Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.

Watson Homestead has been an Road Scholar super site since 1982. Comprised of over 500 acres, the site is located 15 minutes (8 miles) west of Corning. It was established by Thomas J. Watson (founder of IBM) on his birthplace - hence Watson Homestead.

Room amenities:
Heat and AC, some rooms feature an outside patio and are located one level below the dining room and classroom level - via stairs. Since we are a retreat center, individual guest rooms do not have television sets. There are television sets in three lounge areas available for guests.
Facility amenities:
Amenities on site and at no extra charge to participants include indoor heated pool, hiking trails, daily group newspapers, wi-fi capable in classroom and lounge areas, chapel, 24 hour coffee/beverage, free parking and snacks.
Smoking policy:
No
Smoking policies vary by facility. During all group events and activities, smoking is prohibited.
Additional nights before:
$85
Add-a-room accommodations for participants may be available, depending on availability. Please inquire.

Day One: Tuesday, October 22
- Check in, woods walk and Iroquois creation story presentation.
Lunch:
Registration opens at 11 am in the lobby. Lunch in the dining room is served at 12:30 pm. Lunch buffet includes a salad bar daily in addition to featured entres.
Afternoon:
We will introduce the site, staff, program details and group members to each other. Woods walk in the old growth forest on Watson Homestead property with Michael DeMunn, Seneca Indian forester and conservationist. Swimming pool available from 4:30 - 5:30 pm.
Dinner:
Dinner is served at 6 pm in the dining room. We feature all-you-can-eat country-style buffet entrees with at least one vegetarian option and a salad bar with dinner.
Evening:
Lecture at 7 pm will be a storytelling format of the Iroquois creation story by Jenny Monroe, our Road Scholar coordinator and Iroquois specialist.

Day Two: Wednesday, October 23
- Day program with Seneca artist, faith keeper and teacher, Bill...
Day program with Seneca artist, faith keeper and teacher, Bill Crouse, plus session on Iroquois beadwork and the Indian Boarding school movement.
Breakfast:
Breakfast entrees, hot and cold, are served at 8 am in the dining room. Coffee, tea and decaf are available 24/7. In addition to three meals, three snacks will be offered each day for Road Scholarlers.
Morning:
Our lead instructor, Bill Crouse, Seneca Hawk Clan, will give two cultural presentations including storytelling, dance, music and historical information about his people. Bill is an artist, faith keeper and cultural teacher at the Salamanca School district, where he has taught for over 20 years.
Lunch:
Lunch will be at the Homestead.
Afternoon:
We will finish up with Bill's presentation and hear from Dolores Elliott on Iroquois beadwork. The pool will be open from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.
Dinner:
Dinner is served at 6 pm in the dining room. We feature all-you-can-eat country-style buffet entrees with at least one vegetarian option and a salad bar with dinner.
Evening:
Our evening speaker, Rita Pope, will share a multi-media presentation on the Indian boarding school movement.

Day Three: Thursday, October 24
- Motorcoach excursion to Victor, NY for the Ganondagan State Historic...
Motorcoach excursion to Victor, NY for the Ganondagan State Historic Site and to Seneca Falls, NY.
Breakfast:
Breakfast entrees, hot and cold, are served at 8 am in the dining room. Coffee, tea and decaf are available 24/7. In addition to three meals, three snacks will be offered each day for Road Scholars.
Morning:
Depart on day-long field trip to Seneca Falls and Ganondagan. In Seneca Falls we'll have a ranger tour of the place where the American women's movement began at the Women's Rights National Historic Park, plus visits to Elizabeth Cady Stanton's home and the Women's Hall of Fame. On the coach, we'll have a lecture providing links between the Iroquois Clan Mothers and the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848.
Lunch:
We will eat the bag lunches we prepared at breakfast at the Women's Rights National Historical Park.
Afternoon:
Then we travel alongside the Erie Canal to Victor, NY, home of Ganondagan State Historic Site with its full scale furnished Iroquois longhouse and other exhibits. Native staff will instruct. Our return trip will be through Canandaigua and alongside Canandaigua Lake to Naples, through wine country.
Dinner:
Dinner is served at 6 pm in the dining room. We feature all-you-can-eat country-style buffet entrees with at least one vegetarian option and a salad bar with dinner.
Evening:
This evening's activity, a Watson Homestead tradition, is for everyone to help crank the ice cream, then it's your choice of toppings or home-made maple syrup!

Day Four: Friday, October 25
- Final presentation on Iroquois culture, guided tour at the Rockwell...
Final presentation on Iroquois culture, guided tour at the Rockwell Museum of Western Art and optional visit to the Corning Museum of Glass.
Breakfast:
Breakfast entrees, hot and cold, are served at 8 AM in the dining room. Coffee, tea and decaf are available 24/7.
Morning:
Check out of rooms after breakfast. We will have a final segment of Q&A about the Iroquois culture, then group will depart in their own cars for a curatorial tour at the Rockwell Museum of Western Art in downtown Corning. In addition, admission vouchers for the Corning Museum of Glass will be distributed.
Lunch:
Participants will depart from the Rockwell Museum. It's always hard to go our separate ways - maybe we'll meet again at another Road Scholar!
