During free time, the Group Leader will often be available to guide informal excursions, activities, or meals not included in the program. You are welcome to join if you wish, with any associated costs (if any) on your own, or explore independently.

Chat with the other Road Scholars and program staff during an informative overview of the program. Experience Oregon’s oldest grape-growing wine region first hand with a fabulous tasting at a local winery. Learn about how the unique terroir of the Rogue Valley produces the conditions for a wide range of popular grape varietals.Lunch: Enjoy a catered lunch, amidst the beauty of the lush vineyards at Grizzly Peak.Afternoon: Off for a delightful trip to explore the charm of Ashland and its nationally-renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival. You’ll get your bearings for our return trip here this evening to see one of the OSF productions.
Next, experience unique, quality chocolates from a local chocolatier! Since 2001, the nationally-renowned Dagoba has been making certified organic chocolates with unexpected ingredients. Try the delicious Chai chocolate bar, the Lemon Ginger or the Lavender Blueberry, all made with sustainably-sourced cacao creating an inimitable balance of flavors.
En route back to the hotel, stop at a local winery and relax in the winery’s stately tasting room as you sip the wines that make it such a popular and respected producer.
Return to the hotel to refresh in preparation for the evening’s performance.Dinner: Back in Ashland, enjoy dinner at Standing Stone Brewing Company. This local favorite takes pride in sustainability and their use of local ingredients. All of their beef, chicken, and eggs are sourced from their own organic, free-range farm one mile from the restaurant. Relax in the fun atmosphere of a working brewery and see the town as it buzzes with a charming mix of visitors and local residents. Enjoy the ambiance and prepare for a wonderful night of theatre!Evening: Named after the OSF founder Angus Bowmer, this theatre opened in 1970 to extend the OSF season by offering an indoor venue. By design, you’ll find there’s no bad seat in the house. Tonight you will be seeing A WRINKLE IN TIME – A beloved children’s classic by Madeleine L’ Engle and adapted by Tracy Young in which a young misfit and her brother set out on an interplanetary adventure to find their missing father.Lodging: Best Western Horizon InnMeals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
