- Richmond History Center/Coach Transfer to DC/NAACP Presentation

Field trip to Richmond History Center. With museum staff, trace the lives and efforts to gain equality of African Americans in the former Confederate capital. Investigate work, leisure, education, and legal initiatives from the Civil War through the election of L. Douglas Wilder, the first African American governor in any state.

Lunch at the Museum
Afternoon:
Depart the museum and take a Field Trip to explore significant sites on the Road to Equality. including: the Maggie Walker House, Lumpkins Jail, Jackson Ward, the Black History Museum, and Capital Square. Then head towards Washington DC.

Visit the new Martin Luther King Memorial, located just off the National Mall, near the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial. Afterwards, take a coach tour of African American sites in Washington, to include Georgetown, the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, and the locations of homes of Alfred Pope, Emma Brown, John Fleet, and Duke Ellington.

Fieldtrip to Howard University. Hear a presentation about Howard and the history of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Afterwards, drive through the neighborhood of LeDroit Park, home to leading African American families in the 1890s and early 20th century. Afterwards, enjoy a free Afternoon and evening. Participants may be dropped at the new African American Civil War Museum…or at another museum or the hotel.
