We also have an area featuring a big screen TV. Free wireless Internet service is available in the lobby, in the guest rooms and throughout the Lodge. Kandahar Lodge also offers a Wellness Center. Day One: Monday, July 21 - Independent Arrivals / Registration / Orientation...
Afternoon: Check in any time after 4:00 p.m. Please stop by the Road Scholar registration table in the Kandahar lobby between 4:00 and 4:45 to complete some light paperwork. Orientation will take place at 5:00. The Group Leader will greet you with a warm welcome and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date daily program schedule and any changes, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer any questions you may have. During free time, the Group Leader will often be available to guide informal excursions, activities, or meals not included in the program. You are welcome to join if you wish, with associated costs (if any) on your own, or explore independently. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: Our opening dinner will take place at Ed and Mully’s - a short shuttle ride away to Whitefish Mountain Resort. Participants will enjoy a buffet of classic American style entrees with Vegetarian and Gluten-free entrees available upon prior request. The Restaurant also offers a full-service bar.

Evening: Feel free to get settled into your room this evening.

Day Two: Tuesday, July 22 - Overview of Glacier and Waterton National Parks /...
Overview of Glacier and Waterton National Parks / Scenic Gondola Ride / Walk/Hike

Breakfast: In the Kandahar Lodge Lobby, enjoy a tasty continental breakfast with choices of whole grain breads and bagels, a variety of yogurts, cold cereals, granola, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, and a rotation of fresh sliced fruit. Cranberry juice, orange juice, milk, coffee & hot tea will also be available.

Morning: This morning we'll have a program introducing the Glacier and Waterton area. Next we'll ride aboard the "Glacier Chaser" gondola and chairlift—also known as Big Mountain Express—for a 15-minute scenic ride to the summit of Big Mountain. Elevation at the summit is 7,000'.

Lunch: Relish breathtaking views of Glacier National Park and Flathead Valley while you enjoy a lunch buffet at the Summit House, located at the summit of Big Mountain. A classic buffet with American style entrees will be offered. Vegetarian and Gluten-free entrees available upon prior request.

Afternoon: Depending on the weather of the day, we’ll be led on an informative hike either at the summit or the base of the mountain. Both trails include uneven and rocky terrain, as well as inclines and declines. (All outdoor activity subject to weather)

Dinner: A shuttle will take you a short distance to dinner at Ed & Mully's. Our dinner buffet this evening will include classic American style entrees. Vegetarian and Gluten-free entrees available upon prior request. The Restaurant also offers a full-service bar.

Evening: Tonight's instructor will present on the fascinating culture and history of this majestic area.

The hotel was declared a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1976.

Day Three: Wednesday, July 23 - Travel to Many Glacier Hotel via Going-to-the-Sun...
Breakfast: Continental breakfast at Kandahar Lodge.

Morning: This morning, after checking out of Kandahar Lodge, we'll depart for Many Glacier Hotel by way of the Historic Going-to-the-Sun Road. (Going-to-the-Sun Road access subject to weather and road conditions) This National Historic Landmark is the only road that crosses Glacier National Park and is a testament to human ingenuity as portions of the road hug the mountain sides. Switch backs and tunnels were constructed to help visitors bypass through some of the most spectacular scenery Glacier National Park has to offer. We'll make a stop at Logan Pass, located along the Continental Divide, where waters flow toward both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Logan Pass is the highest point on the Going-to-the-Sun Road with an elevation of 6,647'.

Lunch: Enjoy a pre-selected sack lunch made fresh with sandwich or wrap, sides, piece of fruit and beverage.

Afternoon: This afternoon we'll continue our journey over the Going-to-the-Sun Road where we'll view sky scraping peaks, waterfalls and broad alpine meadows teeming with wildflowers and wildlife. Later in the afternoon we'll check in to Many Glacier Hotel. Many Glacier was built in 1914 by the Great Northern Railway as a destination resort for its rail tourists. The hotel sits among soaring peaks and glassy lakes.

Dinner: After arriving at Many Glacier Hotel, enjoy a menu select dinner in the Ptarmigan Dining Room, located on site at the hotel. With its lakeside views, this is the most refined of the restaurants located in Glacier National Park.

Evening: Optional evening wildlife viewing. Bring your binoculars as we "glass" the nearby slopes looking for grizzlies, moose, and bighorn sheep.

Day Four: Thursday, July 24 - Hike Glacier National Park's Scenic Swiftcurrent ...
Breakfast: Menu select in the hotel dinning room.

Morning: This morning enjoy a presentation covering more of the amazing ecosystems of Glacier National Park area.

Lunch: Menu select in the hotel dinning room.

Afternoon: This afternoon we'll hit the trails for an easy to moderate walk/hike in the Swiftcurrent Valley.

Dinner: Menu select in the hotel dinning room.

Evening: Optional evening wildlife viewing. Bring your binoculars as we "glass" the nearby slopes looking for grizzlies, moose, and bighorn sheep.

Description: Ambiance of a majestic National Park hotel with stunning views over looking Waterton Lake. The Prince of Wales Hotel was built as an extension to the chain of hotels and chalets built and operated by the Great Northern Railway in Glacier National Park, Montana. The hotel is named after the Prince of Wales, the popular Prince Edward, who was later to become King Edward VIII. He was admired and adored worldwide, even after his abdication of the British Throne in 1936 when he chose to marry a commoner from America.

Yes, you guessed it, the hotels are nearing 100 years old and the telephone lines are just as historic. We offer you a direct dial analog phone line. A $0.50 access fee and long distance rates will apply to all calls. We know it can get hot some days so the property offers limited number of fans for guest rooms. The fans are available upon request at the Front Desk. We understand that having a hair dryer in your hotel room is a standard and common feature. However, these historic hotels/inns have sensitive electric circuitry that do not allow for high electricity demand. We do have a limited number of hairdryers available at the front desk that we would be more than happy to loan during your stay. Day Five: Friday, July 25 - Travel to Waterton Lakes National Park
Breakfast: Menu select in the hotel dinning room.

Morning: After checking out of Many Glacier Hotel, we'll depart for Waterton Lakes National Park. Remember to have your passports accessible for the US/Canadian border crossing. Next, we'll stop at the Remington Carriage Museum in Cardston where we'll see over 240 carriages, wagons and sleighs in the largest collection of horse-drawn vehicles in North America.

Lunch: Enjoy a pre-selected sack lunch made fresh with sandwich or wrap, sides, piece of fruit and beverage.

Afternoon: This afternoon, we'll spend time at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here we'll bear witness to an aboriginal hunting practice that was used by native people of the North American plains for almost 6,000 years. This evening we'll check into the stunning Prince of Wales Hotel where we'll enjoy dinner and some free time. Named after the popular Prince Edward of Wales, who later became King Edward VIII, the hotel is a National Historic Site of Canada. The hotel was built by the Great Northern Railway in 1927 and boasts Swiss-style architechure with British ambience.

Dinner: After arriving at the Prince of Wales Hotel, enjoy a menu select dinner at the Royal Stewart Dining Room, located onsite at the hotel.

Day Six: Saturday, July 26 - International Scenic Boat Cruise / Walk/Hike / Fr...
Breakfast: In the Royal Stewart Dining Room at Prince of Wales Hotel, enjoy a menu select breakfast. The menu offers standard American classics as well as a lighter fare for those not looking for a heavy morning meal.

Morning: This morning we'll head to downtown Waterton for an International boat cruise on pristine Waterton Lake. Our cruise will offer some of the most spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains, including; majestic towering cliffs, unique geological formations, striking waterfalls, snow covered peaks, and the international border between Canada and the United States.

Lunch: Menu select in the hotel dining room.

Afternoon: After lunch, we'll take a walk/hike along Cameron Lake or in Red Rock Canyon.

Dinner: This dinner has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy the cuisine of your choice. Waterton has numerous restaurants. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions. You may also join the Group Leader for lunch at your own cost if you like.

Evening: Free evening. Take this opportunity for personal independent exploration to see and do what interests you most. Please feel free to ask the Group Leader for free time activity suggestions.

Day Seven: Sunday, July 27 - Return Trip to Kandahar Lodge
Breakfast: Menu select in the hotel dining room.

Morning: This morning, after checking out of the Prince of Wales Hotel, have your passports accessible for re-entry into the US. Once through, we'll visit The Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier.The immense timbers that support the Lodge were around 500 to 800 years old when they were cut. There are a total of 60 timbers. They are 36 to 42 inches in diameter, 40 feet long, and all retain their bark. The timbers in the lobby are Douglas fir and the verandahs are supported by Cedars from Washington.

Lunch: Enjoy a pre-selected sack lunch made fresh with sandwich or wrap, sides, piece of fruit and beverage.

Afternoon: On our return trip to Kandahar Lodge we'll stop and visit the Goat Lick Overlook where exposed rocks along the deep canyon creek seep salts and minerals that attract and nourish local mountain goats.

Dinner: Our final dinner will be at Ed and Mully’s and willl include a classic American style entrée with Vegetarian and Gluten-free entrees available upon prior request.

Day Eight: Monday, July 28 - Breakfast / Independent Departures
Breakfast: Continental breakfast at Kandahar Lodge.

Morning: The program concludes with breakfast, followed by independent departures.
