Day Three: Sunday, November 17 - Delhi, India 
Breakfast: Breakfast in hotel dining room.

Morning: In 1639, the Mughal emperor Shahjahan built a new, walled city in Delhi that served as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1649 to 1857. After the British East India Company had gained control of much of India during the 18th and 19th centuries, Calcutta became the capital both under Company rule and under the British Raj, until George V announced in 1911 that it was to move back to Delhi. A new capital city, New Delhi, was built to the south of the old city during the 1920s. Start your full day field trip by exploring the Raj Ghat, drive past the Red Fort, enjoy a rickshaw ride in Chandni Chowk, and a visit to the immense Jama Masjid (Great Mosque).

Lunch: Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Visit the Gandhi Smriti where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. Take in a lecture by a guest professor entitled "The Relevance of Gandhi in Today's World." British-built New Delhi offers a fascinating contrast: here, the dusty alleys are replaced by broad, arrow-straight boulevards and the monuments of India's colonial history. Drive past Government Buildings and the mighty arch of India Gate, designed by Edwin Lutyens in the 1920s.

Morning: Coach transfer to Agra. En route, enjoy a lecture about Indian History and also visit Sikandra (Akbar's Tomb). In 1506, Sultan Sikandar Lod moved his capital from Delhi to Agra but it was under the Mughal emperors from 1526 to 1658 that the city achieved fame and glory. Since Agra (known then as Akbarabad) was one of the most important cities in India under the Mughals, it witnessed a great deal of ambitious and splendid growth. Babar, the founder of the Mughal dynasty, laid out the first formal Persian garden on the banks of the Yamuna river and his grandson Akbar raised the towering ramparts of the Great Red Fort. Shah Jahan, known for his keen interest in architecture, gave Agra its most prized monument, the Taj Mahal.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch at the Country Inn in Kosi.

Afternoon: Arrive in Agra and check-in to the hotel. Join a local expert to learn about the Mughal history as you cross the Yamuna River to watch the sun set over the Taj Mahal from Mehtab Bagh.

Day Five: Tuesday, November 19 - Agra, India 
Breakfast: Breakfast in hotel dining room.

Morning: Enjoy the breath taking views of the Taj Mahal at sunrise. Shah Jahan was the son of Jehangir, the fourth Mughal emperor of India and the grandson of Akbar the Great. In 1612 he married the Persian princess Mumtaz Mahal and on becoming Emperor in 1628 bestowed his beloved wife with the title of Mumtaz Mahal, "Jewel of the Palace." In 1631, Mumtaz Mahal died in childbirth and Shah Jahan promised her that he would never remarry and would build the richest mausoleum ever seen over her grave. He proved to be a man of his word and it took 22 years and the labor of 22,000 workers to construct the monument. When Shah Jahan died in 1666, his body was placed in a tomb next to the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal and this magnificent monument came to be known as "Taj Mahal." Later explore the Itmad-Ud-Daulah's tomb, popularly known as the "Baby Taj." Also explore the Agra Fort. Originally planned as an impregnable military structure by Akbar, the Arga Fort, over a period of time, acquired all the elegance, lavishness, and majesty of an imperial palace.

Lunch: Observe a cooking demonstration in a private home and then enjoy the meal specially prepared for you.

Afternoon: Enjoy some free time to relax or explore on your own.

Morning: Coach transfer to Jaipur. En route, visit Fatehpur Sikri, which served as the Mughal Empire's capital from 1571 until 1585. Though the court took 15 years to build, it was abandoned after only 14 years because the water supply was unable to sustain the growing population. The complex of buildings, including the royal palaces and courts, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Afternoon: Popularly known as the Pink City, Jaipur is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber, Jaipur is a city of magnificent palaces built from rose colored stone. Visit the opulent Maharaja's City Palace, one of the most magnificent of these royal buildings. Also, explore Jantar Mantar, the Royal Observatory, and learn how the huge stone instruments were devised to study the movements of the sun, moon, and planets, and remain incredibly accurate today.

Morning: This morning, discover the 11th century Amber Fort, situated seven miles North of Jaipur and established as the original capital of Rajasthan, six centuries before the construction of Jaipur. Riding on elephants or in jeeps, approach the Fort as it rises majestically on the slope of a hill. Afterwards, enjoy a photo stop at the Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds).

Lunch: Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: After lunch, transfer to the airport for a flight to Mumbai and embark the MV Aegean Odyssey.

Dinner: Dinner on board.

Evening: Road Scholar orientation to the ship in the "Observation Lounge."

Note: If the Prince of Wales Museum is closed, the award-winning Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum will be substituted.

Breakfast: Breakfast on board.

Morning: Trade has always been at the heart of Mumbai and today it is at the center of India's remarkable economic renaissance. It was made the headquarters of the British East India Company in 1687 but it was the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 that transformed the city - then known as Bombay - into one of the world's great trading centers. New York may be known as the city that never sleeps but Mumbai never even stops to take a breath: this truly is a vibrant and dynamic place. Your exploration of Mumbai will include visits to the main sights including Mani Bhavan, a museum that was once the residence of Mahatma Gandhi, the Victorian architectural monuments of the British Empire, the Prince of Wales Museum and the Gateway of India.
