You will stay in a stylishly renovated local Inn, proudly preserving the comfortable simplicity of its classic motor inn structure completely renovated with natural design choices and a full complement of modern, more upscale features and amenities. Inn amenities include heated indoor pool and jacuzzi, dry sauna, and limited exercise facilities open year round. The Spa at Earthbox is on site and available for massage, body treatments, facials, manicures and pedicures. Rooms at the Inn have 2 queen sized beds, a mini-fridge, complimentary WiFi, and private baths. The Inn is easy walking distance (1-3 blocks) from all of the Friday Harbor amenities and just 3 blocks from the waterfront. Earthbox Inn & Spa provides complimentary courtesy shuttle from the ferry landing. To reserve a space on the courtesy shuttle, please call 1-800-793-4756. Hospitality Room opens at 3:30 PM in conference room. Room check in at front desk 4:00 PM. Program Orientation begins at 5:00 in conference room.

- Salish Sea Natural History / San Juan Island Hiking: American Camp...
Salish Sea Natural History / San Juan Island Hiking: American Camp and Mt. Finlayson
Note:
Day 2 Hike Description: Four segments routes. All routes = approx 4.1 miles total. Ample opportunities to shorten or self select out of routes based on individual preference. Terrain: Well maintained trail in most places, some gravel beach, watch for erosion on trails close to cliff edge. Rocky shoreline and upland trails have several short modest elevation gains, including one section with elevation gain of approx 300’.
Breakfast:
Continental Breakfast Buffet: featuring a variety of fresh fruits, assorted hot/cold cereals, assorted breakfast breads (toast, English muffin, bagel, etc.), cottage cheese, boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juice.
Morning:
Orientation to hikes and route descriptions, followed by a presentation on the Salish Sea region and its mammalian inhabitants. Mid morning head out to the trail! Up to four hiking route options with varying distance and challenge available.
Lunch:
Since we’ll be out exploring, we’ll enjoy a picnic/bag lunch today. Our caterer will provide whole fresh fruit, chips, bottled water, and a chef’s choice fresh bakery treat for everyone. Each member of the group will build their own sandwich to their liking – choosing from an assortment of meats, cheese, breads, and condiments / accoutrements.
Afternoon:
San Juan Island hiking continued from late morning. Hike the coastal prairie and bluffs in the San Juan Island National Historic Park at American Camp, featuring views of the Haro Strait, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the Olympic Mountains, and Vancouver Island. Late afternoon return to hotel.
Dinner:
Our dinners are served buffet style so that you choose what works for you. Tonight’s dinner features NW green salad, grilled chicken, steamed veggies, and red potatoes or rice – topped off with coffee, tea, iced tea, water and dessert of the day.
Evening:
Enjoy a presentation "Views from the Islands" to discover an insider's perspective on contemporary life in the islands as will as issues affecting the Island and its residents.

- San Juan Island Hiking: British Camp, Mt. Young, Roche Harbor
Note:
Day 3 Hike Description: Morning has 2 possible hiking routes - Up Mt Young and over to British Camp or Bell Point Loop. Van to Roche Harbor area, Afternoon: 2 options: walk at the Westcott Bay Sculpture Park or hike to Mausoleum . Length: Mt. Young approx 3.8 miles total (elevation gain of 650 ft); Bell Point approx 1 mile; Sculpture Park ½ mile; Mausoleum approx 1.5 miles. Terrain: Logging road and well maintained trail, some tree roots and minor rocky footing in sections.
Breakfast:
Continental Breakfast Buffet: featuring a variety of fresh fruits, assorted hot/cold cereals, assorted breakfast breads (toast, English muffin, bagel, etc.), cottage cheese, boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juice.
Morning:
San Juan Island Hiking: Today's highlights include San Juan Island National Park at English Camp on the shores of Garrison Bay. Climb Mount Young for views of surrounding islands. Easier morning route around Bell Point Loop on the shores of serene Garrison Bay.
Lunch:
Since we’ll be out exploring, we’ll enjoy a picnic/bag lunch today. Our caterer will provide whole fresh fruit, chips, bottled water, and a chef’s choice fresh bakery treat for everyone. Each member of the group will build their own sandwich to their liking – choosing from an assortment of meats, cheese, breads, and condiments / accoutrements.
Afternoon:
In the afternoon, van to historic Roche Harbor Village on the Islands NW corner. In Roche Harbor, stroll through an outdoor sculpture park or take a short hike to the Mausoleum (an architectural delight and family crypt for the John McMillan family). Late afternoon return to hotel, and then we'll explore the Whale Museum . At the Whale Museum, you'll find a fascinating collection of exhibits, artwork, models, and artifacts displayed to promote stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem.
Dinner:
Our dinners are served buffet style so that you choose what works for you. Tonight’s dinner features NW green salad, baked salmon/fish (as locally available by season), rice , and steamed veggies– topped off with coffee, tea, iced tea, water and dessert of the day.
Evening:
Presentation: "Geology of the San Juans" discusses the formation of the islands and terrain of the islands and surrounding region.

Day Four: Wednesday, May 01
- Orcas Island Hiking: Moran State Park
Note:
Day 4 Hike Descriptions: Morning hike is Moran State Park/Mountain Lake Loop. This route circumnavigates Mountain Lake and is approx 4.1 miles of woodland trail, with root and rock outcroppings. At 920’ elevation, this lake hike has a definite “mountain” feel. After completing the loop, van to the summit (Elev. 2409’) for a spectacular views of the entire archipelago. Afternoon hike: Little Summit trail. Trail is 2.2 miles with approx 390’ gradual decline elevation from Mt. Constitution.
Breakfast:
Breakfast is early on this day so that we may catch the inter-island ferry. Continental Breakfast Buffet: featuring a variety of fresh fruits, assorted hot/cold cereals, assorted breakfast breads (toast, English muffin, bagel, etc.), cottage cheese, boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juice.
Morning:
We'll board the ferry for a 40 minute ride to neighboring Orcas Island. On Orcas Island, hike the old growth forest and mountain lake trails of Moran State Park's Mountain Lake Loop. Van to the summit to savor incredible marine views of the San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands from Mt. Constitution.
Lunch:
Since we’ll be out exploring, we’ll enjoy a picnic/bag lunch today. Our caterer will provide whole fresh fruit, chips, bottled water, and a chef’s choice fresh bakery treat for everyone. Each member of the group will build their own sandwich to their liking – choosing from an assortment of meats, cheese, breads, and condiments / accoutrements.
Afternoon:
Hikes continue on Orcas Island. Little Summit trail, which is approx 2.2 miles with approx 390’ gradual decline elevation from Mt. Constitution. Late afternoon ferry trip returns to San Juan Island Hotel.
Dinner:
Dinner out on own in Friday Harbor to explore wonderful local fare!
Evening:
Free evening to savor a leisurely dinner and Friday Harbor ambience.

Day Five: Thursday, May 02
- Wildlife of the San Juan Islands / San Juan Island Coastal Hike
Note:
Day 5 Hike Description: This route begins at Jackal's Lagoon parking area (no services) and features the Griffin Bay coastline of San Juan Island National Park/American Camp as it rambles beneath the Cedar and Fir canopy past lagoons and estuaries to the Cattle Point Lighthouse concluding at the Cattle Point interpretive area (pit toilets). Length: Approx 2.7 miles. Terrain: Gently rolling terrain at sea level. Old logging roads or good dirt paths throughout.
Breakfast:
Continental Breakfast Buffet: featuring a variety of fresh fruits, assorted hot/cold cereals, assorted breakfast breads (toast, English muffin, bagel, etc.), cottage cheese, boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juice.
Morning:
Focus on creatures of land and sky and learn about wildlife of the San Juan Islands as presented by a wildlife rehabilitation expert. Late morning depart for San Juan Island Hiking. Today's route features the grassy shorelines and beaches near Cattle Point Lighthouse at the islands southern tip; and San Juan Island national park's Griffin Bay area with its pristine lagoons and estuaries.
Lunch:
Since we’ll be out exploring, we’ll enjoy a picnic/bag lunch today. Our caterer will provide whole fresh fruit, chips, bottled water, and a chef’s choice fresh bakery treat for everyone. Each member of the group will build their own sandwich to their liking – choosing from an assortment of meats, cheese, breads, and condiments / accoutrements.
Afternoon:
Explore Cattle Point Lighthouse and Interpretive area. Return to hotel mid-afternoon.
Dinner:
Our dinners are served buffet style so that you choose what works for you. Tonight’s dinner features NW green salad, prawns & scallops (in sun-dried tomato pesto), penne pasta and steamed veggies– topped off with coffee, tea, iced tea, water and dessert of the day.
Evening:
Special farewell program features historical folk music from a performer / musicologist revered as an Island icon and local treasure. Features homespun songs and stories from people who built America while living a simpler life. This unusual and irreverent collection of songs conveys remote history through toe-tapping music.
