Afternoon: Check in at the hotel after 3:00 p.m. A welcome reception and registration will be held in the hotel at 5:00 p.m. followed by orientation in the designated classroom at 5:30 p.m.

Evening: Living History Presentation - Learn about Mary Todd Lincoln through the eyes of her close friend Hannah Shearer. Question and answer time will follow.

Day Two: Monday, September 15 - Gettysburg National Park Visitors Center and Muse...
Gettysburg National Park Visitors Center and Museum/First Day at Gettysburg Battle

Breakfast: Full breakfast buffet in the hotel

Morning: This morning we'll begin by taking a field trip to the Gettysburg National Park Visitors Center and Museum. While there we'll have the chance to watch the 22 minute film "A New Birth Of Freedom" and see the newly restored Cyclorama Painting. This will give you a great overview and understanding of the Civil War and the Battle of Gettysburg. There is free time to browse the gift shop and book store which has an outstanding collection of Civil War related books. Explore the museum, an extensive collection of artifacts found on the Gettysburg battlefield as well as other significant battlefields and historic places of the Civil War.

Lunch: In the hotel

Afternoon: This afternoon we'll discuss the first day of fighting at Gettysburg in class before venturing on a field trip to the sites of the first day's battle where we'll explore McPherson Ridge, Eternal Light Peace Memorial and Barlow's Knoll. Bus will return to hotel.

Dinner: Hotel dining room

Evening: This evening we'll show the movie "The Gettysburg Story," where you will see Gettysburg as it's never been seen before.

Day Three: Tuesday, September 16 - Second day of Battle/Soldiers' National Cemetery/...
Breakfast: Full breakfast buffet in the hotel

Morning: This morning we'll have a class on the Second Day of Battle at Gettysburg followed by field trip to the site where the second day of fighting took place. The trip will be capped off with a walking tour of Cemetery Hill, including Soldiers' National Cemetery.

Lunch: Enjoy the opportunity to sample local fare on your own.

Afternoon: This afternoon we'll embark on a field trip to the Shriver House where you will hear the story of the Battle from the viewpoint of a local family.

Dinner: In the hotel

Evening: This evening we'll enjoy a performance from a folk musician playing Civil War Era music.

Day Four: Wednesday, September 17 - Third Day Battle at Gettysburg
Breakfast: Full breakfast buffet in the hotel

Morning: This morning we'll discuss the Third Day of the Battle at Gettysburg with a morning class followed by a field trip to the site where the third day's fighting took place.

Lunch: Boxed lunch to either take with you or enjoy in the hotel dining room before departing.

YWCA Gettysburg & Adams CountyVisit our local YWCA located just 1 mile from the Gettysburg Hotel at 909 Fairfield Road (Rte 116). This family recreation facility offers a swimming pool and a spacious 12-person whirlpool-there is no towel service so be sure to bring your own towels. You may swim during lap lane/open swim or join an aquatics fitness class- Please check schedule in your hotel classroom for times. Also available is the weight and fitness room, 2 basketball and 2 racquetball courts for your enjoyment. Hours of operation are: Monday thru Friday 4:30 a.m.-10 p.m. (pool opens at 6a.m.). Eisenhower National Historic Site and FarmLocated adjacent to the Gettysburg Battlefield, the farm first served as a weekend retreat during his Presidency and later the only place the President and Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower ever called home. Many programs and activities are offered such as a 15 minute Orientation tour, House tour, Self Guided Walks, Narrated Cell Phone tour (minutes do apply), and Ranger conducted programs throughout the summer. Also stop by the Reception Center to view the Eisenhower Exhibits and the short video about President Eisenhower’s life from a small boy through his 38 years in the military, to his presidency and retirement. Due to a lack of on-site parking and space limitations in the Eisenhower home, visits can only be made by a shuttle bus leaving from the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center. Adams County Historical SocietyLocated in the Samuel Schmucker Hall on the campus of the Lutheran Theological Seminary. It has a museum, library, archives and meeting rooms of the society. Between archives, photographs, books, and objects the Adams County Historical Society estimates that it has over 1,000,000 items in the collection. Hours of operation are: Wednesday thru Saturday 9a.m. to Noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Museum is open by appointment only. Guided Historic Walking ToursDepart from the Gettysburg Hotel with a licensed Town Guide and learn how the battle impacted the town and its people. The David Wills HouseHome of attorney David Wills and where President Lincoln spent the night before delivering his famous Gettysburg Address. The museum includes seven galleries, including the restored office where David Wills coordinated post-battle recovery efforts and the famous Lincoln bedroom where the President finished revising the Gettysburg Address. Adams County WineryA small farm winery since 1975 and is located 10 miles west of Gettysburg at 251 Peach Tree Rd Orrtanna Pa,17353 (717) 334-4631. The Farm Winery is open 6 days a week from 10 am to 6 pm.
