Description: In 1986, Congress passed an act that created the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. This scenic area was created to protect natural, scenic and cultural resources and to stimulate the economy of the Gorge region. The mission statement within the act called for a lodge and meeting center to be built - Skamania Lodge. Located on 175 wooded acres overlooking the Columbia River Gorge and Cascade Mountains Skamania Lodge is home to original local artwork, ceramics and petroglyph rubbings depicting Native American history of the Columbia River Gorge and to the USDA Forest Service - who has a permanent presence at the Lodge, providing information, interpretive services and occasionally guided hikes along private trails.

Arrival and Check-In / Registration / Welcome Dinner Followed by Orientation

Arrive To: Road Scholar Registration begins at 4:00 PM outside our meeting space. Meet your group leader and receive the program materials.

Dinner: At the resort.

Evening: Meet the other particpants that will be attending this women's only retreat which will encourage relaxation and offer tools for healthy living. Your group leader will provide an overview of the program.

Day Two: Tuesday, April 22 - Water Aerobics / Your Brain On Happiness / Spa Tr...
Water Aerobics / Your Brain On Happiness / Spa Treatment / Healthy Eating

Breakfast: Prior to breakfast, attend an invigorating water aerobics class. Then enjoy breakfast in our meeting space prior to our morning classes.

Morning: Begin your first morning with a class on "Your Brain on Happiness," provided by Wendy Mitchell M.A., of Women's Health Coaching and Judy Zehr, M.S.H.R.M, L.P.C., Clinical Director of Institute for Health Solutions. They will discuss as a team and in separate presentations tools to help participants reflect on their own experience and use what they have learned as a source of personal growth. They will introduce several tools and practices to increase your daily dose of Joy.

Lunch: At the resort.

Afternoon: Enjoy some time to relax and visit with your new found friends or visit the resort's spa. We will pre-schedule your complimentary spa treatment during this time or during this evening's free time. The resort offers some activities including hiking, golfing, tennis and a zip line! There are additional fees for golfing and the zip line. Other activities you may want to explore include the fitness center, indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzis and saunas, and outdoor hot tub with sun deck including an amazing view.

Prior to dinner enjoy a presentation on healthy eating. Topics covered will include Mindful Eating, managing stress to improve weight balance and energy, food myths that can affect your health, food and its affect on your mental concentration, mood and energy levels and the importance of being active to keep you young, agile and strong.

Dinner: At the resort.

Evening: Enjoy some free time to visit the resort's spa. We will pre-schedule your complimentary spa treatment during this time if you have not already had yours. The resort also has a library featuring books, periodicals and board games.

Water Aerobics / Columbia Gorge Water Falls and Hike / Childlike Playfulness / Health Benefits of Wine

Breakfast: Attend a water aerobics class before breakfast, then enjoy a breakfast provided by the resort.

Morning: After breakfast we'll head out on a visit to the Columbia Gorge's famous landmark, Multnomah Falls. Multnomah Falls is the second-tallest year-round waterfall in the nation. The water drops 620 feet from its origin on Larch Mountain. With a local natural history expert as our guide, we will take a walk to see some of the falls in the area under the gorge's lovely forest canopy.

Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Our exploration of the gorge will continue until mid afternoon. Prior to dinner we will have a session on the joy of laughter and re-discovering that child like playfulness we once enjoyed.

Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the resort and remember to eat mindfully!

Evening: A local wine expert will be our guide as she discusses Pacific NW wine varietals and the differences among wines. She will discuss the benefits of wine and show you how to taste like a pro!

Day Four: Thursday, April 24 - Farewell!
Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast at the resort.

Morning: Following breakfast, our program concludes. As you say goodbye to your new Road Scholar friends and start your journey home, we hope you are able to utilize the healthy and relaxing tools you have learned to benefit your everyday life.

Mount St. Helen'sHow often do you have the chance to see an active volcano? Mt. St. Helen's National Volcanic Monument is just a 90-minute drive from Stevenson, Washington and well worth the time. For a unique route, follow Highway 14 east from Stevenson about three miles to the Carson Junction. Turn north on Wind River Highway (State Route 30) and follow the signs north to the Mt. St. Helen's National Volcanic Monument.

Skamania Lodge Golf CourseThis challenging 18-hole, par-70 golf course is beautifully tucked into the resort's 175 wooded acres. Services include a driving range, practice bunker, chipping and putting greens. Our course also features a full-service golf shop, cart rentals plus a new contoured and landscaped putting course. Skamania Lodge Hiking TrailsThe trail system at Skamania Lodge offers over four miles of paths throughout the 175 acres with three distinct trails. There are magnificent views of the surrounding Columbia River Gorge and Cascade Mountains. Skamania Lodge offers a splendid opportunity to sample some of the Pacific Northwest's natural beauty.
Skamania Lodge Zip LineGet ready to fly with the eagles and soar with spirits at the Bridge of the Gods. Only our unique Canopy Zip Line Tour will send you soaring above the scenic Columbia River Gorge. We have six zip lines, four sky bridges and stunning views all nestled together at the world class Skamania Lodge Resort. There is a fee for this activity.
Waterleaf SpaSpa includes signature spa treatments, dry sauna, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, indoor heated pool with professional and caring service. Waterleaf Spa welcomes guests seven days per week. Reservations are encouraged.
