Day Three: Monday, January 20 - Kahakuloa Valley, a traditional Hawaiian place
Note: The road to Kahakuloa is spectacular, but it is winding and bumpy, so if you’re sensitive, you may want to take something to prevent motion sickness. Field trip includes uneven footing and walking over a small suspension bridge (bring jacket, umbrella, sunscreen, camera, water bottle, etc. Wear shoes and clothes which can get wet and muddy, as you may have the opportunity to assist with weeding or planting the loi kalo [taro patch]. You may want to bring a change of clothes.)

Breakfast: Breakfast buffet at leisure- Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant, Lobby level

Morning: Depart in vans for Kahakuloa Valley to experience traditional Hawaiian country living in a spectacular setting. Traditional Hawaiian ways still flourish Kahakuloa Valley; instruction will be by members of families who have lived in the valley for generations. Kahakuloa was a favorite summer vacation retreat for Maui chiefs who loved the sport of lele kawa (cliff diving). They'd swim offshore to the imposing 636-foot rock formation called Kahakuloa Head and jump 200 feet into the surging waves in an awesome display of skill and mettle.

Lunch: Picnic lunch in Kahakuloa

Afternoon: Continuation of field trip. Return to hotel at approximately 4 pm. Free time to enjoy the beach.

Dinner: Dinner on your own to explore local fare.

Evening: Free Evening. You may wish to go to Lahaina for the evening to see a show. We suggest Ulalena at the Maui Myth & Magic Theatre, a poetic and dramatic presentation of Hawaiian mythology and history, featuring chants, songs, acrobatics, and dance. A family-friendly & award-winning show, Ulalena blends traditional theatre with acrobatic feats of strength and beauty.
