Description: The Villa Montparnasse is a quaint hotel on the left bank of the Seine. The colonial-style residence is located in the 19th century intellectual elite neighborhood opposite the famed Montparnasse Cemetery and next to the apartment where Simone de Beauvoir lived. This hotel is both charming and comfortable and is one block from a pedestrian street featuring restaurants and shops. It is within walking distance of two different metro lines both with direct access to the main monuments of Paris.

Day Two: Monday, September 15 - Group Arrival and Welcome
Arrive To: After your arrival at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, transfer by coach to the Paris hotel.

Afternoon: Check-in at the hotel and have some time to freshen up and relax before meeting for a welcome orientation and program briefing. We will gather in our private meeting room where the Group Leader will greet you with a warm welcome and introduce everyone. We will review the up-to-date daily schedule and any changes, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer any questions you may have. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Morning: Accompanied by an expert lecturer and Paris resident, explore Medieval Paris and L'île de la Cité on a walking tour. L'île de la Cité is the heart of Paris and the location where the city was founded. It is dominated by the Gothic cathedral, Notre Dame de Paris.

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: We will transfer to board the MS Botticelli. You will have some time to settle and to relax before the evening welcome orientation.

Dinner: On board the MS Botticelli.

Day Four: Wednesday, September 17 - The Louvre and the Liberation of Paris
Note: Today's activities include use of the Paris metro as well as lengthy periods of walking. Please wear comfy shoes.

Breakfast: On board the MS Botticelli.

Morning: There will be a lecture titled, "The Occupation and Liberation of Paris." With your local expert guide, discover areas of Paris under German occupation and discuss the resistance and liberation. Begin at the Hotel Meurice, once the German Headquarters, and end at the statue of Charles de Gaulle on the Champs Elysées.

Lunch: On board the MS Botticelli.

Afternoon: Led by your group leader, enjoy a visit to the Louvre, where you will have time for self-exploration. Investigate the wing or collection of masterpieces that most peaks your interest.

Day Six: Friday, September 19 - Historic Rouen
Breakfast: On board the MS Botticelli.

Morning: There will be an onboard lecture titled, "The Normans."

Lunch: On board the MS Botticelli.

Afternoon: Explore historic Rouen, including its magnificent cathedral where Monet studied and painted the effects of changing light, and its famous half-timbered houses. Your expert guide will walk you through this unique city's history, also taking time to pause at the site of the burning of Joan of Arc. Those who wish can join the study leader for a guided exploration of the Musée des Beaux Arts in Rouen.

Day Seven: Saturday, September 20 - Caudebec and the Abbey of Saint Wandrille
Breakfast: On board the MS Botticelli.

Morning: An onboard lecture, led by your study leader, will discuss the story of the Bayeux Tapestry.

Lunch: On board the MS Botticelli.

Afternoon: A field trip will take you a short distance from Caudebec to Fontenelle Abbey, or the Abbey of St Wandrille. Your local guide will take you through the monastery, founded in the first century by Wandregisel or Saint Wandrille. Although much of the abbey has been rebuilt, the chapel of St-Saturnin remains standing on the hillside overlooking the abbey and is one of the oldest ecclesiastical structures still in existence. After exploring the abbey, you will have the option of attending mass with the Benedictine monks as they sing Gregorian chants or returning to Caudebec for independent exploration.

Breakfast: On board the MS Botticelli.

Morning: Enjoy unique architecture during a tour of historic Honfleur. Learn why this city has one of the few remaining wooden churches and Honfleur's important role in the settlement of new France.

Lunch: On board the MS Botticelli.

Afternoon: Enjoy some free time or take a trip to the Eugène Boudin museum, which is named after Honfleur's most famous painter and contains works by Boudin himself, as well as other great impressionists such as: Dubourg, Monet, and Jongkind. Located in a 19th century chapel and two modern extensions, the museum houses some 1,200 square meters of permanent exhibitions in nine rooms.

Morning: Your WWII expert will lead you to Pegasus Bridge and then along the British and Canadian sector of the D-Day operation. Learn the importance and creation of the "Mulberry Harbors" and the stubborn German Battery at Longues-sur-Mer.

Afternoon: Enjoy an independent discovery of the legendary tapestry that is part of UNESCO's "Memorial of the World" registry. Take some time to linger over each of the 58 scenes which depict in exquisite detail the Norman invasion of England.

Day Eleven: Wednesday, September 24 - Omaha Beach / The American Cemetery / Pointe du H...
Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We will depart by coach for Omaha Beach. There will be an on-site lecture titled, "The Landing at Omaha." You will learn about the ferocity of this battle and look at the landing from a number of perspectives.

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: We will begin with a wreath laying ceremony at the U.S. Normandy American Military Cemetery and afterward continue onto Pointe du Hoc to learn about the Ranger Assault. We will finish the day with a tasting of the region's renowned apple brandy at the château d'Englesqueville, where the first U.S. monument honoring WWII soldiers was built.

Day Twelve: Thursday, September 25 - Utah Beach / Sainte-Mère-Église / The Battle of t...
Breakfast: Breakfast buffet at hotel.

Morning: We will travel to Saint-Lô to explore the hedgerows, which proved to be a very unique and difficult obstacle for American soldiers. There will be an on-site lecture titled, "The Battle of the Hedgerows."

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Your WWII expert will return to lead an on-site discussion of the operations in Sainte-Mère-Église and Utah Beach. Sainte-Mère-Église was at the center of the U.S. paratrooper landing and is known for the U.S. soldier whose parachute got stuck on the church's steeple, leaving him stranded overnight.

Dinner: On your own to explore local cuisine.
