Enjoy an intriguing class on unexplained ocean disasters. Discover the details of war and non-war related ship tragedies as you discuss how these mishaps could have been avoided. The instructor encourages you to recognize positive changes that resulted from these catastrophes as you examine well known cases such as the Titanic, CSS Hunley, the Lusitania, and others. "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" Sail into a class on the Battle of Mobile Bay. A local expert discusses the battle and Mobile, Alabama – the Confederacy’s last major port on the Gulf of Mexico during the Civil War.

Visit the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park to view a replica of the Submarine HL Hunley. Learn why this submarine, designed, built and tested in Mobile during the early years of the Civil War, is a special part of our Gulf Coast history.

Forget the history books and the classroom chalkboards, experience history first-hand along Alabama’s beautiful Gulf Coast. During your field trip to Fort Morgan you will meet a guide who will explain how the Spanish used Fort Morgan in the 1500's, then rebuilt it in the early 1800's as protection against Native Americans. Standing atop the fort with a view of the once-embattled Mobile bay - imagine the summer of 1864 when Confederate and Union naval forces fought for control of the harbor entrance.
Lunch:
Enjoy coastal cuisine at a local restaurant.
Afternoon:
Experience the proud history of flight on a field trip and guided tour of the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida. One of the largest and most beautiful air and space museums in the world, NAS is home to over 140 beautifully restored aircraft representing Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Aviation. The Museum features memorabilia from each era of fighting including personal mementos from historic battles, flight logs, vintage equipment, and flight clothing.

Fort Morgan
Fort built in the 1500's by the Spanish. Known mostly for its strategic location during the Civil War's Battle of Mobile Bay. Visit the fort museum and learn from the guides and reenactors about the Confederate soldiers of 1864.
Gulf State Park
18 hole golf course, 6,000 acre park with walking trails and nature center are available at Gulf State Park. You can also fish in the Gulf or in a fresh water lake, or walk along the 2 1/2 mile beach on the Gulf of Mexico.
