Description: The Rodeway Inn is located on Maddox Blvd., walking distance to downtown Chincoteague, and a short drive to the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Assateague National Seashore. The conference room is on the second floor of the motel. The outdoor pool is available during the warmer months. Bike rental is available on the island. Patios and pavalion available for your use.

Afternoon: Please plan on arriving at the motel between 3:00 and 4:30 p.m. for registration.

Dinner: Dinner will be at 5:30 at Etta's Restaurant. For your dining pleasure this program includes "A Taste of the Island." We will be dining each evening at a different island restaurant, each known for its fine cuisine and friendly service.

Evening: This evening's activities include a schedule review, a colorful history of our local area as well as an ice cream social at the Island Creamery featuring local homemade ice cream.

Day Two: Monday, July 15 - Museum; beach; NASA; Beebe Ranch
Breakfast: Leave for the Museum of Chincoteague Island and an al fresco island breakfast

Morning: Our small island has an outstanding museum, rated by Trip Adviser as one of the top 5 attractions on Chincoteague. With your expert guide, explore the museum's exhibits including a rare 1st Order Fresnel lens, surprising shipwreck finds, handmade artifacts from the past and much more. A 5 minute drive takes you to Assateague National Seashore, at 37 miles the longest stretch of wild, undeveloped beach on the mid-Atlantic coast. Have a suit on hand as there will be plenty of opportunity to go in the water. As you take a walk on the sandy shore, listen to your guide discuss dune ecology.

Lunch: 12:00 noon lunch at the NASA picnic area.

Afternoon: We will visit the NASA Base which is rapidly expanding and taking on a new commercial role with the space station. Learn about the Antares rocket which will deliver supplies to the space station. Try on a space suit. Travel from there to the Beebe Ranch, home of Misty. Explore the stable where she lived. Tour the island by bus.

Dinner: 5:30 p.m. dinner at Don's. a local downtown favorite.

Evening: Tonight you will learn about the famous Chincoteague pony herd, from when they first landed on our shores to their current existence on Assateague. Your Group Leader, Cindy Oehm will regale you with their fascinating history. She will enlighten you as to the care they receive from the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company and the mutual benefit reaped by the town and the herd. See Misty's footprints in front of the local Island Theater and enjoy the fabulous sunset from Robert Reed Downtown Park.

Day Three: Tuesday, July 16 - Chincoteague Wildlife Trip; Bateman Center Tour a...
Chincoteague Wildlife Trip; Bateman Center Tour and Lecture; Free Evening

Breakfast: 7:45 leave for Mr. Paul's

Morning: Explore the interior of the Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge to look for wild ponies, petite Sika elk, nesting terrapin, otters, bald eagles, Delmarva Peninsula Fox Squirrel and other wildlife. Jenny Somers, a local birding expert with over 30 years experience, will be our guide. We will be going into an area normally closed to the public, so be sure to bring your camera for this trip. Also carry along your binoculars if you have them.

Lunch: 12:00 noon enjoy lunch from Woody's Beach BBQ

Evening: Tonight you are on your own to explore and take advantage of a variety of experiences such as a boat cruise, a trolley trip around the island and/or shopping. We will guide y9oun to a variety of restaurants that meet your special tastes.

Day Four: Wednesday, July 17 - Mud Mucking; Misty Movie; Carriage House and Pony...
Breakfast: 7:45 leave for Mr. Paul's

Morning: Put on your old shoes and get ready to get down and dirty! This morning we go mud mucking in Tom's Cove looking for marsh creatures. National Park Service rangers will lead you on an exploration of the mud looking for clams, oysters, crabs and other assorted crustaceans.

Lunch: 12:00 noon return to the motel to clean up and enjoy a box lunch.

Afternoon: Relax and enjoy watching the original movie of Misty of Chincoteague at the theater where it premiered.

Dinner: Kids will enjoy crafts and pizza at Ledo's while the adults have crab cakes at the Village Restaurant.

Evening: After looking through the Pony Center's collection of pony memorabilia, including Misty related items, enjoy a show produced by the Chincoteague Pony Drill Team led by Kendy Allen. The Center features veterans of the pony swim and a number of Misty descendants.

Day Five: Thursday, July 18 - Island Experiences; Crab feast; Saltwater Cowboy ...
Breakfast: 7:45 leave for Mr. Paul's

Morning: Practice your observation skills by seeing if you can complete the infamous museum scavenger hunt. Learn about horseshoe crabs, living fossils over 150 million years old, and their role in modern medicine. Try your fishing acumen at crabbing and clamming with tools from the museum's collection.

Lunch: 11:45 leave for Maria's

Afternoon: Enjoy an afternoon to explore your special interests the island. Your guides will be ready to help you arrange activities such as horse riding lessons, boat tours, shopping, miniature golf and even an old fashioned English tea.

Dinner: At 5:00. this evening's special treat is a crab feast in Memorial Park. Experienced "eaters" will be available to help if this is your first crab feast.

Evening: This evening's guest speaker is a local "saltwater" cowboy and Chincoteague Volunteer fireman. He will entertain your with stories of the local fire company volunteers who care for the Chincoteague Pony herd. He has a special video of the ponies and will explain how the firemen keep the ponies healthy and free.

Day Six: Friday, July 19 - Lighthouse Visit
Breakfast: 8:00 at Mr. Paul's

Morning: You will take a trip to our own lighthouse on Assateague. Your guide will help you understand the role of this facility in the Civil War, and the dramatic "change in location" with the shifting sands. Learn first-hand about the restoration activities underway. Our program will end at the completion of your visit to the lighthouse.
