Day One: Sunday, March 16 - Arrival/Orientation and Dinner with Local Author ...
Afternoon: Welcome to Macon, Georgia! Check-in begins at 4 p.m. Road Scholar registration will take place in the lobby. If you are early you could check with the front desk to see if your room is available before 4 p.m. Also, check in with the Road Scholar facilitator and you'll receive a program packet containing your name tag, most up-to-date schedule, and other helpful information.

Dinner: A delicious dinner will be served in a comfortable setting at the Marriott Macon City Center.

Evening: After dinner, we will be going over the week's schedule and having orientation - get to know your facilitator and fellow Road Scholar participants. A local author will be our guest to introduce the week's events and local culture. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding. Get to know your fellow participants and build new friendships by taking advantage of the Concierge Lounge with evening hors d'oeuvres, dessert, late night snack and complimentary non-alcoholic beverages.

Morning: Start your adventure in Macon with a journey to the ancient past and witness the 17,000 years of Native American Indian heritage at the Ocmulgee National Monument mounds and lodge.

Lunch: Get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Grand Opera House, including an exclusive lunch and backstage tour!

Afternoon: Have an adventure continuing your tour of Historic Macon visiting the Beautiful St. Joseph's Cathedral, Cannon Ball House and more!

Juliette, Historic Jarrell Plantation with Peter Bonner and the Whistle Stop café.

Morning: Browse around all that charming Juliette has to offer, where the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" was filmed.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch at the iconic Whistle Stop Café.

Afternoon: Visit the Historic Jarrell Plantation. Nestled in the red clay hills of Georgia, this cotton plantation was owned by a single family for more than 140 years. It survived Gen. Sherman’s “March to the Sea,” typhoid fever, Reconstruction, the cotton boll weevil, the advent of steam power and a transition from farming to forestry. In 1974, family descendants donated the grounds to establish Jarrell Plantation as a State Historic Site. Plus - as a special treat - relive an historical & hysterical presentation by Peter Bonner as he shares with us "history that won't wash off!"

Visit the Old Govenor's Mansion, Georgia's Antebellum Capital and the Women of Ireland!

Note: Step onto and off of the bus; moderate walking available around campus

Breakfast: Road Scholar participants will enjoy access to the Concierge Lounge with privileges including a hot buffet breakfast and in-room WIFI access.

Morning: We will have a guided exploration of the Old Governor's Mansion in Milledgeville, GA exclusively for Road Scholar participants. The Mansion is designated as a National Historic Landmark.

Lunch: Enjoy a wide variety of choices from the MAX at Georgia College. During lunch, your choices include a traditional family style menu with plenty of options to choose from. You will also have unlimited access to all of the dining stations, including the made-to-order deli. The MAX proudly features several vegan/vegetarian dining options. In the mood for something different? Wander over to the international line which boasts a constantly changing menu from the world’s best cuisine!

Afternoon: Take the city excursion! Led by an expert tour-guide, you will visit historic sites in Milledgeville - the Antebellum Capital of the South. Learn about the Old Capital Building, St. Stephen's Church and the Sallie Ellis Davis House.

Dinner: Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Evening: Be entranced by a command performance of the Women of Ireland at the Grand Opera House. After the performance, take advantage of the Concierge Lounge with evening hors d'oeuvres, dessert, late night snack and complimentary non-alcoholic beverages.

Day Five: Thursday, March 20 - Exclusive tour of the Hay House with Kim Poovey a...
Exclusive tour of the Hay House with Kim Poovey and special visit to the Sidney Lanier Cottage; plus lunch in a historic home and farm-to-table dinner!

Note: Step onto and off of the bus; moderate walking available around the Hay House grounds; entering and exiting historic buildings

Breakfast: Road Scholar participants will enjoy access to the Concierge Lounge with privileges including a hot buffet breakfast and in-room WIFI access.

Morning: Step back in time with a guided tour of Historic Macon’s 1840 Victorian cottage, renowned as the birthplace of poet and musician, Sidney Clopton Lanier (1842-1881), who penned “The Marshes of Glynn” and “Song of the Chattahoochee”.

Lunch: Enjoy a delightful lunch hosted in one of Macon's historic homes.

Afternoon: Get the Behind the Scenes Tour of the Hay House, which covers all levels of the home including a special trip to the cupola and widow walk. In addition, tour the grounds and gardens surrounding the house. Plus - enjoy a special guest speaker who will visit with us in the music room of the Hay House! Kim Poovey is an author and actress who has regaled Road Scholar participants - and audiences throughout the southeast - with her historic reenactments.

Dinner: Wrap-up the week and deeply enjoy your final evening with truly local cuisine from the unique farm to table dinner experience served in the beautiful dining room of the Hay House!

Evening: An evening of interactive entertainment at the Hay House will allow everyone to spend time with their new found friends. Once we return to the hotel, take advantage of the Concierge Lounge with evening hors d'oeuvres, dessert, late night snack and complimentary non-alcoholic beverages.

Day Six: Friday, March 21 - Cherry Blossom Ceremony

Morning: Participants have the option to tour the Master Gardeners of Central Georgia Spring Plant Preview hosted by the Macon State Farmer's Market. Afterwards, we will visit the Cherry Blossom Ceremony in Central City Park at noon. We hope you have enjoyed this special new learning experience and will return for other rewarding Road Scholar adventures in the future. Individual departures from the hotel with check out no later than 11 a.m. Please be in touch via the Road Scholar Social Network, where you can share memories, pictures, and comments.
