Note: Get acquainted with the people with whom you will spend the week and enjoy a delicious welcome dinner

Arrive To: Registration and check-in begin at 4pm

Dinner: Welcome dinner. Food Service at Tilikum: We strive to present our guests with outstanding customer service and top-quality food. We make this possible by preparing our food from scratch, utilizing the freshest local ingredients and herbs picked fresh from our garden. We are happy to accommodate your special dietary needs with advance notice. Meals will include homemade bread, from scratch pastries and desserts, local & freshly roasted coffees along with a variety of menus.

Day Two: Monday, July 29 - "The Wright Brothers" film, Evergreen Museum and ...
"The Wright Brothers" film, Evergreen Museum and Water Park, assembling and flying giant foam glider plane.

Note: Enter the world of flight with the first successful aviators. On the field trip to the world-class Evergreen Museum you will marvel at the historic aircraft you view in the massive showroom. Follow this with fun in the new giant Water Park featuring 10 slides, wave pool, spa and H2O museum.

Breakfast: In the dining room. Fresh coffee available around 6:30 am. Breakfast typically includes a starch such as honey wheat pancakes or French toast, scrambled eggs, local peppered bacon, fresh seasonal fruit platter, cereal bar* and 100% fruit juice along with coffee, tea and cocoa beverages. *Includes a variety of cold cereals and our famous seven-grain hot cereal.

Morning: Class power point introduction. Craft project - assembling model gliders. Beginning of guided tour at Evergreen Aviation Museum.

Lunch: Picnic lunch at Evergreen Museum

Afternoon: Complete guided tour at Evergreen Aviation Museum, home of the Spruce Goose. Dreams of flight have captured the imaginations of children and adults alike for centuries. Captain Michael King Smith had a fascination with flight that began in childhood and continued throughout his short life. Captain Smith’s fierce dedication and passion for flying led to his dream of an aviation museum unlike any other – a living museum that celebrates aviation’s rich history, honors the patriotic service of our veterans and offers enlightening educational programs in aviation. Flight simulators and hands on activities included in the day. End the afternoon with a swim in the Evergreen Waterpark.

Dinner: Food service in Tilikum dining room.

Evening: Film: "The Wright Brothers". Fly model gliders at Tilikum.

Day Three: Tuesday, July 30 - Tillamook Air Museum, Cape Meares Lighthouse, Til...
Note: On this day long field trip you will walk into a giant WWII blimp hanger filled with aircraft from vintage to modern technology. You can sit in an aircraft trainer to feel what it was like to pilot high performance aircraft. Watching birds soar over the ocean at Cape Meares will illustrate the basic principles of flight. No trip to the Oregon Coast is complete without a stop at the famous Tillamook Cheese factory where you can taste samples and purchase your favorite flavor of ice cream.

Breakfast: Served in Tilikum dining rooml.

Morning: Field trip to Tillamook Air Museum. See one of America's finest collections of over 30 War Birds including our P-38 Lightning, F4U-Corsair, P51-Mustang, PBY Catalina and SBD Dauntless dive bomber. Climb into a jet simulator! Enjoy spending time in the aviation gift shop. All housed in a rare World War II Blimp Hangar...the largest wooden structure in the world!

Lunch: Picnic lunch at Cape Meares Lighthouse on Oregon Coast. Features within the park include the Cape Meares Lighthouse, an informational kiosk, interesting viewpoints where the visitor can view the off-shore rocks for native birds and the annual whale migration, the Three Arch Rocks National Wildlife Refuge, nature trails, and the famous Octopus Tree.

Afternoon: Visit Tillamook Cheese Factory. See cheesemakers and packaging staff at work. Hear about the Factory's history and the cheesemaking process. Smell the delicious aroma of freshly baked waffle cones. And best of all, taste award-winning cheeses and nearly 40 flavors of ice cream.

Dinner: Served in the Tilikum dining room.

Evening: Class introduction to Rocketry. Camp fire on back deck and making S'mores.

Day Four: Wednesday, July 31 - Evergreen Space Museum and IMAX theater/ Precisio...
Evergreen Space Museum and IMAX theater/ Precision Helicopters and Chehalem Air Park/Free time for activities at Tilikum/Helicopter ride/Make and launch your own rocket.

Note: No study of flight is complete without exploration of rockets and space at the Evergreen Space Museum and an exciting movie in the IMAX Theater. Then talk with the pilot and trainer for a major helicopter service who will give you a ride in one of their copters. Following the field trip you will enjoy activities in the fields and lake of Tilikum Retreat Center and end your day creating and launching a model rocket.

Breakfast: Served in the Tilikum dining room.

Morning: Tour Evergreen Space Museum. The Evergreen Space Museum transports you back to a time when travel to the stars was just a dream, and then winds you through history from miniature rockets launched from remote farms to the robotic spacecraft we know today. See the artifacts and spacecraft up close – from rocket booster systems to manned and unmanned spacecrafts. Inspect a Titan II missile. Watch a movie at the IMAX Theater. Step into the largest IMAX theater in the Northwest for a full-throttle cinematic experience.

Lunch: Picnic Lunch at Evergreen Air and Space Museum campus.

Afternoon: Return via Precision Helicopters at Chehalem Airpark. Precision offers pilot training for helicopters and fixed wing aircraft, aircraft maintenance and charter flights. Talk with the experts and climb into a helicopter for a lift off and bird's eye view of the valley. Finish the afternoon with activities at Tilikum. Create your own model rocket.

Dinner: Served in Tilikum dining room.

Evening: Launch your model rocket out in the meadow area. Film: "The Rocketeer"

Day Five: Thursday, August 01 - Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum/C...
Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum/Cascade Soaring Glider Rides/Drive along the beautiful Columbia River to Hood River.

Note: You get to actually soar into air with your grandchild in a piloted glider ride over the Columbia River. While in Hood River you will inspect one of the best collections of antique aeroplanes and automobiles that are fully restored and actually fly and drive. See the development from some of the earliest bi-planes to military aircraft.

Breakfast: Breakfast in dining room.

Morning: Drive up the beautiful Columbia River Highway to Hood River past Multnomah Falls and Bonneville Dam. Tour the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum. Nothing can really prepare you for what you'll see at WAAAM — one of the largest collections of historic propeller-driven airplanes in the country, with each and every plane in flying condition. Each airplane has been meticulously restored, and each one offers a unique window into the history of aviation in this country.

Lunch: Picnic lunch at Ken Jernstedt Airfield.

Afternoon: Glider rides at Cascade Soaring in Hood River, OR.

Dinner: Served in the Tilikum dining room.

Evening: Film and discussion: "October Sky"

Day Six: Friday, August 02 - Wrap-Up and Departures
Note: It's time to say good-bye but hopefully it is only the beginning of exploring the wonders of flight.

Morning: Final class session and wrap-up

Lunch: Lunch available onsite or as "to-go" option for travellers who must leave promptly. Final departure by 12pm.
