Day Five: Friday, October 24 - Kusadasi, Turkey
Note: This tour involves walking down through the site of Ephesus. The stones underfoot have been worn smooth over time and can be slippery, especially if wet. Comfortable, non-slip are recommended. There are several flights of steep narrow steps within the site of the Roman Houses; you enter at the lower level and exit at the top level, so all flights of steps are up, with narrow walkways and observation platforms.

Breakfast: On board the ship.

Morning: Minerva will arrive in Kusadasi at 8:00. Explore spectacular Ephesus, perhaps the best preserved ancient city in the East Mediterranean. During your walk through this evocative site you'll see imposing structures such as Hadrian's Temple, the Library of Celsus, and the 24,000 seat theater, together with baths and houses which give an excellent insight into Roman life. Next, explore some of the recently excavated Roman houses. Situated behind the shops on the south side of the Street of Kuretes, near the Library of Celsus, are the remains of luxurious private houses thought to have been occupied from the 1st–7th centuries AD. They are known as the ‘Slope Houses’ because of their location on the slopes of Mt Coressus. Although more than 250,000 people inhabited Ephesus, only Roman citizens were allowed to live close to the city centre. The remains of these houses, built on terraces and often comprising two or three stories, reveal traces of fine frescoes and mosaics.

Lunch: Enjoy a typical Turkish lunch at a local restaurant in Kusadasi.

Afternoon: Your afternoon is free to explore the port independently. The Minerva is scheduled to sail at 23:00.

Dinner: On board the ship.

Lodging: Minerva

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day Thirteen: Saturday, November 01 - El Sokhna, Egypt
Note: This excursion is expected to depart at 7:30 and return to Minerva at 16:45. The tours at the Monasteries are conducted by the monks and the areas visited may vary. Your guide will translate at St. Paul's Monastery. Basic toilet facilities are available and there will also be a toilet on each coach. A lunch pack will be provided from the ship. You will be required to remove your shoes at the monasteries; you may wish to bring a pair of socks with you.

Breakfast: On board the ship.

Morning: St. Anthony's Monastery, which lies at the foot of Al-Qalzam Mountain, was founded in 356AD just after the death of St. Anthony; it is the oldest active monastery in the world. The monastery and its neighbor, St. Paul's, are both Coptic Christian monasteries and the oldest inhabited monasteries in Egypt. Hidden deep in the Red Sea Mountains, both still observe rituals that have barely changed in 16 centuries. St. Anthony's Monastery has exceptional wall paintings of the Holy Knights in bright colors. A fortified wall surrounds the Monastery, a protection from raids by nomadic Bedouin tribes. Until recently the only way into the Monastery was by a pulley and winch system. The Monastery of St. Paul probably dates to the fifth century and was founded in memory of one of Egypt's greatest saints, who is said to have lived in a cave, over which the monastery was built - for a period of some 80 years.

Lunch: Lunch bags are provided by the ship during this excursion.

Afternoon: Relax on board the ship as you sail towards Safaga, Egypt

Dinner: On board the ship.

Day Fifteen: Monday, November 03 - Aqaba, Jordan
Note: The terrain is rough and comfortable footwear is essential. Whilst this excursion involves some extensive walking, Petra is truly memorable and whether you attempt the whole site (approximately 8 km/4 hours 15 minutes), or only part of it, you will come away having experienced one of the world’s greatest sites. Day Seventeen: Wednesday, November 05 - Sharm el Sheikh / Cairo, Egypt
Breakfast: On board the ship.

Morning: Disembark the ship and transfer to the airport for an early morning flight to Cairo. Upon arrival, transfer to see the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. The pyramids of Giza are perhaps the only true rival to the Great Sphinx when one thinks of ancient Egypt and its architecture. The Valley of Giza-- with its wonderful monuments-- is truly a marvel of architectural prowess. The three largest pyramids located in the valley consist of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Kafhre and the Pyramid of Menkaura. Each Pyramid is a tomb dedicated to a different king of Egypt. Then descend the plateau to view the Great Sphinx and marvel the presence of the guardian of the necropolis. An imaginary creature that shows the strength of the lion and the intelligence of the human, carved out of one big knoll of rock more than 4600 years old.

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Explore Pyramids of Zoser & Teti: The Pyramid of Djoser (Zoser), or step pyramid is an archeological remain in the Saqqara necropolis, Egypt, northwest of the city of Memphis. It was built for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser by his vizier Imhotep, during the 27th century BC. It is the central feature of a vast mortuary complex in an enormous courtyard surrounded by ceremonial structures and decoration. The Pyramid of Teti is located in the section of the Pyramid of Teti in the Necropolis of Saqqara. Its original height was about 52.5 m. It was poor in its architectural design, but inside it are some Pyramid Texts, inscribed all around the walls of the Burial Chamber and the inner corridors. This pyramid is the second to contain Pyramid Texts after the Pyramid of King Unas, the last king of the Fifth Dynasty.
