Day Two: Monday, February 10 - Coral Gables and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
Breakfast: Our breakfast at the hotel includes a well balanced selection of hot and cold items, coffee, and tea.

Morning: Drive and walk through Miami neighborhood Coral Gables with expert commentary. “City Beautiful” Coral Gables is the product of the Florida land boom of the 1920s and is home to landmarks such as the Biltmore Hotel, George Merrick House, and Venetian Pool.

Lunch: Lunch at the Vizcaya Café.

Afternoon: Stroll the impressive Vizcaya Museum & Gardens and see the residence that industrialist James Deering (1859-1925) had built as his winter residence. Deering was a retired millionaire afflicted with pernicious anemia when he decided he needed a home in South Florida to restore his health. That home grew into a 180-acre estate centered on a mansion that has been described as the finest private house ever built in America. A docent will lead us through this estate that required 1,000 workers including stonecutters, stonemasons, and others from the local area as well as craftsmen from the northeast U.S. and Europe for its construction. In addition to the architecturally significant main house -- modeled after an Italian villa -- with its 34 decorated rooms, Vizcaya retains ten acres of formal gardens and diverse collections of European antiquities, commissioned American art, and century-old plants.

Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the hotel

Evening: One of city's leading historians, Seth Bramson, will talk about the history of greater Miami and its diverse neighborhoods..
