Equipment Requirements
Biking attire and comfortable shoes. Bicycles are included. The program uses new or nearly new, high-end TREK hybrid bikes. The riding position is comfortable and semi-upright. These are the rental bikes the outfitter recommends and supply for most riders. Trek 7.4fx/7.5fx or equivalent. Bike rental includes hybrid bikes, helmets, water bottles, small rear bag, lock, water bottle, repair kit, pump, spare inner tube, odometer, map holder and high visibility vest will be supplied and are included in the program cost. Bring your own seat and pedals if you have a particular preference. You are also welcome to bring your own bike

Arrival and Check-In/Welcome Dinner/Introduction to Prince Edward Island

Afternoon: Participants arrive to the hotel in the afternoon check-in after 3:00 p.m. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: Welcome dinner at the hotel at 6:00 p.m.

Evening: Introductions are followed by a lecture on Prince Edward Island. A local historian will bring the early history of the Island alive using stories of the people who have made Prince Edward Island their home: native Mi’kmaq, French explorers, Acadian farmers, British military, and Scottish and Irish immigrants.

Day Two: Saturday, July 12 - Historic Charlottetown Walk/Province House
Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel.

Morning: Embark on a guided walk with a local historian to learn about the historic city of Charlottetown.

Lunch: Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: At Province House National Historic Site, discover the significant role this building has played in the history of Canada. The Charlottetown Conference was held here in 1864. The delegates were driven by fears of American expansionism and by Britain's growing desire that its North American colonies should look after themselves. Yet these men were gripped by the idea of a new, independent nation. After further conferences in Halifax and Quebec, the delegates hammered out the terms of Confederation, and Canada was born on July 1, 1867. Province House is also the seat of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Legislature since 1847.

Dinner: Dinner on your own.

Evening: Enjoy a free evening in Charlottetown.

Note: Cycling approximately 36 miles/56 kms.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel.

Morning: Morning meeting in Charlottetown for bicycle introductions and familiarization; transfer to North Cape by 11:30.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Cycle to Kildare Cape, where the island’s first European visitor Jacques Cartier remarked “the fairest land 'tis possible to see!”. Finish with a ride towards Alberton and Kildare Cape before arriving at our destination in Mill River.

Cycling: Mill River to Summerside/Acadian Coast/Transfer to Stanley Bridge

Note: Cycling approximately 39 miles/62 kms plus options.

Breakfast: At inn

Morning: Morning transfer to Mount Pleasant, then cycle along the Acadian Coast towards Summerside with a stop at the bottle houses. This is a short coastal ride before returning to the Confederation Trail for the ride into Summerside.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Cycling continues followed by a transfer to Stanley Bridge (approximately 30 minutes).

Dinner: Dinner at the hotel.

Day Five: Tuesday, July 15 - Cycling: Kensington to Stanley Bridge/Green Gable...
Note: Cycling approximately 31 miles/50 kms

Breakfast: Breakfast at inn.

Morning: Transfer to Kensington then bicycle the coast past lighthouses and toward the site of Green Gables, home of Lucy Maud Montgomery and inspiration for her novel "Anne of Green Gables". Spend time at Green Gables National Historic Site, the famed fictional home of red-haired Anne Shirley, the heroine of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic 1908 novel, "Anne of Green Gables". Discover the history of the house as well as biographical information about Montgomery.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Cycling continues. Finish the day with a splash in the surf at Cavendish Beach, before exploring supper options near Green Gables.

Dinner: Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day Six: Wednesday, July 16 - Cycling: PEI National Park/Dalvay-by-the-Sea
Note: Cycling approximately 25 miles/40 kms

Breakfast: Breakfast at the inn.

Morning: Cycle through PEI National Park towards Dalvay-by-the-Sea. A presentation will introduce you to Prince Edward Island National Park. Learn about the park's dynamic system of shifting sand carried by wind and waves, the finest example of sand-dune ecosystems in Atlantic Canada.

Lunch: Picnic lunch

Afternoon: Continue cycling or explore the National Park beaches, where the wide and quiet roads make a wonderful ride along the dunes and a perfect location for a picnic lunch. Transfer back to Stanley Bridge.

Dinner: Dinner at the hotel.

Note: Cycling up to 45 miles (75 kms), or optional activities: sea kayaking, golf, and deep-sea fishing.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel.

Morning: An easy day to allow you time to enjoy the national park beaches, the easy cycling, and the abundant distractions. Options for those who prefer not to ride the fabulous beach roads will enjoy kayaking, windsurfing, browsing in a gallery of local artists, golf, deep-sea fishing, beach-basking, swimming in the warm Gulf waves, or just lingering over a fantastic lunch at Dalvay-by-the-Sea or the Dunes Gallery. You’ll also have the option to visit Charlottetown tonight to see “Anne of Green Gables”; check rates and schedules at www.confederationcentre.com.

Afternoon: Continue cycling or participate in other optional activities.

Morning: Cycling begins at Stanley Bridge en route to Crowbush Cove. Turning inland through rolling farmland, you will practice your navigation skills following rural roads toward St. Peter’s Bay.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Cycling continues on the East coast of the island, much quieter and more varied, where the roads follow the shore and you can visit the newest part of the National Park at Greenwich for a stroll among the delightful dunes. There may be a live theatre option in St. Peter’s tonight; check out www.courthousetheatre.com.

Cycling: St. Peter’s to East Point/Naufrage Harbour/Singing Sands/Transfer to Charlottetown

Note: 47 miles/75 kms

Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel.

Morning: Cycle to East Point Lighthouse stopping to enjoy the wee bridge over Naufrage Harbour. Pass North Lake and East Point Lighthouse, then stop to enjoy the Singing Sands at Basin Head, and if you like, enjoy swimming and playing on miles of deserted beach and dunes. We know of a real and rare adventure for warm days here and hope we get a chance to show you!

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Return from East Point by van or by bike along clay roads through blueberry farms and past the old Elmira railway station that marks the end of the Confederation Trail. Transfer to Charlottetown at day’s end, pleasantly tired from a day full of PEI’s best outdoor experience.

Dinner: Farewell dinner in Charlottetown.
