Afternoon: Hotel check-in after 3:00pm. Program registration between 4:30 - 5:15pm.

Dinner: Dinner at Golden Goose Restaurant, adjacent to the hotel. Participants will have multiple entrees to choose from with typical rotating selections to include Chicken Marsala, fish, prime rib, meat loaf, pastas, vegetarian options, etc.

Evening: Introductions and orientation in the motel meeting room following dinner. Get to know your fellow participants and get prepared for your upcoming week of exciting activities.

Note: Walking of less than one mile with some climbing up uneven and steep steps to reach the Well's outlet.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Golden Goose Restaurant. Multiple hot entrees to choose from including bacon and eggs, french toast and sausage, fruit bowl and yogurt, oatmeal, etc.

Morning: Travel to nearby Montezuma Well National Monument to view the mysterious sink hole 'well' and prehistoric ruins constructed 600 years ago by the Sinagua Indians. Learn about the pithouse dwelling structure adjacent to the well. The "Well" is a natural limestone sinkhole with perennial water where the Sinagua constructed irrigation canals and dwellings. Explore the Well and natural history of the region with your guide.

Lunch: Sack or picnic lunch at Montezuma Well.

Afternoon: Native American craft project creating leather "medicine bags" in the hotel meeting room; followed by swim time in the motel pool.

Dinner: Dinner at Golden Goose Restaurant, adjacent to the hotel. Participants will have multiple entrees to choose from with typical rotating selections to include Chicken Marsala, fish, prime rib, meat loaf, pastas, vegetarian options, etc.

Evening: Evening program on desert critters (with live snakes lizards, etc.) in meeting room. See, touch and have your picture taken with our desert friends and learn about the ways they adapt and thrive in this harsh environment.

Red Rock Crossing on Beautiful Oak Creek/Finish Craft Projects and Kids Only Activity/Evening Entertainment

Note: Walking of approximately 1 mile on some paved and some non-paved sandy and rocky trails to creek-side location for swimming option.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Golden Goose Restaurant. Multiple hot entrees to choose from including bacon and eggs, french toast and sausage, fruit bowl and yogurt, oatmeal, etc.

Morning: Take a field trip to fabled Red Rock Crossing. With Cathedral Rock as a backdrop, wade or swim in the water. Take a nature hike and enjoy a picnic lunch along Oak Creek. Participants who are unable to walk/hike at the pace of the children will be be able to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of this world famous scene.

Lunch: Picnic lunch at Crescent Moon Ranch, Red Rock Crossing.

Afternoon: Return to motel from Red Rock Crossing in mid afternoon for conclusion of our prior day's craft project. Kids Only project in late afternoon. Begin packing for tomorrow's departure. Resting or swim time in the motel pool.

Dinner: Dinner at Golden Goose Restaurant, adjacent to the hotel. Participants will have multiple entrees to choose from with typical rotating selections to include Chicken Marsala, fish, prime rib, meat loaf, pastas, vegetarian options, etc.

Evening: After dinner, enjoy an evening of regional cowboy and folk music, songs, stories, dancing and fun with local entertainers Ken and Lynne Mikell.

Grand Canyon National Park South Rim & Bright Angel Trail/More Grand Canyon Exploration/Old Route 66/River Trip Orientation

Note: Walking along Canyon rim at 7000' elevation on mostly paved trail with gradual up and down for approximately 1 mile. Optional hike into Canyon on rocky, uneven trail less than 1 mile RT or less with up to 150' elevation change.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Golden Goose Restaurant. Multiple hot entrees to choose from including bacon and eggs, french toast and sausage, fruit bowl and yogurt, oatmeal, etc.

Morning: Check out of motel after breakfast and travel to Grand Canyon National Park. Learn about famous Oak Creek Canyon as you travel Hwy 89A, one of Arizona's most scenic highways, and up the hairpin switchbacks, in view of the San Francisco Peaks to the Grand Canyon's South Rim. Once at Grand Canyon National Park, enjoy sweeping views of the Canyon with glimpses of the Colorado River below and the North Rim across the Canyon. Your guide will point out significant canyon features and introduce you to the canyon's story -- geology, natural and human history. There will be time for hikes both along the rim or, for those who desire, a short hike into the canyon on the famed "Bright Angel Trail".

Lunch: Sack lunches on the South Rim of Grand Canyon.

Afternoon: Visit historic Grand Canyon Village and enjoy some free time to explore on your own. Don't forget to ask your program coordinator about the fountain in the Bright Angel Lodge where you can get ice cream! Depart South Rim in late afternoon for the trip along part of old Route 66 to Peach Springs on the Hualapai Indian Reservation. Make a quick stop in Williams, AZ, the last town along Old Route 66 to be bypassed by Interstate 40. Then make your way to Peach Springs on the Hualapai Reservation.

Dinner: Enjoy a dinner at the Hualapai Lodge restaurant.

Evening: Following dinner, gather with your coordinator for an orientation on the next day's raft adventure on the Colorado River.

River Trip through Grand Canyon/ Waterfall Hike/Helicopter Trip from River to Canyon Rim/Trip through Mojave Desert to Hualapai Lodge

Note: Climbing in and out of rafts requires some upper body strength and agility. Cold, but invigorating, drenching during rapids. Short hike -- less than 1/4 mile -- to waterfall over sometimes slippery rocks and through sand. Optional climb using ropes and ladders to another hidden waterfall.

Breakfast: Breakfast in the Hualapai Lodge dining room.

Morning: Depart lodge and travel down to the bottom of the Canyon on Diamond Creek Road, the only road to the bottom of the Canyon. Once at the beach, the Hualapai river guides give us a safety orientation and life vest fitting. Then we load the boats and head downstream on the Mighty Colorado! The "Diamond Creek Down" Colorado River trip is about 37 miles in length. The first 16 miles you will encounter about 10 whitewater rapids. Some of these are large (5, 6 and 7 's on a 1 to 10 scale). You will get wet! The air temperature in summer at the bottom of the canyon will likely be around 100 degrees so the splashing is welcome relief and keeps everyone cool. The rafts pull over at a couple of attractions (including the beautiful and hidden Travertine Falls where you'll have an opportunity to climb on the rocks and splash in the water) and at a lunch spot. After 16 miles the rapids flatten out, but the scenery remains "Grand" in all regards.

Lunch: Lunch on a Colorado River beach.

Afternoon: Continue down Colorado River after lunch to Quartermaster Landing (37 miles downriver from Diamond Creek). When you're called, get buckled into a helicopter for a short but spectacular ride from the river to the rim at Quartermaster Point at Grand Canyon West on the Hualapai Reservation. Don't forget your camera for this once in a lifetime experience! Travel via bus through the starkly beautiful Joshua Tree forest and basin and range topography of the Mohave Desert back to Hualapai Lodge after a fun-filled day. WIND AND SAFETY ADVISORY: PLEASE NOTE THE ABILITY TO FLY HELICOPTERS FROM THE COLORADO RIVER AT THE END OF THE RAFT TRIP IS DEPENDENT ON WIND AND/OR HEAT CONDITIONS ON THE RIM AND IN THE CANYON. ON EXTREMELY WINDY OR HOT DAYS, DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS, HELICOPTERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO FLY. ALTHOUGH THIS IS ALWAYS A POSSIBILITY, IT HAPPENS VERY INFREQUENTLY. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE RAFT TRIP IS EXTENDED ON THE RIVER TO A LOCATION WHERE BUSES ARE ABLE TO REACH THE PARTICIPANTS FOR TRANSPORT BACK TO THE HOTEL.

Dinner: Late dinner at the Hualapai Lodge dining room.

Evening: After dinner, spend a final night with your new friends and maybe do some packing!

Hualapai Culture, Songs and Dance/Program Farewells/Shuttles to Sedona and Phoenix

Breakfast: Breakfast in Hualapai Lodge dining room with farewells and program departure following morning presentation. Van Go shuttle passengers will depart for Phoenix airport at 10am., arriving there approximately 2:00 pm. Van Go, a commercial shuttle service, provides the quickest return to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. The NAU Road Scholar van will return to Sedona, arriving by approximately 1:00 pm. Note: if returning to Sedona with NAU transportation, participants will need to take another shuttle to return to Phoenix and may not arrive there before 4 or 5 pm, depending on connection with commercial shuttle departing from Sedona.

Morning: Enjoy a morning program on Hualapai culture/dancing before bidding farewell to your new friends.Van Go shuttle passengers will depart for the Phoenix airport immediately following the morning activities. NAU shuttle passengers will depart for Sedona immediately following morning activities.

Lunch: Sack lunch to go provided for those who request it.
