22 - St. Croix Island International Historic Site/ Cro...
Note: We will have a long travel day today and will have a late arrival into Moncton tonight. There will be frequent stops throughout the day including the visit to St Croix (which will include a walk over non-paved path), meal breaks and crossing the border. The distance traveling today is 334 miles. The time will also move ahead one hour to Atlantic time when we cross the border. Please have your passport packed in a carry on for easy access at the border.

Morning: Depart for Moncton, New Brunswick

Lunch: at a local restaurant

Afternoon: Continue onto St. Croix Island International Historic Site. This is the location of the first French settlement in North America in 1604. This will include a short walk on their statue telling experience that leads out to the water's edge and a view of St. Croix Island (the island is not open to the public). Then continue onto St. Andrews by-the-Sea, where for over a century it has been attracting those of wealth and influence. Today St. Andrews has blossomed into a seaside resort town combining the best of New England and the Maritimes.

Dinner: enjoy a plated dinner on the shores of St. Andrews Harbor

Fort Beauséjour National Historic Site/Museé Acadien de l’Université de Moncton

Note: moderate walking/standing on unpaved, hilly terrain

Morning: Morning visit to Fort Beauséjour National Historic Site. This is a star shaped fort built in 1751, and tells the story of the tug of war for supremacy for Acadia between Britain & France.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch at Marshlands Inn. The Marshlands Inn is a “New Brunswick Country Inn” and one of Canada's best known country inns. This pre-confederation home, operating as an inn for over 60 years, has been the stopping place for many of Canada's notables and visiting celebrities. Even the Queen of England has stayed at Marshlands.

Afternoon: Afternoon visit to the Museé Acadien de l’Université de Moncton. The permanent exhibition "The Acadian Adventure" of the Musée Acadien de l’Université de Moncton is a dynamic and innovative presentation of the history of Acadie in Atlantic Canada, as well as the history of its material culture. The Workshop's focus is the Musical Side! A cultural evolution of the French who settled in Acadie and their adaptation to their environment, and the way in which their proximity to the sea and the forest influenced their songs and music. We will also discuss how the classical colleges have influenced the development of Acadian music, as well as the presence of music in various cultural, religious and popular events until today.

Note: walking and standing up to 1 mile on paved paths. There is a motorized cart that can assist with some of the distance. Distance traveling today is 165 miles.

Breakfast: at hotel, deluxe continental breakfast with hot and cold selections

Morning: Depart for town of Bouctouche. Created from the imagination of internationally-renowned Acadian novelist, playwright and author Antonine Maillet, Le Pays is the island where Acadians celebrate. The focus here will be on music. Included will be a private presentation with some 'toe-tapping' plus a tasting of Bagosse, Acadian moonshine.

Lunch: of a traditional Acadian dish at Le Pays de la Sagouine

Afternoon: Depart for the town of Caraquet on a short coastal drive out of Bouctouche. In the late afternoon, arrive in Caraquet on the Chaleur Bay, a peaceful town & the epitome of Acadian celebration, pride, hospitality, simplicity, open-mindedness, desire, strength, sensitivity and Acadian flavour.

Breakfast: buffet with a variety of choices at hotel

Morning: Exploration at Village Historique Acadien, Provincial Heritage Place- an authentic historical site, showing the lives of Acadians of the 18th, 19th & 20th Centuries. On arrival, the village historian will meet with us to give a talk about the daily life of the Acadians then we will continue into the village to explore a variety of the houses that highlights this culture including farming of flax seed, creation of dikes, and the wood carving skills to create items to be used in the home

Lunch: Lunch within the Village Historic Acadian

Afternoon: Visit to Sainte-Anne-du-Bocage-Shrine, a pilgrimage site and historic monument dedicated to the memory of the first Acadians who settled in the Caraquet area after the Deportation. Listen to a resident who will speak about the five families who were first settlers.

Dinner: Experience an exclusively arranged "Home Visit" dinner with local Acadian Peninsula families. All meals will be a modern take on Acadian food with a home cooked twist.

Breakfast: buffet with a variety of choices at hotel

Morning: A local expert of the Acadian Peninsula will join us today in the nature and culture-based exploration of neighboring coastal communities of Miscou Island and Lameque Island.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch at Terrasse à Steve. This eatery is located on the water and just a great hidden gem. Chat with new friends around family style seating next to the marina where lobster is delivered right off the boat. Here you will experience how the Acadian's serve Lobster

Afternoon: Visit Sainte-Cécile church in Petite-Rivière-de-l’Île, Lamèque Island, home of The Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival whereby the greatest baroque music performers from all over the world are pleased to present their music in July of every year. But there is another reason to visit…as the church is an attraction in and of itself. Built in 1913, it was repainted in 1968 by the parish priest in a multicoloured motif. Its wooden structure offers perfect acoustics for the music, and with its coloured interior, it makes a dramatic impression on daily visitors and music audiences alike.

Dinner: We will be closing the evening on the Acadian Peninsula with Dinner at Chateau Albert and entertainment from local Acadian musicians.

Note: moderate walking of up to 1/2 mile on unpaved terrain. The distance traveling today is 193 miles.

Breakfast: buffet with a variety of choices at hotel

Morning: Depart for Fredericton with stop at Beaubears Island Interpretative Centre. This National Historic Site tells the story of Charles Deschamps de Boishébert who led the Acadians to Beaubears Island and Wilson's Point, where they took refuge after the deportation of 1755. It is also the only known extensive, undisturbed archaeological site, which still exists today, associated with the 19th century wooden shipbuilding industry in New Brunswick and perhaps Canada. Take a short boat ride to the island for interpretive experience.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch overlooking the Miramichi River, known for its world-class salmon fishing.

Afternoon: Arrive to Fredericton in the late afternoon. Capital of New Brunswick, this town is an important cultural, artistic and educational centre for the province. It is home to two universities and multiple cultural and performing arts venues. The Saint John River flows west to east as it bisects the city and provides the dominant natural feature.

Dinner: on your own in Fredericton, group leader will provide a list of recommended places within 10 minutes walking distance from our centrally located hotel.

Historic Garrison District/ Government House/ Christ Church Cathedral/ Free Afternoon

Note: moderate walking of one mile.

Morning: A historically costumed guide will transport us to the past, offering dramatic anecdotes, stories, songs and poems from the various periods of our history. The highly-skilled guide will mix this unique flavor with traditional commentary featuring architecture, social history and interesting trivia. The exploration will include some walking or bus transport in the downtown neighborhood, Legislative Assembly Building, Government House, Christ Church Cathedral and the University Campus.

Discussion with local historian/Fredericton Region Museum/ Travel to Bangor

Note: The time will move back one hour to Eastern time when we cross the border into the US. Please have your passport packed in a carry on for easy access at the border. The distance traveling today is 145 miles

Breakfast: buffet at the hotel includes hot and cold items, fresh fruit, breakfast breads, and beverages (coffee, tea, water).

Morning: Meet for a discussion with local Historian and Author in hotel. After a brief talk, walk to the Fredericton Region Museum for viewing of shows.The Fredericton Region Museum is a gateway into the exciting history and diverse heritage of central New Brunswick. Because central New Brunswick is the provincial capital, and it has served as a meeting place for Aboriginals, Loyalists, Acadian, and other European settlers, the Fredericton Region Museum is wonderful place to explore.

Lunch: walk to a popular 'locals' restaurant and enjoy lunch before we depart for the US
