Afternoon: HOTEL CHECK-IN: Available from 3:00pm - 5:00 PM After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar desk in the lobby to pick up your arrival packet containing your name tag, the up-to-date schedule, and to confirm the time of the orientation session. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Day Two: Monday, April 01 - Welcome to Miami Beach and the beauty of the surr...
Breakfast: Breakfast at hotel

Morning: Enjoy a leisurely walking tour of the famous "art deco district" with a Miami Beach preservationist. You will discover the famous architecture of years past and how Miami Beach "movers and shakers" are trying to preserve it.

Lunch: Lunch on South Beach. Enjoy a meal at one of Miami Beach's most popular local restaurants.

Afternoon: Board a Motor Coach for a tour of this exciting city. Our tour guide will point out sites from the financial district to the Venetian pool built out of a coral rock grotto. Notice the landscape is full of lush vegetation and beautiful flowers this time of the year. Visit the charming Coconut Grove and Coral Gables before heading back to Miami Beach. After our bus tour, ride back to the hotel for a swim or walk on the beach after a long day's adventure.

Dinner: Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day Three: Tuesday, April 02 - See the homes of Miami's "rich and famous" while ...
See the homes of Miami's "rich and famous" while on a boat ride around Biscayne Bay.

Breakfast: Breakfast at hotel

Morning: Motor coach ride to Bayside, the outdoor shopping center situated on the Biscayne Bay marina for our wonderful boat ride that will take us around the bay and point out where the rich and famous reside.

Lunch: Lunch at the Bubba Gump Shrip Co. Made famous by the movie Forrest Gump. A Road Scholar favorite.

Afternoon: After lunch we will board the coach back to the hotel for a free afternoon. Visit Lincoln Road, The Bass Museum of Art or the Holocaust Memorial all within a short walk or public bus ride from the hotel.

Dinner: Dinner on your own.

Evening: Free evening to explore the area.

Day Four: Wednesday, April 03 - Miami's own Little Havana and the mansion of Jame...
Miami's own Little Havana and the mansion of James Deering, built in the 1920's and donated to the City of Miami.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel

Morning: Take a trip to Little Havana to sample some Cuban coffee, walk around the area made famous by the Cubans who arrived in the 1960's, and with a possible visit to the Bay of Pigs museum. Watch the woman in the cigar factory roll the famous "Cuban Cigars."

Lunch: Lunch at the Viscaya Cafe.

Afternoon: Visit James Deering's mansion, built in the 1920's. The mansion is opulent with much of the furniture and artwork just as it was. Then take a tour through the Viscaya Home and Gardens, a site not to be missed.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: LECTURE: "Let's Talk Florida." Learn about Florida history and many other fascinating facts about the state.

Morning: Visit The Jewish Museum of Florida, heralded as the "jewel of South Beach" this award-winning museum occupys two restored adjacent synagogues.

Lunch: Lunch at a local spot

Afternoon: After Lunch visit the Wolfsonian/FIU. Here, the lifetime assemblage of master collector Mitchell ‘Micky’ Wolfson occupies many floors of a fortress-like building that once served as a hurricane-proof storage facility for wealthy northern “snowbirds.” The Wolfsonian/FIU contains the largest collection of art deco era items in the world.

Enjoy the Keys' natural beauty while visiting John Pennekamp State Park. Take a walk through the Visitor's Center and enjoy the many tanks of unusual creatures from beneath the sea.

Morning: Experience John Pennekamp State Park established in 1963, as you visit the amphitheater and browse videos and aquariums at the visitor's center. The Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was the first undersea park created in the US. The park encompasses 178 nautical square miles of coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove swamps. These areas were established to protect and preserve the only living coral reef in the continental US.

Visit two famous homes - James Audubon and Harry Truman's Little White House

Morning: Enjoy a free morning to explore Key West. Visit the Maritime Museum, Fort Zachary Park or even USS Ingham.

Lunch: Lunch on your own

Afternoon: Following lunch we'll visit the Audubon House and Gardens. James Audubon visited the Florida Keys and Dry Tortugas in 1832. He left KW having sighted and drawn 18 new birds for his "Birds of America" folio. It is believed that many of those drawings were conceived in the Audubon House Garden. This will be followed by a visit to the Little White House where Harry and Bess Truman loved to winter.

Dinner: Farewell dinner at the hotel.

Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State ParkDesignated a National Historic Landmark in 1973, Florida's southernmost state park is popular for recreation, as well as U.S. military history. The fort was one of a series built in the mid-1800s to defend the nation's southeastern coastline. Completed in 1866, Fort Zachary Taylor played important roles in the Civil War and Spanish-American War. Guided tours of the fort are available daily.

U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ingham Maritime MuseumU.S. COAST GUARD CUTTER INGHAM (WPG-35) Maritime Museum & National Historic Landmark is both a military history museum and a National Memorial to Guardians Killed in Action In World War II and Vietnam. With over 50 years of service around the work, USCGC INGHAM is a quintessential portrait of Coast Guard history from 1936 to 1988.
