PROGRAM REGISTRATION: After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff and pick up your arrival packet which we'll review during our orientation session before dinner.

The history of Los Angeles, one of the oldest cities in the United States, begins with its founding by the Spanish government as a town in 1781, eight years before George Washington became the first president of the United States and 22 years before the Louisiana Purchase.
A successful farming community under the flags of Spain, Mexico and the United States, Los Angeles grew to become the second largest city in the United States. While the session discusses the basic facts of the city's founding and growth, the emphasis on is on the reasons and motivations that created the present city.Lodging: The L.A.
