Day Two: Sunday, July 26 - Ferry to San Juan Island / Check In to San Juan I...
Ferry to San Juan Island / Check In to San Juan Island Hotel / Presentation on Contemporary Life In the Island

Breakfast: Extensive breakfast buffet served in hotel Conference/Breakfast Room featuring, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, a variety of fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, breakfast breads/toast, juices and coffee.

Morning: On our way to San Juan Island, we’ll visit the artfully designed Hibulb Cultural Center. The Hibulb Cultural Center and natural History Preserve has over 23, 000 square feet of exhibits and classrooms and 50 acres of natural history preserve that tell the store of the “salmon people,” the Tulalip Nation. The artifacts, carvings, art and interactive displays weave insight and understanding to the land, the people, and the culture of the many Northwest Tribal ancestors.

Lunch: We’ll have lunch in the fishing Port of Anacortes, WA. Croatian families settled in the Anacortes area beginning in the 1870’s and brought their centuries-old traditions of sailing and fishing. With our Northwest-style lunch at the Croatian Cultural Center, we’ll experience first-hand this warm, welcoming family community.

Afternoon: We'll board the WA State ferry in Anacortes, WA - on our way to Friday Harbor. Enjoy the view from the inside passenger cabins or from the outside decks as we take our 1.5 hour journey through the archipelago to Friday Harbor.

Dinner: Our dinners are served buffet style so that you choose what works for you. Tonight’s dinner features NW green salad, grilled chicken, steamed veggies, and red potatoes or rice – topped off with coffee, tea, iced tea, water and dessert of the day.

Evening: Presentation "Reflections on San Juan Islands" offers an insider’s look at contemporary life in the Islands.

Day Three: Monday, July 27 - San Juan Island Excursion: Tip-Tip Explorations
Breakfast: Continental Breakfast Buffet served by our private caterer in Conference Dining Room featuring: a variety of fresh fruites, assorted hot/cold cereals, assorted brekfast breads (toast, English muffin, bagel, etc) cottage cheese, boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juice.

Morning: Morning presentation uncovers the authentic Coast Salish Native history with particular note of Islands rich archaeological heritage. Following our presentation, we will depart for small group walking field trips to the San Juan Island Historical Museum and the Whale Museum, the nation's first museum dedicated to whale's living in the wild. Docent guided expert program at both museums.

Lunch: Have lunch the way you like it! Lunch will be served buffet style and features a soup of the day with salad bar (including green leaf / spinach salad, a variety of fresh raw veggies, potato salad, three bean salad, and more) - topped off with coffee, tea, iced tea, and dessert of the day.

Afternoon: Explore San Juan Island from tip to tip, starting at the Historic National Parks (American Camp and British Camp). At our final destination at the northern tip of the island, you'll have the choice to visit either the historic Roche Harbor village (with its lovely marina and English gardens) or visit the Westcott Bay Sculpture Park (where you can view hundreds of outdoor sculptures thoughtfully placed amidst acres of quiet forests, wetlands, and meadows.

Dinner: Our dinners are served buffet style so that you choose what works for you. Tonight’s dinner features NW green salad, baked salmon/fish (as locally available by season), rice , and steamed veggies– topped off with coffee, tea, iced tea, water and dessert of the day.

Evening: Evening presentation details the local arts community and uncovers how the beauty and community combine to form a vibrant arts community. Meet a local guest artist!

Day Four: Tuesday, July 28 - Orcas Island - "Creative Spirit of the Emerald Is...
Orcas Island - "Creative Spirit of the Emerald Isle" as seen from prolific art collections to salmon restoration efforts.

Breakfast: Continental Breakfast Buffet served by our private caterer in Conference Dining Room featuring: a variety of fresh fruites, assorted hot/cold cereals, assorted brekfast breads (toast, English muffin, bagel, etc) cottage cheese, boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juice. Breakfast is early on this day so that we may catch the inter-island ferry.

Morning: Board the inter-island ferry for the scenic cruise to Orcas Island. Explore the creative culture of Orcas with a field trip to private art collection showcasing works created in the San Juan's, personally guided by the owner/curator. This private residence includes a whimsical underground grotto, undersea oracle and many works commissioned as part of the Museum's architecture. Our exploration of Orcas Island also includes a visit to Moran State Park. Ancient cedars, fresh-water lakes, and fern-blanketed trails set the perfect backdrop as we learn about the history; ecology; and preservation efforts of this wonderful park.

Lunch: Since we'll be out exploring, we'll enjoy a picnic/bag lunch today. Our caterer will provide whole fresh fruit, chips, bottled water, and a chef's choice fresh bakery treat for everyone. Each member of the group will build their own sandwich to their liking - choosing from an assortment of meats, cheese, breads, and condiments.

Afternoon: Field trip continues to historic farmstead, now a showcase Chinook Salmon enhancement facility seen as a benchmark for natural rearing methods in the Northwest. Cruise through the Islands aboard the ferry in the late afternoon and return to Friday Harbor, San Juan Island in time for dinner.

Dinner: Dinner on own - to sample the local fare!

Evening: Enjoy a free evening to stroll the seaside town of Friday Harbor.

Morning: A Wildlife Rehabilitation expert begins our morning with an informative presentation about the wildlife that call the San Juan Islands home. A field trip follows - to the Island's southern tip explores San Juan Island Lavender Farm.

Lunch: Since we'll be out exploring, we'll enjoy a picnic/bag lunch today. Our caterer will provide whole fresh fruit, chips, bottled water, and a chef's choice fresh bakery treat for everyone. Each member of the group will build their own sandwich to their liking - choosing from an assortment of meats, cheese, breads, and condiments

Afternoon: Our field trip continues to the picturesque Limekiln Lighthouse, now an Orca whale observation outpost. Early afternoon return to hotel, where we will depart for small group walking field trips to the San Juan Island Historical Museum and the Whale Museum, the nation's first museum dedicated to whale's living in the wild. Docent guided expert program at both museums. Free time in Friday Harbor follows museum explorations.

Dinner: Our dinners are served buffet style so that you choose what works for you. Tonight's dinner features NW green salad, home-made meatloaf, steamed veggies, and one of the following: rice, potatoes, pasta- topped off with coffe, tea, iced tea, water, and dessert of the day.

Lopez Island - Sustainable farming and affordable housing projects on "the friendly isle."

Breakfast: Continental Breakfast Buffet served by our private caterer in Conference Dining Room featuring: a variety of fresh fruites, assorted hot/cold cereals, assorted brekfast breads (toast, English muffin, bagel, etc) cottage cheese, boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juice. Breakfast is early on this day so that we may catch the inter-island ferry.

Morning: Hop aboard the WA State ferry and sail to Lopez Island. In the lovingly restored 1917 Port Stanley School house, discuss a year in the life of a Lopez Island gentlemen farmer. Learn about his innovative successful formula for small grass-fed sheep farming and idyllic lifestyle.

Lunch: Picnic Lunch at the beautifully restored historic Port Stanley School House. Our caterer will provide whole fresh fruit, chips, bottled water, and a chef's choice fresh bakery treat for everyone. Each member of the group will build their own sandwich to their liking - choosing from an assortment of meats, cheese, breads, and condiments.

Afternoon: After a picnic lunch at the schoolhouse, hear first-hand about an acclaimed local organization dedicated to building a diverse, sustainable Lopez Island community through award-winning environmentally designed affordable housing, sustainable agriculture, and other dynamic and successful rural development programs. Then, we're off to explore the island and the Watmough Bay Preserve. This local treasure represents a consortium of land preservation efforts that reign throughout all of the San Juan Islands. At Watmough, we’ll relish the spectacular views, and savor our immersion into nature as we gain insight to the fragile ecosystems of the land; and the efforts that made it a public place for all to enjoy. Field trip continues to tiny Lopez Village to uncover its keenly designed community layout. Take a break from your study and mingle with the friendly locals as you stroll the village during some relaxed open time. Return to San Juan Island via ferry in the late afternoon.

Dinner: Our dinners are served buffet style so that you choose what works for you. Tonight's dinner features NW green salad, prawns, and scallops (in sun-dried tomato pesto), penne pasta and steamed veggies - topped off with coffee, tea, iced tea, water, and dessert of the day.

Evening: As our program winds to a close, we celebrate the final evening with a farewell musical performance.

Day Seven: Friday, July 31 - Farewell and Departure
Breakfast: In Conference Dining Room featuring healthy & delicious home-style meals served buffet-style. Meals are prepared by our private caterer and proudly served with enthusiasm!

Morning: Depart Friday Harbor, San Juan Island via the Washington State ferry and chartered motor coach. Program concludes in Seattle with drop off at SeaTac International airport(approximately 12:30pm) or the Hilton Garden Inn Seattle/Renton (approximately 1:00) on final day of the program. We recommend scheduling outbound flights after 2:30 pm.
