Morning: The ship docks in Mohacs. We enjoy an excursion by coach to the old city of Pecs, the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2010. In Pecs, we visit the Cella Septichora, the early Christian necropolis of Pecs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lunch: Lunch on board.

Afternoon: We travel by coach to Villany for a wine tasting. In the late afternoon we have some free time in Mohacs.

Dinner: Dinner on board.

Evening: We sail in the direction of Vukovar, Croatia.

Afternoon: Take in a lecture about Yugoslavia, "The Yugoslav Puzzle." Free time to explore the Serbian capital of Belgrade on your own.

Morning: Today we enjoy a full day of cruising through one of Europe’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders, the Iron Gates. Here the Danube narrows as it winds through a range of magnificent gorges between the southern Carpathian Mountains and the northwestern foothills of the Balkan Mountains, forming the natural border between Serbia and Romania. Today’s passage will be an unforgettable highlight of your adventure.

Afternoon: Having sailed past the most picturesque sights, you can attend our Open University session and take in a lecture about the 20th century history of Central Europe.

Morning: Field trip by coach to Belogradchik, a 6th century fortress located in a stunning landscape of unusual rock formations. The fortress became one of the most important strongholds in the region, second only to the tsar's capital fortress, Baba Vida, which we visit on our way back to Vidin.

Lunch: Lunch on board.

Afternoon: This afternoon the ship leaves Vidin, Bulgaria and sails toward Giurgiu, Romania. Join our Open University session about the European Union.

Dinner: Dinner on board.

Morning: This morning we dock in Giurgiu where we take a coach to Bucharest, Romania for a full day field trip. We will pass the Arch of Triumph, Soseaua Kiseleff, the Atheneum, the library, and then visit the Bucharest Open Air Village Museum to see a large variety of housing from Romania.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant with live music.

Afternoon: This afternoon we visit the Parliament Palace, the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon.

Dinner: Dinner on board.

Evening: Enjoy the last evening of sailing as we head to our last port of call on the other side of the river in Bulgaria.

Afternoon: We continue by bus to Plovdiv, one of the oldest cities in the world, with a history that spans 6000 years. Here we will check in at our hotel and have a guided excursion of the Old Town.

Morning: Transfer by coach from Plovdiv to Edirne, the second capital of the Ottoman Empire in the 14th century and a city with many monuments, mosques, and caravan sarays all from 14th - 16th century. The most beautiful is the Selimiye Mosque built by the great architect Sinan. Transfer from our Bulgarian bus to our Turkish bus.

Lunch: Lunch at a local restaurant in Edirne.

Afternoon: Our local Turkish expert will join us for the rest of the program and will present a lecture on Turkey and Istanbul during the afternoon coach transfer to Istanbul. Arrival in Istanbul. Check into our hotel.

Morning: Explore the Topkapi Palace and the Harem. The Topkapi Palace was the seat of the Ottoman Sultans for 400 years and a great testimony to the wealth and power of the Ottoman Empire. Enjoy a guided field trip in Istanbul to experience such sights the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Cisterns built to store water in 6th century. Continue on to the Hippodrome, the civic center of ancient Constantinople, where chariot races were run between the four teams of Blues, Greens, Whites, and Reds.

Morning: Visit the Chora Church/Kariye Museum to witness its exquisite mosaics and frescoes from the 14th century, a period of Byzantine reawakening in arts. Later, we embark on a private cruise on the Bosphorus to explore the stunning palaces, mansions, and fortresses dotted along the Asian and European shores of this marvelous strait.

Lunch: Explore local fare on your own.

Afternoon: Continue the day with a visit to the Grand Bazaar to discover its maze-like streets and alleys and 4,000 shops! Explore the Spice Bazaar, where exotic spices were sold for 300 years.

Dinner: Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant.
