Board bus for the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitors Center and Museum. Spend the morning gaining insight on the Battle of Gettysburg at this state of the art facility. View the twenty two minute film "A New Birth of Freedom and see the restored Cyclorama painting. Enjoy the Exhibit Gallery where several small films, interactives and the museum can be experienced at your own pace.

Afternoon:
Classroom instruction on the first day of the battle at Gettysburg then board bus for an exploration of the First Day Battle Site. Visit the sites of the first day of fighting: McPherson Ridge, Eternal Light Peace Memorial and Barlow's Knoll. Bus will return to hotel for some free time followed by a classroom presentation on “Harpers Ferry, the Story of John Brown's Raid", with Ed Suplee.

Classroom instruction on Day 2 of the battle. Board the bus to visit the battlefield where the second days fighting took place. Travel on Confederate Avenue along the Southern line of Pickett's Charge, Little Round Top, the 20th Maine monument and the Wheatfield.

Day Four: Wednesday, July 10

Morning:
Travel to Harpers Ferry National Historic Park, West Virginia, and enjoy a presentation by Ed Suplee on “Harpers Ferry, the Story of John Brown’s Raid, Part 3.” Visit the site of John Brown's Fort and climb Jefferson's Rock, where Thomas Jefferson proclaimed Harpers Ferry to be "perhaps one of the most stupendous scenes in nature," followed by free time to visit the historic town's museums, shops and beautiful sites.
Lunch:
Boxed lunches will be prepared by the chef of the Gettysburg Hotel and sent along for the group to enjoy on the bus while traveling to Antietam.
Afternoon:
Continue on to Antietam, the site where 23,000 soldiers were killed, wounded, captured or missing after twelve hours of savage combat on September 17, 1862. Highlights of your visit include the Dunker Church, Sunken Road and Burnsides Bridge.

Gather to walk to the Shriver House Museum, which has been restored and furnished to its original 1860s decor. A visit to the museum will lend understanding to what the civilians experienced and the events that took place in the small town of Gettysburg during the battle; walk back to the hotel.

Opportunity to sample local fare on their own.
Afternoon:
Free time to explore the Gettysburg National Military Park and the town of Gettysburg.
Dinner:
Special farewell dinner with a social before.
Evening:
Musician Tom Jolin playing folk and Civil War Era music.

Third day battle class with a field trip to the site of the third days battle at Gettysburg. Bus will return to hotel for check-out.

YWCA Gettysburg & Adams County
Visit our local YWCA located just 1 mile from the Gettysburg Hotel at 909 Fairfield Road (Rte 116). This family recreation facility offers a swimming pool and a spacious 12-person whirlpool-there is no towel service so be sure to bring your own towels. You may swim during lap lane/open swim or join an aquatics fitness class- Please check schedule in your hotel classroom for times. Also available is the weight and fitness room, 2 basketball and 2 racquetball courts for your enjoyment. Hours of operation are: Monday thru Friday 4:30 a.m.-10 p.m. (pool opens at 6a.m.). Saturday 8 a.m-5 p.m. Sunday 12 noon to 5 p.m. (717) 334-9171.

Eisenhower National Historic Site and Farm
Located adjacent to the Gettysburg Battlefield, the farm first served as a weekend retreat during his Presidency and later the only place the President and Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower ever called home. Many programs and activities are offered such as a 15 minute Orientation tour, House tour, Self Guided Walks, Narrated Cell Phone tour (minutes do apply), and Ranger conducted programs throughout the summer. Also stop by the Reception Center to view the Eisenhower Exhibits and the short video about President Eisenhower’s life from a small boy through his 38 years in the military, to his presidency and retirement. Due to a lack of on-site parking and space limitations in the Eisenhower home, visits can only be made by a shuttle bus leaving from the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center. Adams County Historical Society
Located in the Samuel Schmucker Hall on the campus of the Lutheran Theological Seminary. It has a museum, library, archives and meeting rooms of the society. Between archives, photographs, books, and objects the Adams County Historical Society estimates that it has over 1,000,000 items in the collection. Hours of operation are: Wednesday thru Saturday 9a.m. to Noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Museum is open by appointment only. Guided Historic Walking Tours
Depart from the Gettysburg Hotel with a licensed Town Guide and learn how the battle impacted the town and its people. Walk to historical buildings and landmarks while hearing the stories from diary entries, personal accounts, letters, drawings, and photographs with stories of Tillie Pierce, the canon known as “Penelope”, Mary Virginia Wade, Sarah Broadhead, Mary McAllister, Elizabeth Gilbert, John Burns and many, many others. The David Wills House
Home of attorney David Wills and where President Lincoln spent the night before delivering his famous Gettysburg Address. The museum includes seven galleries, including the restored office where David Wills coordinated post-battle recovery efforts and the famous Lincoln bedroom where the President finished revising the Gettysburg Address. Adams County Winery
A small farm winery since 1975 and is located 10 miles west of Gettysburg at 251 Peach Tree Rd Orrtanna Pa,17353 (717) 334-4631. The Farm Winery is open 6 days a week from 10 am to 6 pm. The Winery also has a wine shop located just one block from the hotel at 25 Chambersburg St. open 11 am to 7 pm Monday thru Saturday and 11 am to 6 pm on Sunday.

Park Ranger Campfire Talks
Campfire talks each night beginning at 8:30 pm by a Gettysburg National Park Ranger. Topics are different each night and will be related to the battle of Gettysburg. The location of the campfire talks is in Pitzer's woods Amphitheater located on the National Park Battlefield.
