Field trip to the Visitors Center Museum and Cyclorama; classroom discussion about the first day of the battle; field trip to battlefield

Breakfast: Full breakfast buffet in the hotel

Morning: This morning we'll begin with a field trip to the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitors Center and Museum. There you will watch the short film "A New Birth Of Freedom" narrated by Morgan Freeman, followed by a viewing of the restored cyclorama painting (one of only three left in the U.S.) which is a depiction of the Battle of Gettysburg. This will give you a great overview and understanding of the Civil War and the Battle of Gettysburg. Visit the museum gallery at your leisure and have a chance to see an extensive collection of artifacts and relics that were found on the battlefield of Gettysburg and other prominent battlefields of the Civil War. Browse the book store and gift shop with an outstanding collection of books on the Civil War and the battle of Gettysburg.

Lunch: In the hotel

Afternoon: This afternoon, take part in a classroom session about the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg followed by a field trip to the sites of the first day's battle including McPherson Ridge, Oak Ridge, The Eternal Light Peace Memorial and Barlow's Knoll.

Evening: This evening we'll enjoy part one of the movie "Gettysburg."

Visit to the Seminary Ridge Museum housed in the iconic Schmucker Hall; visit to Little Round Top; walk through the Soldiers' National Cemetery

Breakfast: Full Breakfast Buffet in the hotel

Morning: This morning we'll visit the Seminary Ridge Museum - a state of the art museum that interprets our country's greatest martial, compassionate, and spiritual dramas in the place that saw them all in 1863. Through a unified interpretive exhibit spread over four floors,the museum presents the dramatic first hours of the battle on July 1st, dramatically portrays the building as a Field Hospital, and hosts the stories of the tension of churches and people as well as the rights of African Americans in the years leading up to the Civil War.

Lunch: In the hotel

Afternoon: This afternoon we'll examine the second day of fighting in Gettysburg followed by a field trip to the battlefield to visit West Confederate Avenue, featuring monuments dedicated to the Southern States, as well as Little Round Top, Devil's Den, and the Wheat Field. The day will end with a walking tour of the Cemetery Hill, including the Soldiers' National Cemetery.

Gain an appreciation of the back story of the 2,400 civilians of Gettysburg during the siege

Breakfast: Full breakfast buffet in the hotel

Morning: This morning we'll take a field trip to visit the restored Shriver House to see and hear the experiences of a local Gettysburg family during the siege.

Lunch: In the hotel

Afternoon: After lunch we'll attend two lectures led by local historians on related Battle topics.

Dinner: At the Visitor Center. We will be treated to a behind the scenes program of the historic Gettysburg Cyclorama. This 42 feet high and 377 feet around painting was recently painstakingly conserved by a team of 20 trained conservators for five years. A private viewing of the painting will also take place.

Attend two lectures led by local historians on related battle topics; free time to explore on your own; evening social, farewell dinner, and a musical presentation by folk musician Tom Jolin.

Breakfast: Full breakfast buffet in the hotel

Morning: This morning we'll examine and discuss topics in a lecture setting led by local historians.

Lunch: Opportunity to explore local fare on your own. Many restaurants located in historic buildings with special features. Lists of places to eat are available to participants.

Afternoon: This afternoon enjoy some free time to explore the town of Gettysburg and the Military National Park.

Dinner: Social and special farewell dinner.

Evening: Meet a local renowned folk musician while he plays Civil War era music. He will discuss his handmade hammer dulcimer, the banjo, accordion and harmonica as he plays his musical selections.

Day Six: Friday, April 17 - Day Three of the Battle - Picketts Charge
Breakfast: Full breakfast buffet in the hotel - The Hotel asks that you check out before the tour. Luggage can be kept in the classroom or behind the Front Desk.

Morning: This morning we'll conclude our program with a lecture on the third day of fighting at Gettysburg. Following our classroom discussion, we'll venture out to visit the day's corresponding sites on the Battlefield featuring the High Water Mark - the Union Line of Pickett's Charge.

Lunch: Following our field trip we'll return to the hotel for a box lunch to take on your way or enjoy in the hotel dining room before you depart.

YWCA Gettysburg & Adams CountyVisit our local YWCA located just 1 mile from the Gettysburg Hotel at 909 Fairfield Road (Rte 116). This family recreation facility offers a swimming pool and a spacious 12-person whirlpool-there is no towel service so be sure to bring your own towels. You may swim during lap lane/open swim or join an aquatics fitness class- Please check schedule in your hotel classroom for times. Also available is the weight and fitness room, 2 basketball and 2 racquetball courts for your enjoyment. Hours of operation are: Monday thru Friday 4:30 a.m.-10 p.m. (pool opens at 6a.m.). Adams County Historical SocietyLocated in the Samuel Schmucker Hall on the campus of the Lutheran Theological Seminary. It has a museum, library, archives and meeting rooms of the society. Between archives, photographs, books, and objects the Adams County Historical Society estimates that it has over 1,000,000 items in the collection. Hours of operation are: Wednesday thru Saturday 9a.m. to Noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Museum is open by appointment only. The David Wills HouseHome of attorney David Wills and where President Lincoln spent the night before delivering his famous Gettysburg Address. The museum includes seven galleries, including the restored office where David Wills coordinated post-battle recovery efforts and the famous Lincoln bedroom where the President finished revising the Gettysburg Address.
