Afternoon: Field trip to the antebellum mansion The Oaks, one of only a few Jackson buildings not burned to the ground by Federal troops; and excursion to Eudora Welty House, home of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author.

Morning: Motor coach to the Old Courthouse Museum, 1858, where Jefferson Davis launched his political career and Grant lowered the Stars and Bars and raised the Stars and Stripes in 1863.

Lunch: Lunch at Anchuca mansion.

Afternoon: Guided visit through Anchuca, the final home of Joseph Davis after the Civil War, where Jefferson Davis spoke to the citizenry from the balcony. Field trip to Vicksburg National Military Park, which is filled with captivating art work, such as the Missouri Monument (bronzework), Tilghman Monument, honoring Confederate heroes Brig. Gens. Lloyd Tilghman and Daniel Adams; the unique Texas Monument; the magnificent bronze Iowa Monument; the Military Park museum and bookshop; and the enormous Illinois Memorial, filled with oconography. Anecdotes include the story of Albert D. J. Cashire or Jennie Hodges, a female soldier in the Illinois Infantry, and 12-year-old Fred Grant, who accompanied his father. Ulysses S. Grant, throughout the Vicksburg campaign. Visit Fort Hill in the park.
