Day One: Saturday, July 26 - Registration/Program Orientation and introduction...
Afternoon: Hotel check-in after 3:00 PM. On site NAU Road Scholar program registration between 4:30 - 5:15 pm in the hotel lobby.

Dinner: Dinner will be catered at the hotel. Entrees will vary nightly and include a vegetarian option. Entrees will include a child friendly option as well as include salad, assorted rolls & butter, light desert, and a non-alcoholic beverage.

Evening: Introductions and orientation in the hotel meeting room following dinner. Get to know your new friends of every age, review the upcoming schedule, and get set for an unforgettable adventure with your loved ones.

Day Two: Sunday, July 27 - Pink Jeep Excursion in Sedona / Grand Canyon Nat...
Pink Jeep Excursion in Sedona / Grand Canyon National Park/Ranger Program

Note: Climbing in and out of jeep at scenic stops in Sedona (4500'). Walking short distances on pavement along the South Rim of Grand Canyon (7000').

Breakfast: Enjoy a large buffet breakfast at the hotel, which includes: scrambled eggs, omelette's cooked to order, bacon, sausage, sliced fruit, whole grain breads, oatmeal or cereal, coffee,tea and juice.

Morning: After breakfast depart for Sedona. See how the Arizona landscape changes as we travel from the Sonoran desert with its famous saguaro cactus up in elevation to the Colorado Plateau region. In Sedona, take a guided "Pink Jeep" 4x4 tour to an off-the-beaten-path location of high scenic value. Pink Jeeps is the largest and most highly regarded jeep company in the southwest. Expect some sections of road where there may be jostling in the vehicle as the driver navigates dirt roads, sandy washes, and/or slick rock. Vehicles are very comfortable, seat up to 7 people, and have grab bars to hold on to with every seat. There will be some walking involved as we visit view points, historic attractions, or archaeological sights. Seeing the red rocks of Sedona from a jeep is just the beginning of some great memories you'll share with your family members.

Lunch: Lunch at a Sedona restaurant.

Afternoon: After lunch you will travel through scenic Oak Creek Canyon on our way to the Grand Canyon. Travel past the San Francisco Peaks Volcanic Field in Flagstaff and the site of Arizona's highest point, Humphreys Peak, elev. 12,633 feet. Afternoon finds the group arriving at the south rim of Grand Canyon National Park and on to the brink of the world famous chasm. If you've never experienced it before, get ready for a thrill! Through activities together over the next few days, your guide will help you to understand this world wonder. Can you see the North Rim Lodge from the South Rim? See if you can find it! In a few days you'll be standing there, 1000' higher, and looking back towards the South Rim. Hotel check in between 4:00 and 5:00 PM.

Dinner: Dinner at your leisure at the Lodge's "Canyon Cafe". Many entree choices to choose from as well as soups, salads, sandwiches, Mexican specialties, and a variety of tasty desserts.

Evening: After dinner, shuttle or walk to the Shrine of Ages Auditorium or McKee Amphitheater (depending on the season) for an optional National Park Service ranger presentation. All topics relate to Grand Canyon themes, change nightly and are kid friendly. If weather and fire conditions permit, the rangers usually light a campfire.

Day Three: Monday, July 28 - Grand Canyon National Park - South Rim Village Wa...
Grand Canyon National Park - South Rim Village Walk/Bright Angel Trail/Free Time to Explore

Note: Walking along the rim on paved trail at 7000' elevation. Walk down the Bright Angel Trail on wide, dirt trail with elevation change of no more than 500' in 1/2 mile.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Canyon Cafe. Many options to choose from including scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, sausage, bacon, breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice,and coffee.

Morning: After breakfast the group will depart for a walking tour of the historic Grand Canyon Village. Your guide will discuss the many characters that help develop the rim facilities and point out famous village area landmarks including the Kolb Brothers Photo Studio and the buildings of Fred Harvey designer Mary Jane Colter - including the Bright Angel Lodge, Lookout Studio and the Hopi House. To the east, visit the El Tovar Hotel, one of the great lodges in the National Park system. A discussion and a handout on free time options and activities for the upcoming afternoon will be included. An optional walk down part of the famous Bright Angel Trail will be offered before lunch.

Lunch: Enjoy either a lunch or dinner on your own allowing more time to experience the Canyon on your own terms and at your own pace.

Afternoon: After lunch, the afternoon is free to explore the South Rim and environs. Along with the park "Guide" newspaper and map, and a "free time options" handout participants can choose from a variety of activities and viewpoints.The historic Grand Canyon Village, Hermit's Rest West Rim shuttle, Yavapai Point, bike rentals, and rim walks are all popular activities. The free park shuttle allows anyone to access various points on the South Rim.

Dinner: Enjoy either a lunch or dinner on your own allowing more time to experience the Canyon on your own terms and at your own pace.

Evening: Shuttle to Mather Point for a Grand Canyon sunset! Mather Point will offer late evening shadows and light in the canyon and sweeping rim views.

Day Four: Tuesday, July 29 - Grand Canyon Overflight trip / Desert View Watcht...
Grand Canyon Overflight trip / Desert View Watchtower/ Marble Canyon / Lee's Ferry

Note: Today's one hour scenic flight over the Grand Canyon will employ a dual engine "Vistaliner" aircraft. The aircraft can comfortably carry 19 passengers. For more information regarding the Vistaliner and a complete listing of the aircraft's safety features and amenities, check out Grand Canyon Airlines equipment page at: www.grandcanyonairlines.com/equipment/vistaliner In the afternoon, walk a short distance through sand to the Colorado River in Grand Canyon.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Canyon Cafe.

Morning: Check out of the lodge after breakfast and begin an epic day. Start with a short drive over to the Grand canyon airport where we will board a 24 passenger fixed wing plane for a thrilling flight over the Grand Canyon. The size of the canyon is immense and while hiking into the canyon and standing on its rim gives great perspective, the overflight will blow your mind. After the one hour trip, we load the vehicles and continue our journey along the Grand Canyon's "East Rim". The first stop will be at the Desert View overlook. Desert View has the best views of the Colorado River and is the location of the famous Mary Jane Colter's Watchtower. Climb the Watchtower on your own -- can you find the petroglyphs built into the tower? -- and enjoy a picnic lunch in its shadows before you leave the national park and enter the Navajo Nation.

Lunch: Picnic lunch on the South Rim.

Afternoon: After lunch we exit the park and enter the western edge of the Navajo Reservation and travel through the Painted Desert. We will cross the Colorado River at Marble Canyon and visit historic Lee's Ferry and the banks of the Colorado River. Enjoy one of the most unique beaches in the world at Lee's Ferry Beach where on the opposite side of the river a vertical cliff of 500' rises up to stun the senses. Explore a few of the other wordly mushroom rocks -- hmm? why did they form this way? -- in the area and check into the Marble Canyon Lodge in late afternoon.

Dinner: Dinner at the Marble Canyon Lodge.

Evening: Enjoy an opportunity to do some incredible star gazing. Marble Canyon is so remote and removed from light pollution that you won't believe the show that awaits overhead.

Description: The only lodging available on the North Rim, this old lodge of rough hewn logs and rocks is chiseled into the limestone of the rim itself, offering broad views of the Grand Canyon, Bright Angel Canyon, the South Rim, and the San Francisco Peaks nearly 100 miles south. Rooms are in nearby cabins on the same grounds, within walking distance of the lodge. These historic cabins are both rustic and romantic.

Day Five: Wednesday, July 30 - Grand Canyon National Park - North Rim Viewpoints...
Note: Short walk out to Pt. Imperial viewpoint and down some stairs at 8800'/Optional hike on N. Kaibab Trail with maximum elevation change of 800'.

Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the Lodge, includes fresh fruit, hot items, such as French toast, eggs, hash browns, and bacon, granola, yogurt, breakfast pastires, coffe and juice.

Morning: In the morning we depart Marble Canyon right after breakfast and travel to the North Rim to maximize our time at this incomparable destination. Continue along the base of the Vermilion Cliffs and rise onto the cool, verdant Kaibab Plateau, with its spruce, fir and aspen forest. Our first stop will be Point Imperial, the highest viewpoint in the park at 8803 feet. Is this the highest you've ever been before? You naturalist guide will point out Grand Canyon and regional landmarks (some up to 100 miles away). Discussions may include regional geography, canyon trails, California condors and fire ecology to name a few. Picnic lunch on site.

Lunch: Box lunch inclucdes a deli-style sandwich, chips, fresh fruit and cookie or granola bar.

Afternoon: After lunch enjoy an optional hike down the North Kaibab Trail (with a 600 foot elevation loss and a distance of 3/4 miles one way). This hike concludes at a stunning overlook and provides an opportunity to feel as if you are really "in" the canyon. For those that prefer not to do the hike, other options will be availble such as enjoying some free time on the North Rim or taking in a Park ranger program. Arrive and check in at the North Rim Lodge in the late afternoon.

Dinner: Dinner in the majestic dining room of North Rim, with magnificent views through huge picture windows. Entree choices include Roasted chicken, Prime Rib, Roasted Salmon Filet with Cilantro Drizzle or Whole Wheat Mushroom Pasta with bay spinach and Oven Roasted Tomatoes.

Evening: After dinner enjoy an optional National Park Service ranger presentation in the lodge auditorium or watch sunset over the Grand Canyon. Don't forget to take a walk out to Bright Angel Point where the Canyon's panorama is on all sides and below as well.

Day Six: Thursday, July 31 - Depart Grand Canyon / Cameron Trading Post / Retu...
Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the Lodge.

Morning: After breakfast, depart Grand Canyon and re-trace our steps with a stop at the historic Navajo Bridge. During our stop at the Navajo Bridge participants will be able to take a thrilling stroll across this now pedestrian bridge and marvel at the 500' chasm below and the muddy waters of the Colorado. Continue to the historic 1916 Cameron Trading Post. Native American arts and crafts galore will be available at Cameron Trading Post. Lunch on site.

Lunch: Lunch at Cameron Trading Post. In addition to standard lunch menu selections we will offer up and introduce you to the famous "Navajo Taco" - a light, crispy fry bread loaded with traditional taco toppings. It's a memorable experience!

Afternoon: After lunch in Cameron, travel to Flagstaff, through the Verde Valley, Cordes Junction and on to our Scottsdale hotel.

Dinner: Dinner will be at Macayo's Mexican Restaurant, a favorite of locals. Enjoy a festive, final night meal with your new found friends as you recount the events of the week.

Evening: Dinner will be followed by a program wrap-up session, including reflections and farewells.

Day Seven: Friday, August 01 - Farewell to Friends and Program Conclusion
