While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Close [ x ]
Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Welcome to the Audubon Center and Sanctuary, and an introduction to the week's explorations.
Breakfast:
Continental breakfast with cereal, hot dishes and more provided by the Hampton Inn.
Morning:
Discover the exhibits and trails of the Audubon Center and Sanctuary of Jamestown, which will be our headquarters as we learn about insects, birds, salamanders, and more. Get a chance to look at some of the books, nets and other tools we will be using through the week.
Lunch:
Lunch and relaxation. Lunch with selections specially prepared to offer a fun and healthy meal for everybody. Enjoy it outside or on the third floor "Sky Room" of the Nature Center, with a view that often will include ospreys and eagles hunting over Big Pond.
Afternoon:
Introduction to Field Ecology. Discover some of the most common insects and spiders to be found in local fields through a quick introduction. We will then teach the basics of using an insect net before heading out to catch, identify and release some of the local insects. We'll be using insect field guides, nets, and magnifiers in our quest to identify the local insects, while our naturalists add interesting facts and stories about what is found.
Afternoon:
We'll return to the hotel and dive into journalling with the grandchildren. Journals are a map of our experiences for the week. We'll learn how to incorporate our scientific finds of the day with the experiences and memories of working with grandparents. As we finish journals, there will be free time to enjoy the pool, lawn games or just relax.
Dinner:
Dinner will be at a nearby local restaurant, followed by movie night at the hotel. We will provide a short movie that has to do with the day and popcorn.

We'll take a brown bag lunch and get an early start to Kinzua Dam and Jake's Rocks.
Afternoon:
Jake's Rocks is an amazing rock formation in the Allegheny National Forest that is home to one of our most unique ecosystems. These huge rocks are sometimes as large as buildings. Grandparents and grandchildren will split up for awhile to explore the rocks, overlooks and trails with guides. Afterward, we'll join together again to share what we discovered.
Dinner:
We'll journal for awhile on our return, then have some free time before heading out for a campfire dinner at Audubon.

Chautauqua Institution
Education, religion, arts and recreation, all available daily. Chautauqua is a community of people seeking life-long learning and growth. Many of the visitors who return to Chautauqua year after year describe it as an experience rather than a vacation -- a place for renewal. The Chautauqua Institution was founded on the belief that everyone “has a right to be all that he can be -- to know all that he can know.” The experiences come in many forms. A dramatic lakeside setting and the beauty of its National Historic Landmark architecture (it was designated a National Historic Landmark June 30, 1989) make the Chautauqua Institution a thriving community where visitors come to find intellectual and spiritual growth and renewal. 716-357-6200

Fenton History Center
Reuben E. Fenton was Governor of New York State from 1865 to 1869. He also served in the US Congress (1853-1864) and US Senate 1869-1875). As one of the founders of the Republican Party, he was a close political associate of Abraham Lincoln. The Fenton History Center provides educational and cultural opportunities for the residents of Chautauqua County and its visitors through the collection, preservation and exhibition of artifacts and archival materials pertaining to Jamestown and Chautauqua County, New York. Governor Fenton, who made his fortune in the lumbering business, commissioned local architect Aaron Hall to design and build a mansion in 1863. A typical example of Italian Villa style architecture, the Fenton Mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. 67 Washington Street, Jamestown, NY 14701 Phone (716) 664-6256 Hours: Monday - Saturday 10:00am - 4:00pm Library Open Monday Evenings 4:00pm - 9:00pm Admission: Adult $5.00, Child $4.00 (12 and under )
