Day One: Sunday, April 27 - Registration/Orientation & Introductions
Afternoon: Hotel check-in begins at 3 PM. Road Scholar on site registration anytime between 4:30 - 5:15 PM.

Dinner: Dinner at Golden Goose Restaurant, adjacent to the hotel. Participants will have multiple entrees to choose from with typical rotating selections to include Chicken Marsala, fish, prime rib, meat loaf, pastas, vegetarian options, etc.

Evening: Following dinner, introductions and program orientation. Meet your fellow participants, review the schedule, and get excited for the week ahead!

Day Two: Monday, April 28 - Art Workshops/"Movies and Magic"
Breakfast: Breakfast at the Golden Goose Restaurant. Multiple hot entrees to choose from including bacon and eggs, french toast and sausage, fruit bowl and yogurt, oatmeal, etc.

Morning: We begin the workshop with a discussion to determine participants' watercolor experience, if any, and expectations for the program. It is normal for participants to have a varied level of experience and your instructor will make sure to reach out to each participant on an individual basis throughout the workshop.

After a discussion on various approaches to a well-designed painting (which applies to all levels) the more experienced painters will be given an exercise suited for their level of experience. The instructor will then focus on the basic techniques of watercolor for those interested in reviewing or learning these techniques for the first time.

There will be a brief discussion on how to determine the quality of brushes, paper, and paints. Various basic techniques will be taught, such as; wet into wet, flat wash and graded wash and more.

Lunch: Lunch at the Golden Goose Restaurant. Multiple entrees to choose from including hot and cold sandwiches (vegetarian option daily), 1/2 sandwich and soup, chef or spinach salad, etc.

Afternoon: Discussion focuses on the color wheel, color harmony, optical vibration (used by the Masters). Continue with the technique lessons of the morning session.

Those learning the basic techniques will have a completed painting at the end of the day, which will include the various techniques learned that day.

Dinner: Dinner at Golden Goose Restaurant, adjacent to the hotel. Participants will have multiple entrees to choose from with typical rotating selections to include Chicken Marsala, fish, prime rib, meat loaf, pastas, vegetarian options, etc.

Evening: Enjoy "Movies and Magic," a presentation about the film industry and its history in Sedona. Did you know that Elvis Presley made a movie in Sedona? Remember Jeff Chandler as Cochise in Broken Arrow with Jimmy Stewart?

Day Three: Tuesday, April 29 - Art Workshops both In and Out-of-Doors/Individual...
Art Workshops both In and Out-of-Doors/Individual Time for Project Work

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Golden Goose Restaurant. Multiple hot entrees to choose from including bacon and eggs, french toast and sausage, fruit bowl and yogurt, oatmeal, etc.

Morning: Participate in the morning art workshop for discussions on how to do landscape painting with emphasis on painting rocks, trees, shrubs, water, and sky. We will discussions how to approach a landscape painting.

Lunch: Lunch on your own in Sedona. Your coordinator will provide you with a list of nearby restaurants.

Afternoon: After lunch, you'll have a free afternoon to explore Sedona on your own. Visit more of the world-class galleries, take a hike, sketch or paint in the out-of-doors. The classroom will be available for anyone wanting to spend more time on their projects.

Dinner: Dinner at the Thai Spices Restaurant. The restaurant serves up delicious, perfectly flavored rice, noodle and mixed veggie and meat dishes family style in a friendly atmosphere.

Evening: After dinner you have a free evening to work on art projects, explore more of Sedona or relax.

Day Four: Wednesday, April 30 - Plein Air Workshop/Visit Sedona Galleries/Native ...
Breakfast: Breakfast at the Golden Goose Restaurant. Multiple hot entrees to choose from including bacon and eggs, french toast and sausage, fruit bowl and yogurt, oatmeal, etc.

Morning: Continue your work of the prior day as well as learn additional techniques including texturing, lifting, and charging in color for richer darks. Also, spend more on composition.

Lunch: Lunch at the Golden Goose cafe.

Afternoon: We will take a field trip today for our first plein air session. We will discuss light and shadows, atmospheric and aerial perspective and, of course, allow plenty of time to paint with instructor guidance, take photos or just sit and take in the beauty of Sedona.

Following our painting time, we will visit a few of Sedona's famed galleries and participants will have the opportunity to share critiques of various works with your instructor.

Dinner: Dinner at Golden Goose Restaurant, adjacent to the hotel. Participants will have multiple entrees to choose from with typical rotating selections to include Chicken Marsala, fish, prime rib, meat loaf, pastas, vegetarian options, etc.

Evening: Hear a presentation on Native American art by a former Native American museum director.

Day Five: Thursday, May 01 - Outdoor Painting Workshop/Free Afternoon
Breakfast: Breakfast at the Golden Goose Restaurant. Multiple hot entrees to choose from including bacon and eggs, french toast and sausage, fruit bowl and yogurt, oatmeal, etc.

Morning: Muddy watercolors? Yuck! What causes 'mud' on your piece and how to avoid it or correct it. More information on how to create luminous paintings, more Basic Techniques, including layering, glazing, mixing colors on palette virus paper, and mingling paint on paper.

Lunch: Lunch at the Golden Goose Restaurant. Multiple entrees to choose from including hot and cold sandwiches (vegetarian option daily), 1/2 sandwich and soup, chef or spinach salad, etc.

Afternoon: On our second plein air field trip, there will be an on site discussion on how to paint Sedona's unique red rock landscape.

Dinner: Dinner at Golden Goose Restaurant, adjacent to the hotel. Participants will have multiple entrees to choose from with typical rotating selections to include Chicken Marsala, fish, prime rib, meat loaf, pastas, vegetarian options, etc.

Evening: After dinner, our classroom will be available for students to finish up their watercolor projects.

Day Six: Friday, May 02 - Participant's Art Show/Departure
Breakfast: Breakfast at the Golden Goose Cafe. Multiple hot entrees to choose from including bacon and eggs, french toast and sausage, fruit bowl and yogurt, oatmeal, etc.

Morning: After breakfast is the culmination of the week: The Participants' Art Show. You will have an opportunity to show your work, talk about your techniques, etc. as you share your week's experiences with group members and see their work.

Following the show, there will be a brief program wrap-up and fond farewells. Hotel checkout by 11:00 AM. Happy Painting!
