- St Malo for Mont St Michel, Brittany.
Note:
Steep climb in old town from town to Abbey, steps in Abbey. Walking 21/2 hours on some cobbles. Swan Hellenic rated 3.20-30 minute walk from coach park to public shuttle bus stop into Mont St Michel.

The ship docks at St Malo at 9:00am. The ship is berthed in the inner harbour an easy walk into the old town and ramparts for independent exploration.

Afternoon:
Take an afternoon field trip to the unique fortified abbey of Mont St Michel built on the summit of a rocky tidal island with access by causeway at low tide. Guided tour of the Abbey which was a Benedictine monastery and then, 73 years after the French Revolution a political prison. Free time for independent exploration. Journey of 1 hour each way. 6 hours in total.

Minerva docks at La Pallice-La Rochelle at 8:00am. Situated in a picturesque bay, the port is naturally sheltered by the Islands of Ré an Oléron. Field trip from the Gateway to Cognac. La Rochelle is the main port of call for the town of Cognac approximately 80 km. The Charente river region features some of the world-famous vineyards of Cognac as well as ancient towns studded with Romanesque treasures. In Cognac, you will visit the famous Hennessy cellars, crossing the Charente River by boat to step into the distillation area; here you will be introduced to the grand traditions involved in the manufacture of cognac including the swan’s neck-shaped alembic stills that are used to this day. Enjoy a sample of Hennessy’s cognac. After lunch in a local restaurant visit the town of Saintes, a former Roman city and an important town on the Pilgrims’ route to Santiago de Compostela, including a photo stop at the ruins of the Roman amphitheatre.

Discover the attractive regions of Pomerol and St Emilion, heartland of the Merlot grape, which produces delicious, rich, round wines. The vines on the “hill with a thousand châteaux”, reach right up to St Emilion’s 13th century town walls and surrounding moat, dug out of solid rock. You will visit the main monuments of the town: the collegiate church and its magnificent cloister from the 12th century, the ramparts and the market place. Beside the church, the catacombs include a charnel house and a number of sepulchres from the 11th and 12th centuries. During your walking tour you will also see the Cadene Gate and the King’s Tower. Enjoy some free time in the village before visiting a nearby château where you will be guided through the wine cellars and offered a tasting of two local wines.

Guernsey is second-largest of the several Channel Islands located 30 miles west of France's coast of Normandy and 75 miles south of Weymouth on the south coast of England. It is a British Crown Dependency but with its own sense of independence and own currency, A tender service will operate at during the afternoon from the ship to St Peter Port for those who wish to explore independently. The town centre and 12th century parish church of St Peter are within easy walking distance of the quay

Drive through the Auge region, characterised by fields, wooded valleys, cider orchards and dairy farms, manor houses and chateaux to Breuil en Auge, to visit the historic slate-roofed Château du Breuil and its copper distillery. The château dates from the 16th-17th centuries and has been home to noteworthy families over the years. You can also sample some calvados, apple brandy aged in oak casks in the cellar of the castle, before returning to Honfleur. In Honfleur visit St Catherine’s Church, a 15th century church constructed entirely of wood by carpenters from a local shipyard; the interior ressembles an upturned boat. Stroll past the tile-covered salt warehouses, the old port and its picturesque quayside and the Lieutenancy – the 16th century house in which the King’s lieutenant, the Governor of Honfleur, once lived
