- Oregon's Historic Lighthouses lecture, Oregon Coast Geology lecture,...
Oregon's Historic Lighthouses lecture, Oregon Coast Geology lecture, and field excursion to Cape Perpetua.
Breakfast:
Plated breakfast served in the Pacific Room at the hotel; usually variety of eggs, fresh fruit, meat, and breads
Morning:
Learn about the amazing construction and operation of the coast's iconic lighthouses in a lecture by a coastal historian and former Forest Service employee who helped restore one of the coast's beacons. This is a fun opportunity to meet the colorful characters who works diligently to keep the coast safe for navigation.
Lunch:
Plated lunch in Pacific Room at hotel; sandwich, soup, salad or pasta dish
Afternoon:
Discover the ground beneath your feet in a fast-paced lecture on Oregon's coastal geology. From plate tectonics to the Cascadia Subduction Zone, you will learn how the coast has and still is a place of dynamic forces. Following the lecture, travel to the top of Cape Perpetua for an eagle's view of the coast. A short, (1/4 mile) hike atop the cape will bring you face-to-face with the area's winter wildlife, flora, and geology.

Evening:
Get to know the creatures and plants that call the coast home. This jam-packed slideshow will highlight the area's incredibly diverse collection of birds, mammals, fish, trees, wildflowers, and intertidal creatures.

- Off to Newport! Oregon Coast Aquarium, Yaquina Head Outstanding...
Off to Newport! Oregon Coast Aquarium, Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, and the Explorers of the Northwest Coast lecture.
Breakfast:
Plated meal in Pacific Room at hotel
Morning:
Field excursion to Newport, home to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Explore the amazing collection of exhibits and habitats of the facility and meet sea otters, seals, sea lions, an octopus, sharks, puffins, oyster catchers, sea stars, jellies, rays, vultures, and countless other marine creatures.
Lunch:
Lunch is at local restaurant: probably Izzy's, which has a large varied buffet so participants can pick their own options or lunch
Afternoon:
Climb the coast's tallest lighthouse and learn from costumed interpreters what it was like to keep the beacon lit. Scan the offshore rocks for seals, sea lions, and sea birds. At the interpretive center, learn about the history of Yaquina Head.
Dinner:
Plated meal at hotel Pacific Room overlooking the ocean.
Evening:
A National Weather Service Meteorologist will present the wild history of Oregon's dynamic weather. Hurricane-force winds are common along the coast and tree-snapping storms occur each winter. Learn how forecasters watch for these storms and warn coastal residents of hazardous conditions.

- 7-course breakfast at a lighthouse keeper's house, Heceta Head...
7-course breakfast at a lighthouse keeper's house, Heceta Head Lighthouse, free time to explore the area, and a lecture by a National Weather Service meteorologist.
Breakfast:
Sip locally-roasted coffee as a chef prepares your 7-course breakfast in the historic lighthouse keeper's house at Heceta Head. Between courses explore the old home filled with antiques and photos of the lighthouse in its heyday. You will never forget this breakfast!
Morning:
Following our decadent breakfast, stroll up the trail to Heceta Head Lighthouse and take a close look at the most-photographed lighthouse anywhere. Scan the ocean below for sea lions and whales. The walk to the lighthouse is about 1/2 mile.

This is a chance to hear 'the real deal' about the hazards and rewards of commercial fishing in the Pacific Northwest. Our presenter will share some of his experience commercial fishing in waters from northern California to the Bering Sea Alaska.He will also discuss the current state of fisheries, particularly salmon and Dungeness crab.

- Historic trail hike, Newport's historic bayfront, Yaquina Bay...
Historic trail hike, Newport's historic bayfront, Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, and Hatfield Marine Science Center.
Breakfast:

Morning:
Your hotel sits atop land that has been home to people for thousands of years. Walk in their footsteps along the historic trail along the rocks and coves of Yachats. Learn about the geology and natural history of the area and keep an eye out for sea birds, whales, sea lions, and other locals. Walk is less than 2 miles over good, level path.

Afternoon:
Field Trip to Newport: Yaquina Bay Lighthouse State Park, guided tour of lightkeeper's house; Then on to a walking tour of the Newport Old Town and Bayfront; Fishing Boats, Sea Lions on docks; lots of wildlife up close. Also, a stop at the Hatfield Marine Science Center where the cutting edge research of the 400 scientists who work at this complex is showcased in great hands-on exhibits. Some displays are interactive, some are aquaria, all are fascinating to see.

Evening:
Wrap up your week with a friendly celebration. We will visit a local charming pioneer log church, now a small museum.
