Grandparents will be offered an hour of "down time" while kids are participating in supervised activites with Kettunen Center staff.

Registration 2:30-4:30 PM, check in at the front desk. Welcome/Orientation/Tour at 4:30 pm.

Evening:
Get to know your fellow participants and their young learners through get-acquainted games. Evening hike optional. Introduction to Myths & Legends with our program on Michigan's "Uncommon" Loon.

Day Two: Monday, July 29
- Team Building/Introduction to Angling Skills/Journal Making/Swimming...
Team Building/Introduction to Angling Skills/Journal Making/Swimming & Boating/Recreation time for kids/ Evening Shoreline and Pontoon Fishing
Note:
Recreation time for kids means free time for grandparents. Youth are supervised by Kettunen Center staff at the waterfront or in recreational activities for 1-2 hours daily.
Breakfast:
Breakfast at 8:00 AM.
Morning:
Start off the week with a group photo, everyone smile! Introduction to Storytelling class explores voice techniques, gestures and adding props to make your stories come to life. Get together in group activities and enjoy cooperative activities and low ropes intiatives to get to know your family members, other participants and your strength as a team player.
Lunch:
Lunch at 12:00 PM in the dining hall.
Afternoon:
Get ready to hook the big one! Introduction to Angling Skills will provide the basics for successful fishing. Get fishing licenses today. Balance the afternoon with making journals to record your week's experience and family stories learned while at Kettunen Center. Everyone will make their own personal nature journal and learn how to record thoughts, feelings and memories through writing and drawing exercises. Swimming and boating with a Certified American Red Cross lifeguard on duty.
Dinner:
Dinner at 5:30 PM.
Evening:
Supervised recreation time for kids means free time for Grandparents, 6:30-7:45 pm. Practice what you learned earlier in the day by fishing from the shore and also from a pontoon boat with Mark Stephens, Project FISH Coordinator.

Let's Go Fishing!!!! Shoreline and Pontoon Fishing/Rec Time/"It was THIS BIG!" Intro to story telling/Michigan Animals - part 1/ Recreation time for Kids/Free time for grandparents/
Note:
Joe Rogers, of Wildlife Recovery, will give evening presentation with live raptors, reptiles and other Michigan animals.
Breakfast:
Breakfast at 8:00 AM.
Morning:
Try your hand at some early morning fishing on shore or from the pontoon boat or take an early morning bird watching hike with Kettunen Center staff. Right after breakfast, instruction on cleaning fish caught will be given by Project FISH Coordinator. Group will be then split into two to three smaller groups. Participants will complete all classes over the next two days. Group 1 learns about Tackle Craft. This class teaches the proper technique for tying flys and proper use. Group 2 will learn about the water quality of Center Lake by performing water quality tests, collecting and identifying macroinvertebrates and examining how the results of the collecting relates to water quality. Participants will also make fish prints with paint on t-shirts brought from home. Latex fish will be used if non real fish are available.
Lunch:
Lunch at 12:00 PM.
Afternoon:
Groups switch for second class of series. Group 1 learns about Aquatic Ecology and Fish Prints. Become hydrologists and perform water quality tests on Center Lake, dip for macroinvertebrates, identify the finds, and explore water quality issues. Recreation time for kids/free time for grandparents (Water Games! for kids occurs late afternoon.)
Dinner:
Dinner at 5:30 PM.
Evening:
People and Fish. Learn how people impact fishing quality. Evening opportunities for swimming, fishing and boating.

Note:
Local folk group will give evening performance, combning legend, lore and tales of Michigan.
Breakfast:
Breakfast at 8:00 AM.
Morning:
Try your hand at some early morning fishing or take an early morning bird watching hike. Fish cleaning after breakfast. Fishing from pontoon/shoreline with Project FISH Coordinator. Study Michigan Birds with local Audubon Society member and Kettunen Center staff with computer software and websites, instruction on use of field guides, binoculars and other resources and a birding hike.
Lunch:
Lunch at 12:00 PM. Fish Fry with lunch.
Afternoon:
Learn about the exciting sport of Disc Golf with Kettunen Center staff. Learn about Michigan's amazing forest resources through hiking, games and activities. Swimming and boating with lifeguard.
Dinner:
Dinner at 5:30 PM.
Evening:
Supervised recreational times for kids! Enjoy a live concert with a local folk group "Lake Effect" who specialize in telling stories through their music and lyrics. Concert around the campfire if weather permits.

Michigan Mammals/Global Positioning System instruction with handheld units/Discovery Hike and Environmental Games/Swimming and boating/Storytelling and Talent Night/Campfire with s'mores and a night hike
Breakfast:
Breakfast at 8:00 AM.
Morning:
Enjoy an early bird watching hike before breakfast. Splitting into two-three smaller groups, participants will complete all classes during the day. Group 1 learns about GPS with basic instruction on using handheld units on our geocaching course. Group 2 learns about Michigan mammals with a collection of furs and skulls from Michigan State University's Museum. Groups switch.
Lunch:
Lunch at 12:00 PM.
Afternoon:
Participants will take a discovery hike through forests, fields and wetlands and play ecology games to learn more about native wildlife. Lifeguard on duty for swimming and boating. Preparation time for family storytelling and talents night.
Dinner:
Dinner at 5:30 PM.
Evening:
Storytelling Night! Work as a team with family members or new friends or on your own to share your envionmental knowledge through skits, improvisation, songs and storytelling. Go for a night hike and learn about your amazing ability - Night Vision - and how to enjoy the night with your "other" senses. Explore the night sky and learn some basic constellations. Enjoy old fashioned s'mores before calling it a night!

Morning:
Choose from the following as closing activities: GPS Scavenger Hunt, Shoreline Fishing, Swimming/Boating (no lifeguard on duty), shoreline fishing, open Computer Lab, fish craft, reflective drawing/writing activity or animal prints. Wrap up activity prior to lunch.
