Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini. They're not a New York law firm. They're the Mount Rushmore of Italian Opera immortality, the 19th Century's explosion of musical genius that established Italian Opera as the most popular and enduring genre in the pantheon. Of the 10 most performed operas worldwide in 2012, 6 were Italian, with Puccini's La Boheme, Tosca and Madame Butterfly holding 3 of the top 6 slots. Verdi's La Traviata was #1 - a spot often held by La Boheme - with Verdi's Rigoletto and Rossini's Barber of Seville rounding out the Italian contribution (Bizet's Carmen and three of Mozart's marvels - Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, and Marriage of Figaro completed the list.) James Dalessandro, author of the best selling 1906: A Novel and documentary film maker of The Damnedest, Finest Ruins - with the digitally restored voice of Enrico Caruso - is the event's speaker. Mr. Dalessandro, who sports dual American-Italian citizenship and is fluent in the language, proffers a fun and engaging sampling of photos, musical clips and historical insights into the Bel Canto and Verismo. He will take you through the great composers and the great voices, with particular emphasis on his favorite, Enrico Caruso, plus the legendary Maria Callas.Dinner: Enjoy a dinner buffet in the hotel which includes complimentary coffee and hot tea.Evening: The Best of Italian Opera, Part 2Lodging: Hilton SFO BayfrontMeals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
