Nestled in 100 acres of peaceful woodland, Black Rock Retreat is located in picturesque Southern Lancaster County, PA.and is surrounded by Amish farmland. Begun 50 years ago by the vision of a local Mennonite leader, Black Rock has grown from a small summer camp to a year-round facility which offers peaceful, comfortable accommodations to many various groups. The Road Scholar program is held in the beautiful and modern Maranatha Retreat Center. You will have time to explore the hiking trails which lead to our "Lake in the Woods" or the Octorara Creek. Also available for your use is a gymnasium and plenty of comfortable seating by a fireplace.

Facility amenities:
Black Rock Retreat welcomes Participants in the Maranatha Retreat Center which includes an inviting lobby area which hosts two stone fireplaces and access to a large deck. Also located in the retreat center are the spacious meeting rooms for sessions, dining area and lodging rooms. The motel style rooms offer private baths. - Check-in and registration/Orientation
Afternoon:
RETREAT CENTER CHECK-IN AND PROGRAM REGISTRATION: As you enter Black Rock Retreat's Maranatha Retreat Center come on over to the Road Scholar table located in the center of the spacious lobby. Registration will take place from 4PM-5:30PM. You will receive your room assignment and all needed information for the program at that time.
Dinner:
Dinner is a buffet-style meal served in the Maranatha Retreat Center Dining Room. Our guests will meet in the lobby for instructions. Our goal is to serve our guests healthy and delicious food featuring local tastes and recipes.
Evening:
ORIENTATION/GETTING TO KNOW YOU: Beginning at 7:15PM in our private meeting room we'll have an overview of the program ahead and review the up-to-date schedule, responsibilities, safety, guidelines, emergency procedures, and any other administrative issues. Please be aware that local circumstances may require adjusting program elements. In the event of changes we will notify you as quickly as possible via the SPI. We appreciate your understanding. We will also spend some time becoming better acquainted with participants and program staff. Find out what you have in common beyond a love of learning! The session will be followed by an ice cream sundae bar set up in the retreat center dining room with plenty of time to relax and prepare for the full day of activity and learning ahead.

Popular speaker, Bill Messenger, will entertain and enlighten us on the fun topic of "Blues, Boogie and Big Band Swing". This talented pianist and story teller will bring this music to life.
Lunch:
Retreat Center dining room.
Afternoon:
Bill Messenger returns with a continuation on "Blues, Boogie and Big Band Swing". Black Rock Retreat's beautiful pool will be available for guests to enjoy in the late afternoon.
Dinner:
Retreat Center dining room.

Popular speaker and local theologian Brinton Rutherford will lecture on Amish and Mennonite history and present day beliefs.

- "Taste of Lancaster County" excursion!
Breakfast:
Retreat center dining room.
Morning:
Leave on charter bus for Downtown Lancaster City. Our day will begin with a 2 hour, historic walking tour of Lancaster City. After the tour, participants will have time to explore the city on their own. Options to explore include the Demuth Museum and Historic Lancaster Central Market.
Lunch:
Lunch on your own in downtown Lancaster City.
Afternoon:
Guided by a local Amish-Mennonite, we will explore beautiful Lancaster County and taste some of the popular foods of the area. A visit to Kitchen Kettle Village is planned with delicious samples of jams, jellies and salsas.
Dinner:
Enjoy a traditional dinner in an Old Order Amish home.
Evening:
Enjoy peaceful country roads as we travel back to Black Rock Retreat.
