Evening: Program orientation and introductions in hotel meeting room from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, followed by an hour-long video about Georgia O'Keeffe.

O'Keeffe was a major figure in American art from the 1920s. She received widespread recognition for her technical contributions, as well as for challenging the boundaries of modern American artistic style. She is chiefly known for paintings of flowers, rocks, shells, animal bones, and landscapes in which she synthesized abstraction and representation.

Her paintings present crisply contoured forms that are replete with subtle tonal transitions of varying colors. She often transformed her subject matter into powerful abstract images.

O'Keeffe played a central role in bringing an American art style to Europe at a time when the majority of influence flowed in the opposite direction. This feat enhanced her art-historical importance given that she was one of few women to have gained entry to this level of professional influence.

She found artistic inspiration in the rural Southwest, particularly in New Mexico, where she settled late in life.

The Museum of International Folk Art houses the world's largest collection of traditional folk art from around the world. The collection is displayed beautifully, and visitors are always amazed at the scope of the Museum and how much fun it is to go there.

The Museum of Indian Arts & Culture presenta the diverse stories that illuminate the art and history of Native America through two millennia. Many Native American tribes are represented with art forms that are hundreds of years old to contemporary pieces.

You'll see stunning jewelry, pottery, rugs, carvings, and so much more!

Afternoon: Bus departs at 1:15 PM for the hotel.

From 2:00 until 4:00 PM, you'll have a presentation about the Santa Fe Opera's history and learn all about the performance you'll see this evening, "La Traviata." Honoring the bicentennial of Verdi's birth, the Santa Fe Opera revives one of his most popular operas. Glamour and gaiety are on full display in director-designer Laurent Pelly's vision of the Parisian demimonde, but so is a much darker side. While elegant gowns and jewels create a glittering tableau, the partygoers of "La Traviata" inhabit a cynical world of power relations.

You'll have some rest time from 4:00 to 5:00 PM.

Dinner: Dinner at the hotel from 5:00-6:00 PM. Dinner is early tonight as the opera begins at 8:00 PM.

Evening: Bus departs at 6:15 PM for the Santa Fe Opera performance of "La Traviata."

Making her Santa Fe Opera debut as Violetta is American soprano Brenda Rae, who has generated excitement in starring roles in Europe. Tenor Michael Fabiano is Alfredo, Violetta's lover. Bus returns to the hotel late!
