Morning: Embark on an expert-led visit of Taliesin West. Nestled in the foothills of rugged mountains and surrounded by the spectacular Sonoran Desert lies Taliesin West: a sprawling 600-acre complex designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright. Frank Lloyd Wright literally created Taliesin (pronounced TALLY EHSSEN) West "out of the desert." He and his apprentices gathered rocks from the desert floor and sand from the washes to build this great desert masterpiece. From the beginning, this remarkable set of buildings astounded architectural critics with its beauty and unusual form.

Afternoon: Explore the ruin of an 800 year-old platform mound possibly used by the Hohokam for ceremonies or as an administrative center. An excavated ballcourt and two full-scale reproductions of prehistoric Hohokam homes can be viewed along the ruin trail. The site also includes some of the last remaining intact Hohokam irrigation canals. The museum offers expert-led talks of the platform mound and museum exhibits, as well as other places of archaeological interest in the Salt River Valley and the state.

Afternoon: Enjoy an on-site exploration of the Arizona State Capitol Museum. Dedicated as the territorial capitol in 1901, the copper-domed building witnessed many landmarks in Arizona history including the writing of the Arizona State Constitution in 1910 and statehood in 1912. The historic Capitol, now the Arizona Capitol Museum, continues to watch the state's political story unfold with its central position between the governor's office and the state legislature. It remains the primary symbol of democracy in Arizona

Afternoon: Absorb and reflect upon the brilliant artwork featured in the Phoenix Art Museum on your own. The museum is one of the largest art museums in the Southwest, and within its labyrinth of halls and galleries is a respectable collection that spans the major artistic movements from the Renaissance to the present. Exhibits cover decorative arts, historic fashions, Spanish-colonial furnishings and religious art, and, of course, works by members of the Cowboy Artists of America.
