Equipment Requirements
Hybrid bikes, helmets, water bottles, small rear bag, lock, water bottle, repair kit, pump, spare inner tube, odometer, map holder and high visibility vest will be supplied and are included in the program cost. Bring your own seat and pedals if you have a particular preference. You are also welcome to bring your own bike.

Day One: Friday, July 11 - Arrivals/Introduction to Prince Edward Island
Afternoon: Participants arrive to the hotel in the afternoon check-in after 3:00 p.m.

Dinner: Welcome dinner at the hotel.

Evening: Introductions are followed by a lecture on Prince Edward Island. A local historian will bring the early history of the Island alive using stories of the people who have made Prince Edward Island their home: native Mi’kmaq, French explorers, Acadian farmers, British military, and Scottish and Irish immigrants.

Day Two: Saturday, July 12 - Historic Charlottetown Walk/Province House
Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel.

Morning: Embark on a guided walk with a local historian to learn about the historic city of Charlottetown.

Lunch: Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: At Province House National Historic Site, discover the significant role this building has played in the history of Canada. The Charlottetown Conference was held here in 1864. The delegates were driven by fears of American expansionism and by Britain's growing desire that its North American colonies should look after themselves. Yet these men were gripped by the idea of a new, independent nation. After further conferences in Halifax and Quebec, the delegates hammered out the terms of Confederation, and Canada was born on July 1, 1867. Province House is also the seat of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Legislature since 1847.

Dinner: Dinner on your own.

Evening: Enjoy a free evening in Charlottetown.

Day Three: Sunday, July 13 - Cycling: North Cape to Alberton
Note: Cycling approximately 22 miles (36 kms).

Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel.

Morning: Morning meeting in Charlottetown for bicycle introductions and familiarization; transfer to North Cape by 11:30.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Cycle to Kildare Cape, where the island’s first European visitor Jacques Cartier remarked “the fairest land 'tis possible to see!”. Finish with a ride towards Alberton and into Northport and your beautifully located waterfront inn.

Dinner: Dinner at the resort.

Day Four: Monday, July 14 - Cycling: Mill River to West Point
Note: Cycling approximately 28 miles (45 kms); options for additional cycling.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the resort.

Morning: On your bike again, cross the island to the Acadian Coast for an idyllic ride overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence. You’ll pass tiny villages and Cape Wolfe on route to the West Point Lighthouse.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Cycling continues. Transfer to Stanley Bridge.

Dinner: Dinner at the resort.

Day Five: Tuesday, July 15 - Cycling: Stanley Bridge to Summerside
Note: Cycling approximately 32 miles (50 kms); options for additional cycling.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the resort.

Morning: Starting in Stanley Bridge; set out by bike to explore the countryside as we cycle into Summerside.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Cycling continues. Transfer/cycle to Stanley Bridge.

Dinner: Dinner at the resort

Day Six: Wednesday, July 16 - Cycling: Stanley Bridge to Dalvay
Note: Cycling approximately 28 miles (45 kms); options for additional cycling.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the resort.

Morning: Departing from Stanley Bridge, follow the coast past lighthouses and toward PEI National Park and onto Dalvay-by-the-Sea. Explore the National Park beaches, where the wide and quiet roads make a wonderful ride along the dunes and a perfect location for a picnic lunch.

Lunch: Picnic lunch

Afternoon: Continue cycling in PEI National Park and spend time at Green Gables National Historic Site, the famed fictional home of red-haired Anne Shirley, the heroine of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic 1908 novel, "Anne of Green Gables". Discover the history of the house as well as biographical information about Montgomery. Transfer/cycle to Stanley Bridge

Day Seven: Thursday, July 17 - Cycling: Confederation Trail and Prince Edward Is...
Note: Cycling approximately 32 miles (50 kms); option for additional cycling or other activities: sea kayaking, golf, and deep-sea fishing ($$ additional cost for optional activities).

Breakfast: Breakfast at the resort.

Morning: Transfer to Kensington to cycle along the Confederation Trail and into PEI National Park. A presentation will introduce you to Prince Edward Island National Park. Learn about the park's dynamic system of shifting sand carried by wind and waves, the finest example of sand-dune ecosystems in Atlantic Canada.

Lunch: Lunch on your own.

Afternoon: Continue cycling in the Park or participate in other optional activities. Enjoy the national park beaches, the easy cycling, and the abundant distractions. Options for those who prefer not to ride the fabulous beach roads will enjoy kayaking, windsurfing, browsing in a gallery of local artists, golf, deep-sea fishing, beach-basking, swimming in the warm Gulf waves, or just lingering over a fantastic lunch at Dalvay-by-the-Sea or the Dunes Gallery.

Morning: Turning inland through rolling farmland, you will practice your navigation skills following rural roads toward a picnic lunch overlooking St. Peter’s Bay from old train trestles.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Cycling continues on the East coast of the island, much quieter and more varied, where the roads follow the shore and you can visit the newest part of the National Park at Greenwich for a stroll among the delightful dunes. There may be a live theatre option in St. Peter’s tonight; check out www.courthousetheatre.com.

Day Nine: Saturday, July 19 - Cycling: St. Peter’s to East Point
Note: Cycling approximately 41 miles (65 kms).

Breakfast: Breakfast at the resort.

Morning: This morning we set out from Crowbush Cove, cycling along the shore of St. Peter’s Bay, one of the best stretches of the Confederation Trail, past the old Elmira railway station that marks the end of the Trail. Transfer to East Point.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Cycle to East Point Lighthouse stopping to enjoy the wee bridge over Naufrage Harbour. Pass North Lake and East Point Lighthouse, then stop to enjoy the Singing Sands at Basin Head, and if you like, enjoy swimming and playing on miles of deserted beach and dunes. We know of a real and rare adventure for warm days here and hope we get a chance to show you! Transfer to Charlottetown at day’s end, pleasantly tired from a day full of PEI’s best outdoor experience.

Dinner: Farewell dinner in Charlottetown.
