 Description: The Peabody Inn, in Baltimore's historic Mt. Vernon area, provides comfortable accommodations to participants in the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University's Road Scholar program. The Inn, located in four townhouses on the Peabody Institute campus, was renovated for the Road Scholar program and provides rooms that are unique in their configuration. See details below.

Facility amenities: The Inn is actually upgraded dorm space, with 2 twin beds in each room, wall-to-wall carpeting, matching bedspreads and drapes, telephone, radio alarm clock, dresser, desk and chair, private bathroom, and AC or heat in each room, depending on the season. A locked safe is available in each room. Bed linens, blankets and pillows are provided. Rooms are freshened and beds are made daily. Fresh towels are replaced on Mondays and Wednesdays. TVs are not provided in the rooms; however, a TV is located in Classroom B and available for viewing when class is not in session. Coffee makers, hair dryers, shower caps, etc. are not provided in the room. There are grab bars in all bathrooms at Peabody Inn. We are committed to making Road Scholar programs accessible to everyone, but please call us in advance so we can plan to accommodate your needs. Afternoon: ARRIVAL, CHECK-IN & REGISTRATION: 1:00-3:30pm.

As your Road Scholar program tuition includes free access to The Walters Art Museum next door to Peabody (open until 5:00pm), feel free to visit while you are waiting.

ORIENTATION: 4:00-5:15pm. We will gather in our meeting room and begin with introductions. We will review the updated daily schedule, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, provide you with key staff contact names and phone numbers, and answer any questions you may have.

Depending on timing of arrivals, the Orientation session may be rescheduled to the evening from 6:00-7:15pm (to be determined one week prior to program commencement).

The educational focus of this particular program is “The Opera Student Experience” with related lectures by experts. You will go behind the scenes, interact with faculty and students, attend classes to observe the rigors of honing passion into craft, and sit in on rehearsals as available. You will also have free access to a variety of concerts/recitals that are part of Peabody’s regular conservatory schedule as well as the world-class Walters Art Museum and Baltimore Museum of Art.

Dinner: Buffet dining with ample healthy food choices at each meal.

Evening: PERFORMANCE: Each year, Peabody presents hundreds of concerts, recitals, and free performances by our stellar students. You are invited to enhance your enjoyment and appreciation of the program by attending the free performances of your choice each evening during the program; often, there will be several to choose from.

Morning: 8:30-10:05 Topic 1 (Bizet's Carmen) 10:05-10:20 break; 10:20-11:40 Topic 2 (Those Villianous Baritones). All lectures presented in a classroom setting. Classrooms are located in the Peabody Inn (location of accomodations). Our superb, experienced faculty will make presentations on the course topics with ample time for questions and answers.

Lunch: 11:45-12:45 lunch on campus

Afternoon: Attend classes with Conservatory students, explore the audition process, meet with Conservatory faculty and administrative staff, journey into the remarkable Peabody archives, or investigate the history of the Peabody Institute. Wine and Cheese Welcome Reception.

Dinner: 5:00-7:00 Dinner on campus

Evening: Each evening, attend Conservatory recitals and concerts performed by talented Peabody artists as they perform the works they are perfecting at this time in their musical training.
