Welcome to the charming City of Portland, getting to know your fellow bikers and learning about the upcoming week.

Note: While at our lodging, we will get to know each other as we learn about the week ahead.

Arrive To: Check in between 3:00 - 5:30 pm at lodging.

Dinner: Catered dinner at motel.

Evening: Evening orientation and introductions/discussion until 9:00 pm.

Day Two: Monday, October 07 - Enjoy biking in Portland along the Willamette Riv...
Enjoy biking in Portland along the Willamette River and through its neighborhoods.

Note: Bike 10 - 25 miles along paved roads and bike paths. Couple small hills (~100 ft.)

Breakfast: Breakfast will be served at 7:15 am in lodging restaurant.

Morning: First off, learn the basics of efficient biking, how to properly size your bike and the simple repairs that we might be doing throughout the week. Then we will pick up our rental bikes and get them properly sized. We start our bike ride along the Willamette River for one view after another of the Willamette River and the surrounding greenspaces. Ride mostly on paths, with just a few short sections on streets, they are delightful and relaxing.

Lunch: Lunch on your own as you choose between several nearby eateries.

Afternoon: Continue biking along the Willamette River and through neighborhoods. During an afternoon walk and lecture, learn about Portland's bike program.

Dinner: Dinner at a restaurant.

Evening: No evening program since we drive back to lodging.

Note: Bike 10-25 miles along paved roads with gentle continuous elevation loss.

Lunch: Sack lunch at the Day Lodge.

Afternoon: Trade city streets for gentle mountain roads as we bike on low use roads through lush forests.

Dinner: Dinner at the motel.

Evening: Relax to musical entertainment provided by lodging.

Day Four: Wednesday, October 09 - Bike along the historic Columbia River Highway pa...
Bike along the historic Columbia River Highway past cascading waterfalls and vistas of the Columbia River.

Note: Bike 10 - 25 miles along paved roads and bike paths. Couple small hills (~100 ft.)

Breakfast: Breakfast at 7:15 AM in lodging restaurant.

Morning: The morning will be spent visiting the western end of the Columbia River Gorge and Multnomah falls, the largest falls in Oregon at 542 ft.

Lunch: Sack lunch outdoors.

Afternoon: Bike the eastern gorge on the old Columbia Highway, now converted into a biking/walking path through the Mosier tunnels. Pedal through semiarid terrain dotted with Ponderosa pine, twin tunnels blasted from the rock, and spectacular geologic formations that tell the story of the gorge's creation.

Dinner: Dinner on your own as you choose between several nearby eateries in the quaint town of Hood River. You will find food and drink ranging from simple home-style meals to gourmet offerings, outstanding wine to hand-crafted beers. In this rich agricultural region, it’s not surprising the food is fresh, local, and delicious.

Evening: No evening program since we drive back to lodging.

Bike along the Columbia river with views of Mt. Hood towering in the distance. Enjoy Portland's easygoing city life during your free afternoon.

Note: Bike 10 - 25 miles along paved roads and bike paths. Minimal elevation gain.

Breakfast: Breakfast at 7:15 am in lodging restaurant.

Morning: Bike along the Columbia River near Portland and our hotel with views of Mt. Hood. Follow the south shore of the Columbia River, often just a few feet away! Enjoy lovely views of the water, boats and marinas from the wide, flat and paved path.

Lunch: Lunch to be determined

Afternoon: Enjoy Portland on your own. Take the local train MAX to a wide variety of suitable destinations on the streets — and trails — of Portland. Narrow streets and compact blocks make for easy walking.

Dinner: Dinner on your own as you explore Portland with its many restaurants. Portland has become one of the most exciting food towns in the country. See what the buzz is all about as you seek out a fine family restaurant, ultra specialty shoppe, or the perfect food cart (there are over 600!).

Evening: No evening presentation since you will be enjoying Portland's nightlife before returning to the hotel on MAX.

Day Six: Friday, October 11 - Bike along the peaceful back roads in the Willame...
Bike along the peaceful back roads in the Willamette Valley. Bike through Champoeg State Park, where Oregon voted to join the U.S.

Note: Bike 10 - 25 miles along paved roads and bike paths. Couple small hills (~100 ft.)

Breakfast: Breakfast at 7:15 AM in lodging restaurant.

Morning: Bike around French Prairie and Champoeg State Park, where Oregon voted to join the U.S. Situated on the south bank of the scenic Willamette River, Champoeg's acres of forest, fields, and wetlands recreate the landscape of a bygone era.

Lunch: Sack lunch outdoors.

Afternoon: In the afternoon continue biking around Champoeg State park. Watch for wildlife and cool off with some ice cream at the old-fashioned Butteville general store (oldest in Oregon)!

Dinner: Dinner at the motel.

Evening: Share stories, photos and experiences from the week during a closing program that ends by 9:00 pm

Day Seven: Saturday, October 12 - Memories of beautiful scenery and new friends.
Note: No activity scheduled as people pack up for their departure after breakfast.

Morning: Program ends at 9:00 AM with everyone checking out of lodging by 12:00 PM.
