Afternoon: RETREAT CENTER CHECK-IN AND PROGRAM REGISTRATION: As you enter Black Rock Retreat's Maranatha Retreat Center come on over to the Road Scholar table located in the center of the spacious lobby. Registration will take place from 4PM-5:30PM. You will receive your room assignment and all needed information for the program at that time. Black Rock's beautiful swimming pool will be open and available for you use from noon until 5PM. You are welcome to enjoy this facility prior to registration/check-in or afterwards as time allows.

Dinner: Dinner is a buffet-style meal served in the Maranatha Retreat Center Dining Room. Our guests will meet in the Maranatha Retreat Center lobby for meal procedures. our goal is to serve our guests healthy and delicious food featuring local tastes and recipes.

Evening: ORIENTATION/GETTING TO KNOW YOU: Beginning at 7PM in our private meeting room we'll have an overview of the program ahead and review the up-to-date schedule, responsibilities, safety, guidelines, emergency procedures and any other administrative issues. (Please be aware that local circumstances may require adjusting program elements. In the event of changes we will notify you as quickly as possible. We appreciate your understanding.)

We will also spend some time becoming better acquainted with participants and program staff. Find out what you have in common beyond an interest in canoeing.

TEAMBUILDING INITIATIVES: Following introductions we will be lead by the program staff in various team building initiatives that will be fun for both generations. The evening ends with a delightful Ice Cream Sundae Bar!

You are about to embark on a new canoeing adventure in lovely and peaceful Lancaster County. Led by experts, you and your grandchild will not only learn how to canoe together but you'll experience the plentiful flora and fauna of the area and get a taste of local history and culture.

Basic Canoe Instruction, Picnic Lunch, Flat Water Experience and Nature Observation at MUDDY RUN STATE PARK

Breakfast: Buffet-style meal served in the Maranatha Retreat Center Dining Room.

Morning: MUDDY RUN PARK: Following breakfast, we will travel to Muddy Run Park located in rural Southern Lancaster County. Utilizing the 100 acre lake, experts will lead basic canoe instruction, including strokes, techniques and safety. This lesson will be beneficial for beginners and will also be a good refresher for guests with previous canoeing experience.

Lunch: Guests will enjoy a delicious boxed lunch prepared by Black Rock Retreat Food Service at the picnic are within the 700 acre park.

Afternoon: MUDDY RUN CANOEING CONTINUES: We will continue to practice our canoeing skills on the Muddy Run Lake. In addition we will venture further out onto the lake while our expert guides highlight the bountiful wildlife that thrives in the habitat at Muddy Run Park. Participants will also be given the opportunity to explore the various inlets and an island at their leisure.

Dinner: Buffet-style meal served in the Maranatha Retreat Center Dining Room.

Evening: CREEK HIKE: Outdoor Education Directors will lead us to the Octoraro Creek which runs through Black Rock Retreat. Guests will be wading in the knee deep water as we look for and discuss the fascinating creatures that live there.

NIGHT SWIM: End the day with a refreshing swim in Black Rock Retreat's in-ground pool.

Canoe Trip on the Susquehanna River, Animal Program and Make-Your-Own Soft Pretzels

Breakfast: Buffet-style meal served in the Maranatha Retreat Center Dining Room.

Morning: SUSQUEHANNA RIVER FIELD TRIP: Progressing from the flat-water canoe experience of the day before, we will travel to the picturesque Susquehanna River to experience a moving waterway.

Lunch: Guests will enjoy a delicious boxed lunch provided by Black Rock Retreat Food Service.

Afternoon: SUSQUEHANNA RIVER CANOEING CONTINUED: As we travel down the river we will make note of the natural and cultural history. With local expert we will search for the mysterious petroglyphs along the way and observe the flora and fauna of the area. Possible stop at the Indian Steps Museum.

Dinner: Buffet-style meal served in the Maranatha Retreat Center Dining Room.

Evening: MEET THE ANIMALS: Guests will enjoy a "Meet the Animals" program in Black Rock Retreat's new Nature Center. We will experience the fun of making our own soft pretzel and eating the fruit of our labors!

Morning: LOW ROPES COURSE: Grandparents and grandchildren will enjoy working together on Black Rock Retreat's Low Ropes Course.

Afternoon: FREE TIME: Guests will enjoy an afternoon to relax by the beautiful zero-entry pool or to perfect their shots on the archery range or challenge themselves on the popular zipline (ages 12+).

Dinner: Buffet-style meal served in the Maranatha Retreat Center Dining Room.

Evening: EVENING NATURE HIKE: Explore Black Rock's 100 acres in a guided evening hike ending at a campfire. Guests will have the opportunity to make old-fashioned S'mores in this peaceful setting.
