Afternoon: Register for rooms after 3:30 PM. Register for your Road Scholar and get your program information folder from 3:00 - 5:00 PM in the Stonewall Jackson Hotel lobby. Enjoy a before-dinner social hour from 5:00 - 6:00 pm in the lounge adjacent to the lobby. This is a great opportunity to meet your coordinator and fellow participants.

Dinner: Dinner in the hotel dining room: Varying each night between chicken, fish, and pasta options, all deliciously prepared by the chef with a salad, complimenting dessert, and beverage choices.

Evening: 0rientation and introductions in the classroom.

Morning: This is a sample schedule. Classes and field trips may be rearranged to accommodate instructors' schedules. Class this morning is "Appalachian Origins"

Lunch: Lunch in the hotel dining room: Will vary each day between lighter meal options such as deli sandwiches, salads, and soups, all served with a delicious and meal-complimenting dessert, and beverage choices.

Afternoon: Begin our study of "The Lees of Virginia." You'll also have time this afternoon to enjoy your hotel's location in downtown Staunton or socialize with new friends.

Day Three: Tuesday, April 15 - Field Trip to Natural Bridge and Lexington

Morning: Field trip begins with trip to Natural Bridge, the famous arch once owned by Thomas Jefferson, and a walk up the gorge carved by Cedar Creek.

Lunch: Lunch at a park overlooking the Maury River

Afternoon: Field trip continues to the town of Lexington for the Lee Chapel and Museum.

Dinner: Dinner in the hotel dining room: Varying each night between chicken, fish, and pasta options, all deliciously prepared by the chef with a salad, complimenting dessert, and beverage choices.

Afternoon: Your time is your own after lunch. There's a lot to explore in Staunton and the Shenandoah Valley. In town there's the Woodrow Wilson Library & Museum, and the Frontier Culture Museum. Not far away are caverns, mountains, museums, and crafts.

Dinner: Dinner in the hotel dining room: Varying each night between chicken, fish, and pasta options, all deliciously prepared by the chef with a salad, complimenting dessert, and beverage choices.

Evening: Lecture begings our study of the Civil War in the Shenandoah Valley.

Day Five: Thursday, April 17 - Field trip to Shenandoah Valley Civil War battles...
Field trip to Shenandoah Valley Civil War battlesites/Port Republic, New Market and the Hall of Valor Museum/Evening entertainment

Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel dining room: Full Hot Southern Breakfast Buffet, includes eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruit, cereal, breakfast pastries, and beverage choices.

Morning: We depart at 9:00 AM for our field trip to Civil War battlesites in the Valley. With our instructor on board, we'll travel by coach/van to battlefield sites at Harrisonburg, Port Republic and New Market. We'll also visit the Hall of Valor Civil War Museum.

Lunch: Picnic lunch on the grounds of the Hall of Valor Museum

Afternoon: Our field trips continues. We'll investigate noorth to Cedar Creek or another battlefield before returning to the hotel in late afternoon.

Dinner: Dinner in the hotel dining room: Varying each night between chicken, fish, and pasta options, all deliciously prepared by the chef with a salad, complimenting dessert, and beverage choices.

Evening: A relaxing and delightful evening of traditional music for your enjoyment.

Day Six: Friday, April 18 -

Morning: After breakfast, enjoy summary classes of Civil War in the Valley and Appalachian Origins. Early lunch at 11:30 AM allows you a head-start on your travel home. Room check-out is 12:00 noon.
