Equipment Requirements
A pair of binoculars with good light gathering capabilities (rain forest can be very dark) and wide angle lens (8X40 or 10X50 even better). Note: Pocket binoculars are not useful for bird watching in rain forest conditions. Optional items that can help enhance your birding experience: -A spotting scope -A tripod or single pole to help steady your camera/scope. -A water proof seal able sack/bag for sensitive equipment.

Arrive To:
Arrival to Cuiaba in the late evening. Transfer to hotel and check in. Please note that this is an International travel day. The arrival into Cuiaba is very late in the evening and there are no meals nor program activities scheduled on this day.

Dedicated trails designed to observe the various species of endemic & migrating birds at the various forest levels. Day Two: Saturday, May 11
- Transfer flight to Alta Floresta and Cristalino Jungle Lodge
Breakfast:
After breakfast at the hotel, checkout of your room, transfer to the airport in Cuiaba, and check-in to a short flight (1:30 Hrs) to Alta Floresta.
Lunch:
On arrival, you will be transferred to Hotel Floresta Amazonica, for lunch. After lunch transfer by motor vehicle then a boat ride to Cristalino Lodge. During the journey your local guide will be pointing out some wildlife, local ranches and talk about the economic activities of this area.
Afternoon:
You arrive mid-afternoon at the lodge and check-in to your room. After settling in and unpacking, meet your Group leader at a pre-arranged location for a welcome drink, information meeting and orientation introducing the staff, your local native guide and experts, the lodge grounds facilities and amenities, followed by a Lecture on "Birding in the Amazon" by a local biologist/ornithologist.

Dinner at the Lodge. During or after dinner planning meeting for tomorrow's activities

Day Three: Sunday, May 12
- "Taboca Trail" bamboo birds and Dr Haffer's and Kawali's Trails
Breakfast:
Breakfast at the Lodge. If departure is very early in the morning (before sunrise), an early morning coffee and a packed breakfast will be provided to be taken with you on the trail.
Morning:
Your local expert native guide leads a field visit/lecture hiking on "Taboca" Trail looking for birds on bamboo bushes such as "Xingu Antwren" Striated(Emilia's) Antbird, Dusky-tailed and Large-headed Flatbill and the endemic Cryptic Forest Falcon. Most of your expert native guides through out the program do not have full command of English, However, an expert translator will always accompany the group
Lunch:
Lunch provided by the Lodge.
Afternoon:
Mid afternoon take a guided field trip with your expert native guide on Dr. Haffer's trail where mixed species will be introduced . Then connect with the "Kawali's trail where Gould's Toucanet and Kawali's parrot can be seen.
Dinner:
Dinner at the Lodge.
Evening:
After dinner a meeting with your expert guides and leader to exchange the day experiences, review and plan tomorrows activities

- Sunrise at the 50 Meters Observation Tower. The Brazil nut Trail and...
Sunrise at the 50 Meters Observation Tower. The Brazil nut Trail and "Corredeira do Limao"
Breakfast:
Breakfast by the Lodge. Depending on your day activity and departure time, an early morning coffee and a packed breakfast will be provided to be taken with you on the trail.
Morning:
Depart before daylight. walk to the 50 meters high observation tower to watch the sunrise from above the tree canopies. White Bellied, Red-fan, White-Necked Puffbird, Pompadour Cotinga, and various species of Toucan can be seen from this advantage point.
Lunch:
Lunch provided by the Lodge on site or packed for your trail
Afternoon:
After lunch and some rest take a boat trip up river to hike on the "Brazil Nut Trail" with its gigantic trees and interesting birds such as Musician Wren. On the return journeys by boat we pass through "Corredeira do Limao" where hundreds of Painted Parakeets can be seen. We close the day navigating down river observing the sunset over the Amazon, and the wildlife activity.

Day Five: Tuesday, May 14
- "Sierra" Trail and low forest Birds, the "Caja" Trail.
Breakfast:
An opportunity for early exploration on your own on the grounds before daylight breaks. Breakfast by the Lodge. Depending on your day activity and departure time, an early morning coffee and a packed breakfast will be provided to be taken with you on the trail.
Morning:
Taking a boat ride to explore the "sierra" Trail, with a low , drier and deciduous type forest. Look for Natterer's Slaty Antshrike, Brown-Banded Puffbird, Xenopsaris and Rufous Casionis.
Lunch:
Lunch provided by the Lodge on site or packed for your trail
Afternoon:
This afternoon explore the "Caja" Trail closer to the Lodge, looking for the Flame-Crested Manakin. Then some free time to explore on your own the birds and wildlife on the Lodge grounds.

After dinner a meeting with your expert guides and leader to exchange the day experiences, review and plan tomorrows activities

Day Six: Wednesday, May 15
- "Teles" River and Evening expedition
Breakfast:
Explore the grounds on your own before Breakfast by the Lodge. Depending on your day activity and departure time, an early morning coffee and a packed breakfast will be provided to be taken with you on the trail.
Morning:
An early walk along the "Teles" River trail looking for Noble Antthrush, Snow-Capped Manakin and Dark-Winged Trumpeter.
Lunch:
Lunch provided by the Lodge on site or packed for your trail
Afternoon:
This afternoon continue on the river and explore the "Teles Pires" island as your expert local guide will look for spots to observe parakeets, parrots, macaws and nesting wood stocks.
Dinner:
Dinner at the Lodge
Evening:
After dinner a short meeting with your expert guides and leader to exchange the day experiences, review and plan tomorrows activities. Then an opportunity to watch the Sunset and explore the night birds and wildlife.

The Lodge has an open reception lounge with hammocks, a refectory/dinning room, a reading/meeting & games rooms. A sun deck with sun beds and parasols for river swimming. Two high altitude observation towers.

Day Seven: Thursday, May 16
- "Cacao" & Butterfly Trails . Sunset from the Observation Tower
Breakfast:
Breakfast by the Lodge. Depending on your day activity and departure time, an early morning coffee and a packed breakfast will be provided to be taken with you on the trail.
Morning:
This morning cross the river by boat or canoes where your expert native guide will introduce the "Cacao" Trail and help you spot Antswarms and attendant Antbirds, amongst others.
Lunch:
Lunch provided by the Lodge on site or packed for your trail
Afternoon:
This afternoon your local expert guide will introduce the "Butterfly" Trail where several species of Hummers and White-Lipped Pecary Wallow can be seen. An opportunity to climb the 50 meters observation tower to enjoy the sunset and spot some tree top birding.

After dinner a meeting with your expert guides and leader to exchange the day experiences, review and plan tomorrows activities

Day Eight: Friday, May 17
- The "Summit" Trail and a special open fire Farewell dinner
Breakfast:
Breakfast by the Lodge. Depending on your day activity and departure time, an early morning coffee and a packed breakfast will be provided to be taken with you on the trail.
Morning:
Early morning hike in the "Summit" Trail with beautiful views over the landscape. The forest understory is rich and it is possible to observe mixed species of feeding flocks, led by Cinereous Antshrikes and White-Winged Shrike-Tanagers.
Lunch:
Lunch provided by the Lodge on site or packed for your trail
Afternoon:
This afternoon your expert guide will walk towards the "Saleiro" a natural salt-lick where Lawrence's Thrush and Curved-Billed Scythebill may be seen.
Dinner:
Tonight a Farewell dinner cooked on an open fire under the stars (weather permitting)

- "Ficus" Trail - Transfer to Alta FLoresta
Breakfast:
Breakfast by the Lodge. Depending on your day activity and departure time, an early morning coffee and a packed breakfast will be provided to be taken with you on the trail.
Morning:
Free morning to rest and pack, with the option of an early morning hike with your expert native guide to enjoy one more hike on the "Ficus" trail.Checkout of the Lodge mid-morning for your transfer to Alta Floresta. You arrive just before lunch
Lunch:
Lunch at the Hotel in Alta Floresta
Afternoon:
This afternoon an opportunity to visit a private orchid garden or a local "Brazil Nut" processing plant depending on availability. You may also take the opportunity to explore on your own the extensive hotel grounds an its private nature reserve, where you might spot an Harpy eagle nest.

This morning an opportunity to put your experience to test by exploring on your own the hotel extensive private reserve, where various species can be found including a Harpy Eagle nest where the resident couple might be spotted. Checkout of your room by 11:00 AM

Early lunch at the hotel
Afternoon:
After lunch transfer to Alta Floresta Airport, and check-in to your flight to Cuiaba. where your program ends. On arrival at Cuiaba, your Group Leader will assist your check-in to your international return flight home.
