Day One: Sunday, September 28 - Registration, orientation and meet the group over...
Note: Getting on & off hotel shuttle for evening meal.

Afternoon: Arrive on Jekyll Island, GA and check into the Hampton Inn & Suites. Also, check in with the Road Scholar facilitator and you'll receive a program packet containing your name tag, most up-to-date schedule, and other helpful information.

Dinner: Dinner will be at the historic Jekyll Island Club. The Club Hotel is Jekyll Island's only four-star resort and National Historic Landmark. Enjoy elegant surroundings and simple pleasures. Its impressive members included such luminaries as J.P. Morgan, William Rockefeller, Vincent Astor, Joseph Pulitzer, William K. Vanderbilt, and other recognizable names on the roster were Macy, Goodyear and Gould.

Evening: Orientation will take place in the hotels conference room discussing program details and activities. It’s time to start discovering why bridge is a famous game. We’ll give you a little overview of what you can expect over the next few days as well as covering our welcome greetings and introductions in addition to reviewing the up-to-date daily schedule. We will also discuss responsibilities and review safety guidelines according to emergency procedures with questions and answers as needed. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Day Two: Monday, September 29 - Intermediate and Duplicate Bridge lecture, tourne...
Intermediate and Duplicate Bridge lecture, tourney and supervised play.

Breakfast: Choose from a variety of delicious breakfast items at the Hampton Inn’s Hot Breakfast Bar, including: freshly made waffles, hearty oatmeal with toppings, and enjoy all the juice or coffee you can drink. Muffins, Danish, bagels, yogurt and fresh fruit are always available. Seasonal items may vary from day to day.

Morning: Today we study: Notrump Bidding Techniques, Defense and Play. We’ll play, analyze and discuss presorted bridge hands, with minimum lecture. We’ll analyze options such as balanced raises, the Stayman convention and Jacoby transfers. Defensive leads and interference will be evaluated. Your Intermediate bridge class will be taught by a Bronze Life Master

Lunch: A healthy lunch will we served at the hotel.

Afternoon: Play in a mini-bridge tournament with your new friends. You and your partner will play hands based on the building blocks of the morning’s material. Following play, we will analyze the hands together. After the enjoy your free time by take an independent stroll along the boardwalk from the pool area to the beach, appreciating the protected ancient oak trees of the Maritime Forest along the way. This is a great way to share a beautiful experience with your new friends and get to know them better!

Dinner: Enjoy a plated dinner served at the hotel.

Evening: Shuffle, play and relax with no set agenda. Consider how today’s lesson fits into your style of play. Your instructor will be on hand to answer questions. We wish to help you achieve your goals in the fascinating world of bridge.

Intermediate and Duplicate Bridge lecture, tourney and supervised play.

Breakfast: Choose from a variety of delicious breakfast items at the Hampton Inn’s Hot Breakfast Bar.

Morning: We will continue building confidence as we explore: How to compete in the Bidding? How can you and your partner communicate and compete when the opponents open the bidding? We will consider overcalls and learn how to use takeout doubles, negative doubles and re-doubles.

Lunch: A healthy lunch will we served at the hotel.

Afternoon: Mini-bridge tournament with your new friends in a relaxed and social environmet.We’ll play and analyze hands based on the morning’s subject matter. Our mini-tournament will introduce us to some facets of duplicate bridge.

Dinner: Enjoy dinner at a favorite local restaurant.

Evening: Shuffle, play and relax with no set agenda. Consider the building blocks of today’s activity. It’s a great opportunity for questions.

Day Four: Wednesday, October 01 - Defensive play – Free Afternoon - Evening On Your...
Breakfast: Choose from a variety of delicious breakfast items at the Hampton Inn’s Hot Breakfast Bar.

Morning: This morning we focus on: Taking Extra Defensive Tricks. We’ll be alert for our partner’s signals such as attitude, count and suit preference. We will evaluate the impact of opening leads between no-trump and suit contracts. Bridge is a Partnership Game Opening so lead considerations are important; eliminate the bad leads and choose from the rest!

Lunch: A healthy lunch will we served at the hotel.

Afternoon: This is the ideal time to discover the island’s pristine beaches and nature reserves, or pay a visit to the historic district. The conference room will also be open for participants who would prefer to play bridge.

Dinner: One dinner is open for you to explore on your own at award winning local restaurants.

Evening: Enjoy your free evening or bridge play with your new friends in the conference room.

Day Five: Thursday, October 02 - Intermediate and Duplicate Bridge lecture, tourne...
Intermediate and Duplicate Bridge lecture, tourney and supervised play.

Breakfast: Choose from a variety of delicious breakfast items at the Hampton Inn’s Hot Breakfast Bar.

Morning: Today we continue: How to Compete in the Bidding? We’ll play and analyze preemptive and weak two bids as well as the strong two club opener. We’ll evaluate actions available to our partner when we preempt. We’ll have some fun playing Michaels and Unusual No-trump hands.

Lunch: A healthy lunch will we served at the hotel.

Afternoon: Mini-bridge tournament. We will continue to fine-tune what we learned through play and discussion. After the tourney, spend your free time exploring Jekyll Island.

Dinner: Enjoy a plated dinner served at the hotel.

Evening: Meet in the conference room for supervised play. During the evenings free-play participants will get a chance to discover how todays lesson benefits their play. Your instructor will be on hand to answer questions.

Day Six: Friday, October 03 - Intermediate and Duplicate Bridge lecture.
Breakfast: Choose from a variety of delicious breakfast items at the Hampton Inn’s Hot Breakfast Bar, including: freshly made waffles, hearty oatmeal with toppings, and enjoy all the juice or coffee you can drink. Muffins, Danish, bagels, yogurt and fresh fruit are always available. Seasonal items may vary from day to day.

Morning: Review and farewell. Bridge is a lifelong game. There are millions of possible hands, each offering its own mystery. You now possess the knowledge and confidence to play with anyone playing the Standard American system. No lunch is included with this program. General OverviewJekyll Island's Historic District has several speciality shops as well as the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, once the clubhouse for many of America's elite business men. Other areas of interest located near Jekyll Island are St. Simons Island, home to several historic places including Fort Frederica, Bloody Marsh Battle site, etc. There are also other interesting islands located near Jekyll Island including Sapelo Island where you will find a plantation once owned by R. J. Reynolds and Cumberland Island home to many wild horses. Other areas of interest near Jekyll Isalnd include Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation, an old rice plantation and Brunswick Georgia which has many historic buildings and landmarks as well as several antique shops. Jekyll Island is located approximately one hour south of Historic Savannah Georgia.
